MBR 공정 적용을 위한 전처리 오존산화에 의한 형광증백제 제거 연구 (Study on the Removal of Fluorescent Whitening Agent by Pretreatment Ozone Oxidation for MBR Process Application)

  • In this study, ozone oxidation experiment was carried out for the removal of fluorescent whitening agent which is widely used in textile dyeing and paper industry. The stilbene fluorescent whitening agent has been industrialized since the earliest, and the amount of current production is the highest. Due to the characteristics of the fluorescent whitening agent that can not be removed by conventional wastewater treatment methods, the fluorescent whitening agent in wastewater treatment has difficulty in using as recycled water in the process. Pre-treatment ozone oxidation experiment was conducted prior to the introduction of Membrane Bio Reactor(MBR) treatment process by converting biodegradable materials into biodegradable materials. The removal efficiencies of fluorescent whitening agents, a diaminostilbenedisulfonic acid derivative by ozone oxidation were evaluated by $UV_{254}$ Scan, $COD_{Mn}$, T-N and color using a synthetic wastewater sample ($COD_{Mn}=433.0mg/{\ell}$) and paper and paper mill wastewater ($COD_{Mn}=157.2mg/{\ell}$).

  • Biopulping is defined as the treatment of wood chips with lignin-degrading fungi prior to pulping. Fungal pretreatment prior to mechanical pulping reduces electrical energy requirements during refining or increases mill throughput, improves paper strength, reduces the pitch content, and reduces the environmental impact of pulping. Our recent work involved scaling up the biopulping process towards the industrial level, investigating both the engineering and economic feasibility. We envision the process to be done in either a chip-pile or silo-based system for which several factors need to be considered: the degree of decontamination, a hospitable environment for the fungus, and the overall process economics. Currently, treatment of the chips with low-pressure steam is sufficient for decontamination and a simple, forced ventilation system maintains the proper temperature, humidity, and moisture conditions, thus promoting uniform growth of the fungus. The pilot-scale trial resulted in the successful treatment of 4 tons of wood chips (dry weight basis) with results comparable to those on a laboratory. Larger, 40-ton trials were also successful, with energy savings and paper properties comparable with the laboratory scale. The overall economics of the process also look very favorable and can result in significant annual savings to the mill. Although the current research has focused on biopulping for mechanical pulping, it is also beneficial for sulfite chemical pulping and some applications to recycled fiber have been investigated.

인쇄용지 재활용을 위한 형광증백제 탈착에 대한 기초연구 (Study on the Detachment of Fluorescent Whitening Agents from White Waster Papers)

  • White waste papers are very important resources in the paper industry, but their use is limited because of the residual of fluorescent whitening agent (FWA). So the removal of FWAs from waste paper is an important task in the recycling process to improve the use of recycled resources. In this study, we focused on the FWAs used for surface treatments and carried out physical and chemical treatments to remove them from white waste papers. The white waste papers were disintegrated with a surfactant in different pH and temperature conditions, and then handsheets were made for the measurement of the fluorescence index, which is proportional to the amount of FWAs on papers. The effect of the flotation process on the removal of FWAs after disintegration was also investigated. The fluorescence index decreased as the disintegration time increased, but over a relatively long time, the fluorescence index increased again, which indicated the readsorption of the FWAs detached from the cellulosic fibers of the white waste papers. The lowest fluorescence index was shown when the waste papers were disintegrated with a 0.3% surfactant addition at pH 10 and at $45^{\circ}C$. However, the flotation treatment was not effective, because the flotation induced contact between the detached FWAs and the cellulosic fibers, and re-adsorption occurred.

멀칭종이 기름먹인 멀칭종이 및 요소피복 멀칭종이를 이용한 봄감자 재배시 생육과 수량 (Growth and Yield of Potato as Affected by Paper, Oil-treated Paper and Urea-coated Paper Mulching in Spring Season Culture)

  • 고지로 개발된 멀칭종이, 여기에 폐식용유를 먹인 밀칭종이 및 요소를 피복한 멀칭종이의 봄감자 멀칭재배에서 잡초발생, 토양온도와 감자의 생육 및 수량 변화를 조사한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1 감자 파종 직후 약 10일간의 평균지온(5cm)은 일반 멀칭종이에서 18.9$^{\circ}C$로 무멀칭처리보다 0.5$^{\circ}C$ 낮았고, 기름먹인 멀칭종이의 지온은 20.6$^{\circ}C$로 무멀칭처리보다 1.2$^{\circ}C$높았다. 한편, 밝은 날 최고기온은 무멀칭에 비하여 기름먹인 멀칭종이의 경우는 6.6$^{\circ}C$ 높아졌으며 일반 멀칭종이는 무멀칭에 비하여 4.6$^{\circ}C$ 낮아졌다. 2. 멀칭 후 80일까지 일반 멀칭종이는 약 20% 정도만 분해되었고, 비료를 피복한 멀칭종이의 분해는 이보다 빨랐지만 멀칭 후 80일까지 약 50%정도가 분해되었다. 기름백인 멀종이는 일반 멀칭종이에 비하여 분해가 다소 지연되었다. 모든 멀칭종이 처리에서 감자 전 생육기간에 걸쳐서 잡초의 발생이 효과적으로 억제되었다. 3. 감자의 출아율은 처리간 유의한 차이는 없었으나 기름먹인 종이에서 다른 처리에 비해 다소 낮았으며, 감자의 지상부 및 뿌리건물중도 기름먹인 종이에서 다른 처리에 비해 낮았다. 감자의 수량은 기름먹인 멀칭종이가 다른 처리에 비해 유의하게 낮았으며. 일반 멀칭종이, 요소피복 멀칭종이 및 무멀칭 처리간에는 감자 수량에 유의한 차이가 없었다. 4. 기름먹인 멀칭종이는 출아기 및 생육초기 고온으로 씨감자의 부패가 많았으며 초기생육도 억제되어 수량이 낮았다. 그러나 본 실험(4월15일 파종)에서보다 조기에 파종하는 경우는 본 연구결과와 다를 것으로 생각되며 이에 대해서는 추가적인 검토가 필요하다.

Sizing Efficiency of AKD in Causticizing Calcium Carbonate Filled Paper

  • Causticizing calcium carbonate (CCC) is produced as a by-product in the causticization step of the kraft pulping process. It is often calcined in a rotary lime kiln after being dewatered and reused in the causticizing process. But for the China mill, the conventional recycled way is difficult because the CCC is mainly obtained from non-wood pulping materials, which higher silicon content led to serious silicon obstacle. So it is often discarded as solid waste or used in landfill after dewatering and secondary pollution is brought. In order to prevent its secondary pollution, recent years, the CCC is used as a filler in China papermaking industry. In mill trials, the CCC can be used to replace an amount of precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC). Unfortunately, the application scope and dosage of CCC have been limited due to its lower sizing efficiency than PCC. In this study, the reason for the lower sizing efficiency of alkyl ketene dimer (AKD) when CCC was used as a filler was investigated. The results showed that the materials in green liquid, such as insoluble matter in green liquid, silicon and metal ions, were a little influence on the sizing efficiency of AKD. The higher BET and BJH pore volume of the CCC were the main reason for lower sizing efficiency of AKD when it was used as filler.

개질처리된 목질계 스페이서의 산업용지 생산현장 적용평가 (The Evaluation of the Application of Modified Wood Powder Spacers to Liner Board Mill Trials)

  • The reduction of the energy consumption in papermaking process become more important issue because of the regulation of green house gas (GHG) emission. Since more than half of energy for papermaking process is consumed during drying process, the increase of the drying efficiency would be very important solution for saving energy and reduction of GHG emission. The improvement of drying efficiency could be very difficult for the liner board mill because the liner board are usually made of recycled paper, OCC (old corrugated container). The short fiber and fines originated the OCC lead to compact sheet structure and delay the water flow out during wet pressing process and drying process. The application of lignocellulose spacer could provide more loose wet sheet structure and result in the higher drainage rate and the improved drying efficiency. In this study, the effects of the application of lignocellulose spacer to the liner board mill were evaluated based on the mill trial. In order to overcome the common disadvantage of the spacer, the loss of strength properties, the spacer was pretreated with amphoteric polyelectrolyte during mill trial. The results showed the application of pretreated spacer improved the drying efficiency by reducing steam consumption. And the loss in the strength properties by the spacer could be supplemented by the pretreatment.

Development of Defogger Equipped with a Roller Horsehair Brush

  • In order to remove fog often causes various troubles in our daily lives, the novel defog blower equipped the roller brush made of recycled horse's mane hair was developed. This work presents the overview of new defog devices and the experimental data obtained at two different kinds of defogging experiments. In the model experiment carried out at the enclosed cleanroom ($W5.9m{\times}L5.1m{\times}H2.4m$) targeted a vinyl house, fog was dissipated in less than 30 seconds in case with wind entrainment and two minutes 45 seconds in case without wind entrainment after running of the newly designed defog blower. When the demisting blower was run in a duct, it has an excellent mist sweeping qualities as well as a great removal effect for the background particles (89.5% and 65.4% scavenging rates for fine and coarse particles, respectively). It can be therefore said that the mist eliminator presented in this paper is ideal for use in the sealing space like a vinyl house and the industrial sites where required to remove both harmful mist and particle.

자동차 리싸이클링의 현황과 과제 (Current Status and Future Prospects for The Car Recycling System in Korea)

  • The Korean Auto industry has developed remarkably over the past 30 years. In 2000 alone, Korea produced 3.11 million vehicles, and the number of vehicles registered surpassed the ten million mark. As the number of vehicles registered in Korea has increased, yew after you, a rising number of cars have been scrapped. In 2000, a total of 455,592 automobiles were scrapped, up dramatically from only 101,158 in 1989. The system for handling of ELV(End-of-Life Vehicles) in Korea is governed by the "Motor Vehicle Control Act". The Act places the responsibility for vehicle scrapping directly on the vehicle owners. h vehicle owner can only can eel a vehicle registration after he gets a certificate from an authorized vehicle dismantler showing that his vehicle was properly scrapped according to the law. The take-back rate of ELV reaches nearly 100% in Korea. The vehicle scrapping process in Korea is very similar to those in other countries. fluids such as fuels and oils are first removed, and recyclable parts are collected and separated. Engines and transmissions are dismantled and recycled for use as raw material. Plastics, which are not easily reused, are generally treated as industrial wastes. The "Motor Vehicle Control Act" prohibits reuse of certain parts in order to guarantee the safety of the used auto parts. However, some restrictions on the reuse of auto parts have recently been eased to promote recycling. In this paper, additionally, car recycling policy of the foreign countries such as Japan, Germany and EU were reviewed.

A Flexible and Expandable Representation Framework for Computational Science Data

  • EDISON is a web-based platform that provides easy and convenient use of simulation software on high-performance computers. One of the most important roles of a computational science platform, such as EDISON, is to post-process and represent the simulation results data so that the user can easily understand the data. We interviewed EDISON users and collected requirements for post-processing and represent of simulation results, which included i) flexible data representation, ii) supporting various data representation components, and iii) flexible and easy development of view template. In previous studies, it was difficult to develop or contribute data representation components, and the view templates were not able to be shared or recycled. This causes a problem that makes it difficult to create ecosystems for the representation tool development of numerous simulation software. EDISON-VIEW is a framework for post-processing and representing simulation results produced from the EDISON platform. This paper proposes various methods used in the design and development of the EDISON-VIEW framework to solve the above requirements and problems. We have verified its usefulness by applying it to simulation software in various fields such as material, computational fluid dynamics, computational structural dynamics, and computational chemistry.

재활용 PP/EVOH/PP 스크랩의 상용화제별 열적/기계적 특성연구 (The Thermal and Mechanical Properties of Recycled PP/EVOH/PP Scrap with Compatibilizers)

  • 식품 포장재로 사용되는 PP/EVOH/PP 다층 복합필름 scrap의 재활용 가능성을 연구하였다. 본 연구는 PP/EVOH scrap에 두 종류의 상용화제를 첨가하여 열적 특성과 기계적 특성을 조사하였다. 열적 특성은 융융거동을, 그리고 기계적 특성으로는 인장강도, 파단신율, 인장탄성율 등의 특성을 상용화제의 종류와 조성비 변화에 따라 조사하였다. 이들 연구로부터 상용화제인 Minanto-s와 GMS에 대해서 모두 0.5wt. %이상의 조성에서 혼합재질인 PP/EVOH scrap의 상용성을 갖게 함을 알 수 있었다.
