A Voltage Instability Predictor(VIP) estimates the proximity of a power system to voltage collapse in real time. Voltage Instability Index(Z-index) from VIP algorithm is estimated using LS(Least Square) method. But this method has oscillations and noise of result due to the system's changing conditions. To suppress oscillations, a larger data window needs to be used. In this paper. I propose the new other method which improves that weakness. It uses RLS(Recursive Least Square) to estimate voltage instability index without a large moving data window so this method is suitable for on-line monitor and control in real time. In order to verify effectiveness of the algorithm using RLS method, the method is tested on HydroQuebec system in real time digital simulator(HYPERSIM).
Flicker, which is also known as voltage fluctuation, is an electromagnetic phenomenon generated by large scale nonlinear loads, such as arc furnaces and welding machines. Since a severe and continuous flicker can cause to some damages to electrically sensitive loads as well as human's visual irritations, it needs to be appropriately managed by being accurately measured, quantified and assessed. In Korea, an equivalent 10-Hz flicker index, shortly ${\Delta}V10$, is used to determine the permission limit of flicker. This paper presents an efficient calculation of the flicker index by using a half-cycle sliding window and a recursive method, showing a concrete calculating procedure of ${\Delta}V10$ from the viewpoint of signal processing.
Arc must be stable during welding first of all other factors for obtaining sound weldment, especially in the automation of welding process. Arc stability is somewhat sophisticated phenomenon which is not clearly defined yet. In consumable electrode welding, the voltage and current variation due to metal transfer enables to assess arc stability. Recently, statistical analyses of the voltage and current waveform factors are performed to assess the degress of arc stability which is assessed and controlled by operator's own experience by now. But, considering the increasing need and the trend of automation of welding process, it is necessary to monitor arc stability in real-time. In this sutdy, the modified stability index composed of two voltage and current wvaeform factors (arc time and short circuit time) reduced from four factors (arc time, short circuit time, average arc current and average short circuit current) in Mita's index by the welding electrical circuit modeling is proposed and verified by experiments to be well estimating arc stability in the static sense. Also, the recursive calculation form estimating present arc stability in the dynamic sense is developed for real-time estimation. The results of applying the recursive index during welding show good estimation of arc stability in real-time. Therefore, the results of this study offers the mean for real-time control arc stability.
This study develops a novel recursive algorithm to significantly enhance the computation efficiency of a recently proposed stochastic subspace identification (SSI) methodology based on an alternative stabilization diagram. Exemplified by the measurements taken from the two investigated office buildings, it is first demonstrated that merely one sixth of computation time and one fifth of computer memory are required with the new recursive algorithm. Such a progress would enable the realization of on-line and almost real-time monitoring for these two steel framed structures. This recursive SSI algorithm is further applied to analyze 20 months of monitoring data and comprehensively assess the environmental effects. It is certified that the root-mean-square (RMS) response can be utilized as an excellent index to represent most of the environmental effects and its variation strongly correlates with that of the modal frequency. More detailed examination by comparing the monthly correlation coefficient discloses that larger variations in modal frequency induced by greater RMS responses would typically lead to a higher correlation.
In this paper, we construct eight infinite families of ternary linear codes associated with double cosets with respect to certain maximal parabolic subgroup of the special orthogonal group $SO^-$(2n, q). Here q is a power of three. Then we obtain four infinite families of recursive formulas for power moments of Kloosterman sums with square arguments and four infinite families of recursive formulas for even power moments of those in terms of the frequencies of weights in the codes. This is done via Pless power moment identity and by utilizing the explicit expressions of exponential sums over those double cosets related to the evaluations of "Gauss sums" for the orthogonal groups $O^-$(2n, q).
In this paper, the design of recursive radial basis function neural networks based on incremental fuzzy c-means is introduced for processing the big data. Radial basis function neural networks consist of condition, conclusion and inference phase. Gaussian function is generally used as the activation function of the condition phase, but in this study, incremental fuzzy clustering is considered for the activation function of radial basis function neural networks, which could effectively do big data processing. In the conclusion phase, the connection weights of networks are given as the linear function. And then the connection weights are calculated by recursive least square estimation. In the inference phase, a final output is obtained by fuzzy inference method. Machine Learning datasets are employed to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed classifier, and their results are described from the viewpoint of the algorithm complexity and performance index.
In the WKB analysis, we propose the new forms of the trial eigenfunctions which not only converge at the turning points but also approximate to the conventional WKB solutions away from the turning points. The eigenvalue equation of multiple waveguides with graded index profile are derived by using the proposed WKB analysis and the transfer matrix method. The drived equation sare represented in the recursive form. The results of the eigenvalue equation sare comapred with those of the FDM, one of the well-known computational methods, for a three-waveguide coupler.
Inverse analysis of non-linear reinforced concrete bridge pier using recursive Gaussian filtering for in-situ condition assessment is the main theme of this work. For this purpose, minimum variance unbiased estimation using unscented sigma points is adopted here. The uniqueness of this inverse analysis lies in its approach for strain based updating of engineering demand parameters, where appropriate bound and constrained conditions are introduced to ensure numerical stability and convergence. In this analysis, seismic input is also identified, which is an added advantage for the structures having no dedicated sensors for earthquake measurement. First, the proposed strategy is tested with a simulated example whose hysteretic properties are obtained from the slow-cyclic test of a frame to investigate its efficiency and accuracy. Finally, the experimental test data of a full-scale bridge pier is used to study its in-situ condition in terms of Park & Ang damage index. Overall the study shows the ability of the augmented minimum variance unbiased estimation based recursive time-marching algorithm for non-linear system identification with the aim to estimate the engineering damage parameters that are the fundamental information necessary for any future decision making for retrofitting/rehabilitation.
Power system frequency is the main index of power quality indicating an abnormal state and disturbances of systems. The nominal frequency is deviated by sudden change in generation and load or faults. Power system is used as frequency relay to detection for off-nominal frequency operation and connecting a generator to an electrical system, and V/F relay to detection for an over-excitation condition. Under these circumstances, power system should maintain the nominal frequency. And frequency and frequency deviation should accurately measure and quickly estimate by frequency measurement device. The well-known classical method, frequency estimation technique based on the DFT, could be produce the gain error in accuracy. To meet the requirements for high accuracy, recently Wavelet transforms and analysis are receiving new attention. The Wavelet analysis is possible to calculate the time-frequency analysis which is easy to obtain frequency information of signals. However, it is difficult to apply in real-time implementation because of heavy computation burdens. Nowadays, the computational methods using the Wavelet function and transformation techniques have been searched on these fields. In this paper, we apply the Recursive Discrete Wavelet Transform (RDWT) for the frequency estimation. In order to evaluate performance of the proposed technique, the user-defined arbitrary waveforms are used.

This paper presents an effective approach to minimize recursive computations for balancing stereo pairs by using disparity vector errors and its directional histogram. A stereo balancing function is computed from the correspondent pixels between two images, and a simple approach is to find the matching blocks of two images. However, this procedure requires recursive operation, and its computation cost is very high. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an efficient balance method using structural similarity index and a partial re-searching scheme to reduce the computation cost considerably. For this purpose, we determine if re-searching for each block is necessary or not by using the errors and the directional histogram of disparity vectors. Experiment results show that the performance of the proposed approach can save the computations significantly with ignorable image quality degradation compared with full re-search approach.
