Environmental awareness is rising worldwide. however, cement manufacturing facilities use recycled resources to improve raw material and fuel substitution rates, contributing to environmental issues such as waste disposal. The emission of sulfur oxides (SOx), an air pollutant, has been regulated by limestone as raw material in cement manufacturing. However, the impact of increasing use of recycled resources on future facility processes and environmental changes is unclear. Therefore, the cement manufacturing facilities require desulfurization-related technologies and research. In this study, we investigated the applicability of desulfurization technology to cement manufacturing facilities and demonstrated various approaches to applying this technology using byproducts generated in cement manufacturing.

As the local self-government are stabilized and the environmental value is becoming more important among local residents, the occurrence of the anti-movements against waste treatment facilities is getting more frequent. Opposing to build the reuse facilities of wastes takes place because of concerning of health and hygiene, as well as matters of unclear policy making process. However, these facilities must be built in somewhere for the convenience and profit of the public. The NIMBY phenomenon against reuse facilities of wastes could be a burden for the city operation system, and it could worsen citizens' quality of life in the long run. In these lights, reuse and recycling facilities of wastes in East region are necessary facilities improving citizens' quality of life and enhancing the growth of cities in the region. However, there have been concerning of deforestation during the construction process of the facilities. The landscape design presented here for these facilities considers the features of the environmental ecosystem and tries to establish a plan to preserve the natural environment of the City of Ichon. This paper presents methods minimizing adverse effects of the facilities on the existing environments and promoting the city image with integrating culture, tourism, landscape and environment of the city. The landscape design makes efforts to harmonize natural environments in the site, human activities and culture. Well-being park was aimed to lead healthy and energetic outdoor activities of local residents. Ecological park was aimed to enhance the ecological functions of the forests and restore the valley ecology. Culture park was aimed to capture the city identity by creating a place that contains all the variety of meanings of the City of Ichon.

In the analysis of the common categories, moisture contents and organic concentrations were not much different according to the types of industry or treatment facilities. When heavy metals contribution of the sludge from domestic and industrial wastewater treatment facilities was analyzed, As, Hg and Cr concentrations were relatively high among 42 standards of the fertilizer law. As concentration war higher in 28 of 42 facilities (67%) than limits of the fertilizer law. Hg concentration was not acceptable in the 21 of 42 facilities (50%). Cr concentration was not acceptable in 9 of 42 facilities (21%). From these results, It is found that As is the most frequently detectable component and contaminant than any other heavy metals in sludges. The data from this experiment was also compared with the guidelines of harmful organics and the rest of heavy metals that are regulated by some of the foreign countries. Be, Se and Mo concentrations were lower than the limits. Among the organics, the average concentration of PCB (10 samples) was 26.2 ppb. The highest concentration was 162.6 ppb in the sludge of the municipal wastewater treatment facilities and the lowest concentration was 2.14 ppb from the skin manufacturing industry. From the leaching analysis of re-manufacturing goods from the sludge, most of them was acceptable on the regulation law but Cr concentration was over the limit.

In this study, to optimize the production and utilization of biogas for organic waste resources, the precision monitoring of on-site facilities and the energy balance by facility were analyzed, and the solutions for field problems were investigated, and the design and operation guidelines for pretreatment facilities and generators were presented. Gas pre-treatment is required to solve frequent failures and efficiency degradation in operation of high quality refining facilities, and processing processes such as desulfurization, dehumidification, deoxidization, dust treatment, volatile organic compounds, etc. Since these processes are substances that are also eliminated from the high-quality process, quantitative guidelines are not presented in the gas pretreatment process, but are suggested to operate during the processing process as a qualitative guideline. In particular, dust, siloxane, and volatile organic compounds are the main cause of frequent failure of high-quality processes if they are not removed from the gas pretreatment process. Design of the biogas high-quality process. The operation guidelines provide quality standards [Methane content (including propane) of 95% or more] with 90% or more utilization of the total gas generation, two systems, and a margin of 10% or more. It also proposed installing gas equalization tank, installing thermal automatic control system for controlling equalization of auxiliary fuel, installing dehumidification device at the back of high quality for removing moisture generated in the process of gas compression, installing heat-resisting facilities to prevent freezing of facilities in winter and reducing efficiency, and installing membrane facilities in particular.
In general, recyclable items are separately discharged from households and then, hand-sorted into different types of valuables at materials recovery facilities (MRF). However, most of residues after hand-sorting are finally end up with landfill and/or incineration due to lack of separation technologies and economical reasons. In the present study, physical properties on recyclable items obtained from an MRF are investigated to improve the recovery of valuable items. The results of physical compositions based on the sizing tests are also presented.

There is no simple method to solve livestock waste problems satisfactorily. For a successful solution, various methods should be well organized orderly depending upon the situation. Even in the livestock waste management, integrated waste management principle should be applied. Minimization of livestock waste generation is the first priority. It is also important to distribute fairly livestock farms throughout the nation. Efficient management of permit system is equally important. Permit should be given only when the farmer have enough grass-land on which the farmer can apply more than two thirds of livestock waste generated or when the farm have an anaerobic digestor in which store livestock waste generated for at least 3 months. In principle, livestock waste should be treated in the farm and it is desirable to operate composting facilities in the farm site too.
The study was performed to investigate the present situation of sourceseparation, recycling of domestic waste and citizen's attitude to them. The selected study area were Dobonggu in Seoul, Siheung city, Kimpogun. The result showed that most of the citizen in the selected area is performing source separation effort by group activity basis. However, there is no strong economic incentives for continuous source separation effect since the price of the recyclables is relatively low. For the recycled products, most people appears to think that the diversification of the product should be necessary for a bitter market competativeness. For the disporsable product, most citizen feels that free that supply in the public facilities should be prohibited.

In the past, MSW (Municipal Solid Waste) disposal was typically done by recycling, incineration, or landfilling. In South Korea prior to the late 1950's, land burial was usually accomplished by disposal in an open dump. Currently, with increasing concerns and environmental recognition, MSW disposal and landfilling is more restricted. MSW landfill facilities have been developed with certain design and construction specifications. However, these methods have a space for improvement. MSW landfill facilities follow a step wise approach of design, construction, operation and closure management after use in agreement with established environmental and sanitary standards. This study intends to give a technical guidance for installation and consideration of newly established MSW landfill facilities, and also provide an establishment and regular inspection of MSW landfill facilities.

The purpose of this study is to provide a design and operation technical guideline for meeting the appropriate design criteria to bio-gasification facilities treating organic wastes. Based on the results obtained during the field surveys, the overall design and operation guidelines for bio-gasification facilities, monitoring items, cycle and commissioning period were presented. According to the flow of anaerobic digestion process, Various design factors for bio-gasification facilities were proposed in this study. When designing the initial anaerobic digestion capacity, 10 ~ 30% of the treatment capacity was applied considering the discharge characteristics by the incoming organic wastes. At the import storage hopper process, limit concentration of transporting organic wastes was limited to TS 10 % or less, and limit concentration of inhibiting factor was suggested in operation of anaerobic digester. In addition, organic loading rate (OLR) was shown as $1.5{\sim}4.0kgVS_{in}/(m^3{\cdot}day)$ for the combined bio-gasification facilities of animal manure and food wastes. Desulfurization and dehumidification methods of biogas from anaerobic digestor and proper periods of liquifization tank were suggested in design guideline. It is recommended that the operating parameters of the biogasification facilities to be maintained at pH (acid fermentation tank 4.5~6.5, methane fermentation tank 6.0~8.0), temperature variation range within $2^{\circ}C$, management of volatile fatty acid and ammonia concentration less than 3,000 mg/L, respectively.
The integrated solid waste management for Seoul Metropolitan city can be established on the basis of the following hierarchy of priorities: 1. Efforts for source reduction should be propelled by both government and citizens to achieve the effects of resource conservation. The adequate production and consumption which are environmentally amenable and sustainable can be induced by the reasonable imposition of deposit money for waste treatment to one-time use products. To accomplish source reduction effectively, the induction of legal and institutional regulation of producer and consumer participation is requisite. 2. For resource recovery, wastes generated should be recycled as far as practicable. Community residents are responsible to separate discharge, the authorities concerned have responsibility of separate collection, and recycling industry should be assissted through tax reduction and financing. Resource separation facilities can be constructed at Kimpo Metropolitan landfill site for wastes not separately collected due to some unavoidable circumstances. 3. Garbage should be composted. Garbage is uneconomical for incineration, because it has high moisture content and low calorie, thus there is no reason for the incineration of garbage even though garbage is classified into combustibles. Composting facilities can be located at sites which are not densely populated and easily accessible to transportation, for example, Kimpo Metropolitan landfill site. Compost produced can be managed by the authorities for the use of fertilizer to a green tract of suburban land and farms. 4. Nonhazardous combustible wastes not recyclable can be utilized for thermal recovery at the incinerators which are completely equipped with pollution control devices. According to the trend of local autonomy and the equity principle of local autonomous entities, incineration facilities of minimal capacity required can be constructed at each districts of Seoul Metropolitan city which have organized local assembly. In case of Yangcheon district, the economically combustible waste quantity is about 260 tons/day which exceeds 150 tons/day, the incineration capacity of existing facility. But, from now on, waste quantity can be reduced substantially by the intensive efforts of citizens for source reduction and recycling and the institutional support of administrative organizations. Especially, it is indispensable for the government to constitute institutional and technological bases that can recycle paper and plastics form 43% of waste generated. A good time for constructing of incineration facilities for municipal solid waste can be postponed to the time that pollution control technologies of domestic enterprises are fully developed to satisfy the standards of air pollution prevention, because the life expectancy of Kimpo Metropolitan landfill site is about 25 years. Within this period, institutional improvements and technological advancements can be attained, while the air qual. ity of Seoul Metropolitan city can be ameliorated to the level to afford incineration facilities. 5. For final disposal, incombustibles and ash are landfilled sanitarily at Kimpo Metropolitan landfill site.
