  • We fabricated red and blue organic light emitting display (OLEDs) which had the two kinds of multi-structure of ITO/HIL/HTL/EML/ETL/LiF/Al and ITO/HIL/HTL/EML/ETL/LiF/Al/LiF. In the case of red OLED that had LiF/Al/LiF structure compared to LiF/Al structure, the current density increased from 4.3 mA/$cm^2$ to 7.3 mA/$cm^2$, and the brightness increased from 488 cd/$m^2$ to 1,023 cd/$m^2$ at 7.0 V, and as a result the current efficiency was improved from 11.28 cd/A to 13.95 cd/A. Also in the case of blue OLED that had LiF on Al cathode layer, the current density increased from 1.2 mA/$cm^2$ to 1.8 mA/$cm^2$, and the brightness increased from 45 cd/$m^2$ to 85 cd/$m^2$ at 7.0 V, and as a result the current efficiency was improved from 3.69 cd/A to 4.82 cd/A. Through these experimental results it could be suggested that the LiF layer formed on Al prevents the oxidation of Al surface, and the electrode resistance become low with increase of supplied electrons, therefore the brightness and the efficiency are improved from the influence to the well-balanced bonding of electron and hole at emitting layer.

  • Coagulation process using aluminum sulfate ($Al_2(SO_4)_3$) and ferric chloride ($FeCl_3$) was employed as a treatment method for decolorization of a synthetic textile wastewater containing red dye in this paper. Factors such as initial pH, coagulant dosage, initial concentration, conductivity and mixing conditions that influence color removal efficiency were experimentally tested. It was found that $Al_2(SO_4)_3$ is more efficient than $FeCl_3$ as coagulant. When $40mgL^{-1}$ aluminum sulfate was used, results showed that color induced by the red dye was efficiently removed (> 90 %) and was obtained in a large range of initial pH from 4 to 8 with, and for a dye concentration lower than $235mg\;L^{-1}$. After addition of the coagulant, the medium had to be mixed for 30 min at 60 rpm, then allowed to settle for 40 min. The effects of water conductivity in the range $0.035-2.42mS\;cm^{-1}$ and dye concentration up to $380mg\;L^{-1}$ were also followed and discussed.

  • The red mud generated from the Bayer alumina production process seriously threatens the environment and human safety. Therefore, the reduction and recycling of red mud is an urgent topic in the aluminum industry. In this study, the effects of four parameters, ultrasound power, reaction temperature, time, and acid concentration, on the leaching of Fe, Al from red mud was investigated. The major parameters influencing the metal recovery efficiency from red mud were ultrasound power and reaction temperature. The use of ultrasonic irradiation resulted in 1.72 and 1.28 times higher recovery efficiency for Fe and Al, respectively. The proper conditions for the recovery of the metal components present in the red mud is the ultrasound intensity (150 W), sulfuric acid concentration (4-6N), reaction temperature ($70^{\circ}C$), and reaction time (2 hours), etc.

  • The effects of Al and Mn concentration on dry weight growth, nutrient status and gas exchange rates of 2-Year-old Japanese red pine(Pinus densiflora) seedlings grown in a nutrient culture solution were investigated. Al was added as aluminum chloride at 0, 10, 30 or 60ppm, and Mn was added as manganese chloride at 0, 30 or 60ppm to the nutrient culture solution. The pH of the solution was maintained at 4.0 by adding HCl or NaOH solution. The seedlings were transplanted into the nutrient culture solution, then they were grown in a greenhouse for 90 days. The interactive effects of Al and Mn on the dry weight growth of the seedlings were not significant. There were a main effect of Al or Mn on the dry weight growth and element concentrations of the seedlings. The treatment with Al of ${\geq}10ppm$ or that with Mn of 60ppm induced a significant reduction in the dry weight growth, which indicates that the effect of Al is stronger than that of Mn. The chlorophyll content of needles was not affected by Al treatment, but was significantly reduced by treatment with Mn of 60ppm. Furthermore, the treatment with Al of 60ppm or that with Mn of ${\geq}30ppm$ caused a significant reduction in the dark respiration rate of the roots. The net photosynthetic rate of the seedlings reduced with increasing the concentration of Al or Mn in the nutrient culture solution, which suggests that Al or Mn induced reductions in the relative growth rate(RGR) and net assimilation rate(NAR) of the seedlings were mainly due to the decrease of net photosynthesis.

  • To identify Cochlodinium polykrikoides red tide from non-red tide water (satellite high chlorophyll waters) in the South Sea of Korea (SSK), we improved a spectral classification method proposed by Son et al.(2011) for the world first Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI). C. polykrikoides blooms and non-red tide waters were classified based on four different criteria. The first step revealed that the radiance peaks of potential red tide water occurred at 555 and 680 nm (fluorescence peak). The second step separated optically different waters that were influenced by relatively low and high contributions of colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM) (including detritus) to chlorophyll. The third and fourth steps discriminated red tide water from non-red tide water based on the blue-to-green ratio, respectively. After applying the red tide classification, the spectral response of C. polykrikoides red tide water, which is influenced by pigment concentration as well as CDOM (detritus), showed different slopes for the blue and green bands (lower slope at blue bands and higher slope at green bands). The opposite result was found for non-red tide water. This modified spectral classification method for GOCI led to increase user accuracy for C. polykrikoides and non-red tide blooms and provided a more reliable and robust identification of red tides over a wide range of oceanic environments than was possible using chlorophyll a concentration, or proposed red tide detection algorithms. Maps of C. polykrikoides red tide in SSK outlined patches of red tide covering the area near Naro-do and Tongyeong during the end of July and early of August, 2012 and extending into from Wan-do and Geoje-do during the middle of August, 2012.

  • The optical characterization of self-assembled InAs/AlAs quantum dots(QD) grown by MBE were investigated using photoreflectance spectroscopy. The intensities of the signals of the GaAs buffer and wetting layer(WL) changed with the width of the WL layer. The PR spectrum for the sample, in which QDs layer were etched off at room temperature, indicated that the broadened signal ranging $1.1{\sim}1.4\;eV$ was originated from InAs QDs and WL. The intensities of signals of GaAs buffer and the WL changed with the WL width. A red shift of the PR peak of WL are observed when the annealing temperatures range from $450^{\circ}C$ to $750^{\circ}C$, which indicates that the interdiffusion between dots and capping layer is caused by improvement in size uniformity of QDs.

  • The new green and red phosphors for PDP application activated by T $b^{3+}$ and E $u^{3+}$ were synthesized, and their photoluminance properties were investigated. It was found that the brightness of $Al_3$Gd $B_4$ $O_{12}$ :T $b^{3+}$ green phosphor under 147nm VUV irradiation was higher than that of commercial Z $n_2$ $SiO_4$:M $n^{2+}$ phosphor. But the emitting intensity of A1$_3$Gd $B_4$ $O^{12}$ :E $u^{3+}$ red phosphor was inferior to the commercial (Y,Gd)B $O_3$:E $u^{3+}$. $Al_3$Gd $B_4$ $O_{12}$ Phosphor had a strong excitation band at 160nm associated with the host absorption, and also the photoluminance excitation intensity of $Al_3$Gd $B_4$ $O_{12}$ :T $b^{3+}$ was higher than that of Z $n_2$ $SiO_4$:M $n^{2+}$, but the intensity of $Al_3$Gd $B_4$ $O_{12}$ :E $u^{3+}$ phosphor was smaller than (Y,Gd)B $O_3$:E $u^{3+}$ phosphor In the VUV range. • The applicability as a material to improve solar cell performance was reviewed by synthesizing a phosphor that emits red wavelengths by a liquid synthesis method using a metal salt aqueous solution and a polymer medium as a starting material. An aqueous solution was prepared using nitrate of metals such as Ca, Zn, Al, and Eu, and a precursor impregnated with starch, a natural polymer, was sintered to synthesize CaZnAlO:Eu phosphor powder. The surface structure and composition analysis of the synthesized CaZnAlO:Eu phosphor powder were analyzed by scanning electron microscope(SEM) and energy-dispersed X-ray spectroscopy(EDS). The crystal structure of CaZnAlO:Eu phosphor particles was analyzed by an X-ray diffraction analyzer (XRD). As a result of measuring the photoluminescence(PL) characteristics of the phosphor, it was confirmed that a red phosphor with a light emitting wavelength of 650-780nm was successfully synthesized. According to SEM and EDS analysis, the synthesized Ca14Zn6Al9.93O35:Eu3+0.07 phosphor powder has a uniform particle size, and Eu ions used as an activator are present. The synthesized CZA:Eu3+ phosphor can be used as a material that can increase the light absorption efficiency of the solar cell by converting ultraviolet or visible light down conversion into a wavelength in the near-infrared region.
