  • The coffee grounds generated during the coffee extraction process contain several resources, but the technology for their recycling has not been commercialized yet, causing various environmental problems. Due to the recent increase in coffee consumption worldwide, the amount of coffee grounds produced has been continuously increasing, reaching more than 750 million tons. In Korea, about 120,000 tons of coffee waste are annually generated; however, most of them are landfilled or incinerated. Although there is still a shortage of coffee waste recycling technologies compared to the amount of coffee grounds produced, various recycling approaches are being actuated in many countries including Korea. In this study, the generation of coffee grounds at home and abroad, the status of coffee grounds recycling, and the associated technology development trends were investigated. The coffee grounds recycling has been studied in the fields of energy, adsorbent, construction, agriculture, and bio-foods. Research is most active in the energy and biotechnology areas; in particular, since the oil in the coffee grounds is valuable as a feedstock for biomass energy, the technology related to energy recovery is currently under development worldwide. Removed because confusing and unnecessary.

  • This paper proposes a design methodology for customer, assembly and disassembly considering recycling. The disign process starts with the identification of customer needs, which are in turn converted into functional requirements. The concepts of Design for Customer(DFC), Design for Assembly(DFA), Design for Variety(DFV) and Design for Disassembly(DFD) are considered in the product design phases in order to decreas production variety and mass customization. And, a new module generation approach is developed for rearranging and clustering parts and subassemblies for disassembly and recycling. Based on the result of the module generation, a new configuration methodology is suggested to minimize the disassembly time or number of disassembly operations for recycling.

  • The aim of this study was to develop the recycling methode of alloyed recycling plastics. The compatibilizers have been used to improve the physical properties of recycling plastics. Eethylene propylene rubber(EPR), ethylene propylene diene monomer(EPDM), styrene ethylene butylene styrene block copolymer(SEBS), maleic anhydride modified styrene ethylene butylene styrene block copolymer(SEBS-MA) and styrene butadiene styrene block copolymer(SBS) were singled out as compatibilizers. In this study, the physical properties such as impact and tensile strength have improved above 20% by using the compatibilizers.

  • Recently, a large amount of waste has been occurred from electric motor units (EMUs) due to the excess of their duration or the exchange of interior. In Korea, most of waste has been treated by incineration or landfill because the special treatment system of disused EMUs has not been existed until now. The objective of this study is to investigate the international railroad cases for the efficient treatment of disused EMUs. Japanese railroad makes an effort to enhance the recycling efficiency of rolling stocks such as the use of recycling materials or the development of recycling technology. Also, Europe has decided to treat the disused rolling stocks considering the inspection of their conditions and the increase of management cost. Therefore, in the future, it will be necessary to improve the domestic regulations related to the duration of rolling stocks and to develop the recycling technology of interior preferentially.

  • By comparing the status quo of recycling of new energy vehicles and waste power batteries at home and abroad, analyze the central relationship between recycling of waste power batteries and the interaction between various factors in China, consider the characteristics of blockchain technology, organically integrate into the reverse recycling network, and quantify the relevant factors. Make use of the constructed model to simulate, forecast, and compare and analyze whether to adopt blockchain technology and, on this basis, analyze the intrinsic relationship between various variables. To explore the different effects brought by changing different countermeasures according to different subjects, and expand it to the factor analysis in the whole reverse recycling supply chain to help the government and operators and enterprises to make more objective and scientific decisions, to provide a particular reference for promoting the recycling of waste power batteries and the development of power battery manufacturing industry in China.

  • Due to the increase in population and consequently the increase in the production of plastic waste, recovery of this part of the waste is an undeniable necessity. On the other hand, the recycling of plastic waste, if it is placed in a systematic process and controlled, can be effective in creating jobs and maintaining environmental health. Waste collection in many large cities has become a major problem due to lack of proper planning with increasing waste from population accumulation and changing consumption patterns. Today, waste management is no longer limited to waste collection, but waste collection is one of the important areas of its management, i.e. training, segregation, collection, recycling and processing. In this study, a systematic method based on machine vision for sorting plastic bottles in different colors for recycling purposes will be proposed. In this method, image classification and segmentation techniques were presented to improve the performance of plastic bottle classification. Evaluation of the proposed method and comparison with previous works showed the proper performance of this method.

  • In this study, the treatment flow of the recyclables(paper, plastic, metal, etc.) collected and separated from MSW was investigated throughout entire phase from separation and collection to final disposal. Based on the site survey, most recyclables came into six material recovery facilities were comparatively managed well. However, some of recyclables showed irrelatively transportation flow. Because the main income source of the recyclables transportation companies is profit margin between treatment and transportation cost based on economics only therefore, it occurs an unnecessary route and long distance transportation while going to final destination. This unreasonable system should be a serious problem relating establishment of the resource recycling system. As a result of this study, in order to establish the reasonably resource recycling system, recycling center including material recovery facility has to manage the recyclables generated in close range preferentially. Also integrated its treatment system over a wide area will need to be considered as a basic step for the reasonable reasonably resource recycling system.

  • European directive DIRECTIVE 2002/96/EC requires minimum recycling & recovery rates on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). We tried to make references for recycling and recovery rates of parts and materials used in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE), which could be used to calculate recyclability and recoverability rates of a product in the development phase. First, we investigated recycling processes of WEEE and recycling and recovery characteristics of parts and materials. Based on the investigation results and the european recycling data, we made a data base of parts and materials for calculation of recycling and recovery rates of EEE. The developed DB was improved by reflecting advices of european experts.

  • The statistics showed that about 1 billion automobiles were registered and about 40million ELVs occurred on the world in 2010. So all advanced countries including EU had plan to increase the ELVs recycling rate up to 95% of total by 2015. The Korean government also established a target for raising up to 95% of ELVs recycling rate according to 'Act on the Resource Circulation of Electrical and Electronic Equipment and Vehicles'. Before being satisfied with the requirement of recycling of ELVs however, the problem is issued on the scraps of plastic and non-ferrous metals which are now being abandoned and reclaimed with no adequate reuse. Therefore, as a part of preceding investigation on the present state of ELVs recycling in the world, this preliminary investigation study was carried out focusing on the state of EU's disposal and management regulations of ELVs and SLF/ASR including the world trend of disposal and management regulations of ELVs and SLF/ASR.

  • Recently, the importance of efficient resource management has been highlighted due to the uncertainty of its security. Korea has thus made an effort to improve the resource productivity in various fields such as the increase of recycling rate and the establishment of methodical resource management system. It is still necessary to draw the innovative improvement measure of national resource efficiency. This study derives major issues of recycling potential in the domestic industry by analyzing the current status of generation, treatment and recycling of industrial wastes in Korea. Futhermore, main tasks for promoting the improvement of national resource efficiency through the recycling of industrial wastes in Korea have been proposed based on the results of this study with the comparison of Japan's situation.
