The presence of noise in speech signals degrades the performance of recognition systems in which there are mismatches between the training and test environments. To make a speech recognizer robust, it is necessary to compensate these mismatches. In this paper, we studied about an improvement of stochastic feature extraction based on band-SNR for robust speech recognition. At first, we proposed a modified version of the multi-band spectral subtraction (MSS) method which adjusts the subtraction level of noise spectrum according to band-SNR. In the proposed method referred as M-MSS, a noise normalization factor was newly introduced to finely control the over-estimation factor depending on the band-SNR. Also, we modified the architecture of the stochastic feature extraction (SFE) method. We could get a better performance when the spectral subtraction was applied in the power spectrum domain than in the mel-scale domain. This method is denoted as M-SFE. Last, we applied the M-MSS method to the modified stochastic feature extraction structure, which is denoted as the MMSS-MSFE method. The proposed methods were evaluated on isolated word recognition under various noise environments. The average error rates of the M-MSS, M-SFE, and MMSS-MSFE methods over the ordinary spectral subtraction (SS) method were reduced by 18.6%, 15.1%, and 33.9%, respectively. From these results, we can conclude that the proposed methods provide good candidates for robust feature extraction in the noisy speech recognition.
The purpose of this study is to prove the efficacy of the Kaltenborn-Evjenth Orthopedic Manipulative Therapy and the Conventional Physical Therapy that influence changes in pain and range of motion when those therapies are applied to patients with temporomandibular pint movement restriction. The subjects of the study were 30 randomly selected patients who had been diagnosed with temporomandibular pint movement restriction and had endured pain for more than two weeks. These patients had visited one of three hospitals in Pyongchon 00 Hospital. The subjects were divided into two groups with 15 patients each. The Kaltenborn-Evjenth Orthopedic Manipulative Therapy was applied to one group and the Conventional Physical Therapy was applied to the other group, once a day for three days. Then, the pain perception degree was measured by using the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and a digital device(Absolute Digimatic) measured the range of motion for each group. The average and standard errors were calculated for each measured items and a paired t-test was used for identifying significance in the differences in the pain perception degree and the range of motion between the two groups according to therapy. The significant level was set as ${\alpha}=0.05$. The changes in the pain perception degree were statistically significant in both groups; however, the group that received Kaltenborn-Evjenth Orthopedic Manipulative Therapy(KE-Group) showed more significant changes in a decrease in the pain perception degree than did the group that received the Conventional Physical Therapy(CPT-Group). Both groups showed significant results regarding changes in the range of motion: however, the KE-Group showed more of a significant difference in the average of the range of motion than did the CPT-Group(p<0.001). Comparing the changes in the range of motion between the two groups, the KE-Group showed a significant result which means that the KE-Group had a higher therapy effect than did the CPT-Group(p<0.05). Based on the results of this study, we found that the Kaltenborn-Evjenth Orthopedic Manipulative Therapy decreased pain and increased the range of motion. With such findings, we expect that the Kartenborn-Evjenth Orthopedic Manipulative Therapy can be used as an effective treatment method for patients with tempomrnandibular pint movement restriction and that the treatment period can be reduced with this therapy as well.

Nitrate is one of common contaminants frequently found in the bank filtrate. Biological autotrophic denitrification into permeable reactive barrier(PRB) system to reduce nitrate concentration in bank filtrate was implanted. The objectives of research are to investigate effect of inoculation, to evaluate alternative alkalinity sources, and to determine effect of hydraulic characteristics, such as retention time, flow rate on the performance of semi-pilot PRB system. Semi-pilot scale biological PRB system was installed using elemental sulfur and limestone/oyster shell as reactive materials near Nakdong River in Kyoungnam province, Korea. Nitrate concentration in bank filtrate was reduced by indigenous microorganisms in oyster shell as welt as by inoculating microorganisms isolated from the sludge of an anaerobic digester in a wastewater treatment plant. Oyster shell as well as limestone can be used as an alkalinity source. However, oyster shell resulted in suspended solids of effluent. As the flow rate in the system increased from 66 to 132 mL/min and accordingly the residence time decreased from 15 to 7.5 hours, nitrate concentration in effluent increased and nitrate removal efficiencies decreased from 75 to 58% at the fixed thickness of 80 cm of PRB.

Objectives : To report the clinical application and safety of Traditional Korean Medical treatment for patients with low back pain during pregnancy. Methods : Three patients who suffered from low back pain during pregnancy were treated with acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, moxibustion, and herbal medicine for 12 to 21 days. Numeric rating scale (NRS) of low back pain and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) were checked to measure the outcome. A liver function and renal function test was carried out to identify any drug-induced liver or renal injury, and any adverse events were monitored thoroughly until delivery. Results : Low back pain reduced on NRS in all cases, and no serious adverse effects were found in the patients or infants. Conclusion : This study suggests that Traditional Korean Medical treatment is a candidate therapy for relieving low back pain during pregnancy, and also is safe for both patients and infants.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a topical 0.2% hyaluronic acid (HA) preparation in the management of wound after removal of arch bar for facial bone fracture and a suture site after orthognatic, oral cancer or oral surgery. Forty patients participated in a randomized, placebo controlled, double-blind trial to evaluate the efficacy of the topical HA and preparation. HA topically applied to the wound after removal of arch bar or stitch out, 3 times a day for 4 weeks. Evaluation is performed once a week for 4 weeks. For subjective evaluation, relative pain reduction in visual analog scale (VAS) and existence of heat sensation was accessed. For objective evaluation, gross evaluation, papilla index, existence of wound dehiscence, redness and swelling was checked. The same evaluation was performed in each arch bar group and suture group. For whole subject, 0.2% HA group resulted higher reduction than placebo group in pain of site in first week with significancy. Same findings were seen other weeks but there was no significancy. 0.2% HA group had better result than placebo in objective evaluation (papilla index, wound dehiscence, redness and swelling), but in gross evaluation placebo had better result than 0.2% HA group with no significancy. Subject was divided into suture group and arch bar group. Same aspect was seen, but only suture group had significancy not arch bar group in pain reduction score. 0.2% HA group resulted higher reduction than placebo group in pain of site in first week with significancy, especially in suture group. It reveals topical application of HA in wound especially suture site reduced pain in early stage. And 0.2% HA group had better result than placebo in papilla index, redness and swelling with no statistical significancy. In conclusion, HA has effect of pain reduction and healing promotion in the mucosal wound after oral surgery.

In this study, to estimate the transforming (runoff and leachate) rate of the organic fertilizer made of livestock resources to farm land, laboratory scale test was conducted and the results were obtained as follows: The runoff volume from farm land showed the tendency of increase according to the increase of rainfall intensity. The most rainfall leachated into the underground at the rainfall intensity of 20mm/hr, and rainfall of 5L or less leachated at the rainfall intensity of > 32.4 mm/hr. This shows that surface runoff largely depends on the rainfall intensity when soil characteristic and hardness are similar in each site. When liquid compost was fertilized, the surface runoff was similar with the results from the reactor fertilized by compost, and leachate flow was found to be lower than compost. The runoff ratio of contaminant parameters from farm land were BOD 0.00003,, $COD_{cr}$ 0.00006, TN 0.00056, TP 0.00011, TOC 0.00005, Especially, the runoff ratio of TN showed 10 folds higher than other parameters. On the other hand, the runoff ratio of SS showed higher value of 0.001, and colloid particles of soil caused this result rather than the leachate from compost fertilizer. At all ranges of rainfall intensity, fertilizer removal ratio by farm land was found to be 94.9~98.4% for compost and 85.8~98.1% for liquid compost in terms of BOD. For TN, it resulted in 96.6~98.4% for compost and 97.2~98.5% for liquid compost, and thus the most fertilizer from livestock resources were shown to be reduced through farm land application.

The effectiveness of various additives in reduction of an unpleasant odor and inhibition of Bacillus cereus growth in Cheonggukjang (CKJ) was investigated. Sensory evaluations of unpleasant odor intensity and taste preference for CKJ were conducted with a 5-point scale. Raw CKJ was rated to have the highest unpleasant odor intensity, followed by CKJ-salt, CKJ-wood vinegar salt, CKJ-red pepper seed oil, and CKJ-bamboo salt in the given order. The test panel had a greater preference for CKJ-red pepper seed oil than for the other CKJ products. The addition of bamboo salt to CKJ was the most effective in inhibition of B. cereus growth in comparison to the other three additives. Volatile compounds in CKJ and CKJ-bamboo salt were identified by GC/MS analysis. 1-Ethoxy-1-methoxy-ethane was responsible for the pleasant odor and its level significantly increased in CKJ-bamboo salt. Consequently, adding bamboo salt to CKJ not only masked and reduced the unpleasant odor, but also inhibited B. cereus growth in CKJ.
The quality characteristics of blanched Aster scaber with the blanching condition and various solutes (non-treated, NT; soluble Ca, SC; sodium bicarbonate, SB; and magnesium sulfate, MS) were evaluated with different blanching times and solutes. The blanching process decreased the total polyphenolics, ascorbic acid contents, hardness, and cutting strength of the leaves. As for the pectinesterase and polygalacturonase, the blanching process increased their inhibitory activities, and more than 90% of them were inactivated in all the samples that were blanched. For the total counts and the number of coliform groups, the number of total aerobes at 5.92-log CFU/g before the blanching process was reduced to the approximately 2-3 log scale, and the coliform group was not detected after the blanching. The blanching also significantly decreased the total chlorophyll a and b ratios. The sensory characteristics of the Aster scaber according to the test group showed that the leaves blanched for 3 min were the most highly evaluated in terms of their overall acceptability. The phenolic compound, chlorophyll, and carotenoid contents tended to increase from before their blanching, and the Ca/Cb ratio was higher in the SC. These results showed that SC and MS treatment had greater effects on the quality characteristics and the pigmentation.

In this study, a retrofitting BNR process that was modified for the economical applicability was proposed and evaluated in the pilot plant($50m^3/d$). At the same time the bacterial community structure was investigated in the pilot plant by using FISH(fluorescent in situ hybridization) method. Economically 16% of the initial construction cost for the proposed process(introduction of a biological nutrient removal process of $60,000m^3/d$ scale basis) was reduced due to the absence of a bioreactor. Water treatment efficiencies and maintenance facilities of the modified process were satisfied with the strengthened discharge permits in Korea throughout a long term pilot plant operating including a winter season. Bacterial populations in the pilot plant and in the control plant(A2/O process, B SIP(Sewage Treatment Plant)) were remained uniformly during the test period, but bacterial structure in the bioreactor was changed drastically. Proportions of ${\beta}$-proteobacteria group including soil bacteria which play a important role in wastewater treatment increased $25{\sim}607%$ in population.

Recently, the construction of the urban area has been rapidly increasing, and the excavation work of the ground has been frequently performed at the upper part of the existing underground structure. Especially, when the structure is constructed after the excavation of the ground, the loading and unloading process is repeated in the lower ground of the excavation so that it can affect existing underground structures. Therefore, in order to maintain the stability of the existing underground structure due to the excavation of the ground, it is necessary to accurately grasp the influence of the excavation and the structure load in the adjoining part. In this study, the effects of the ground excavation and the new structure load on the existing tunnel were investigated by large - scale experiment and numerical analysis. For this purpose, a large model tester with a size reduced to 1/5 of the actual size was constructed, and model tests and numerical analyzes were carried out to investigate the effects of the excavation of the body ground by maintaining the distance between the excavation floor and the tunnel ceiling constant, The impacts were identified. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that the deeper the excavation depth, the larger the influence on the existing tunnel. At the same distance, it was confirmed that the tunnel displacement increased with the increase of the building load, and the ground stress increased up to 2.4 times. From this result, it was confirmed that the effect of the increase of the underground stress on the existing tunnel is affected by the increase of the building load, and the influence of the underground stress is decreased from the new load width above 3.0D.
