Efficient Solving Methods Exploiting Sparsity of Matrix in Real-Time Multibody Dynamic Simulation with Relative Coordinate Formulation

  • In this paper, new methods for efficiently solving linear acceleration equations of multibody dynamic simulation exploiting sparsity for real-time simulation are presented. The coefficient matrix of the equations tends to have a large number of zero entries according to the relative joint coordinate numbering. By adequate joint coordinate numbering, the matrix has minimum off-diagonal terms and a block pattern of non-zero entries and can be solved efficiently. The proposed methods, using sparse Cholesky method and recursive block mass matrix method, take advantages of both the special structure and the sparsity of the coefficient matrix to reduce computation time. The first method solves the η$\times$η sparse coefficient matrix for the accelerations, where η denotes the number of relative coordinates. In the second method, for vehicle dynamic simulation, simple manipulations bring the original problem of dimension η$\times$η to an equivalent problem of dimension 6$\times$6 to be solved for the accelerations of a vehicle chassis. For vehicle dynamic simulation, the proposed solution methods are proved to be more efficient than the classical approaches using reduced Lagrangian multiplier method. With the methods computation time for real-time vehicle dynamic simulation can be reduced up to 14 per cent compared to the classical approach.

IRK vs Structural Integrators for Real-Time Applications in MBS

  • Recently, the authors have developed a method for real-time dynamics of multibody systems, which combines a semi-recursive formulation to derive the equations of motion in dependent relative coordinates, along with an augmented Lagrangian technique to impose the loop closure conditions. The following numerical integration procedures, which can be grouped into the so-called structural integrators, were tested : trapezoidal rule, Newmark dissipative schemes, HHT rule, and the Generalized-${\alpha}$ family. It was shown that, for large multi body systems, Newmark dissipative was the best election since, provided that the adequate parameters were chosen, excellent behavior was achieved in terms of efficiency and robustness with acceptable levels of accuracy. In the present paper, the performance of the described method in combination with another group of integrators, the Implicit Runge-Kutta family (IRK), is analyzed. The purpose is to clarify which kind of IRK algorithms can be more suitable for real-time applications, and to see whether they can be competitive with the already tested structural family of integrators. The final objective of the work is to provide some practical criteria for those interested in achieving real-time performance for large and complex multibody systems.

U형 벨로우즈의 유한요소해석과 특정 강성을 위한 형상최적설계 (A Finite Element Analysis and Shape Optimal Design with Specified Stiffness for U-typed Bellows)

  • A bellows is a component installed in the automobile exhaust system to reduce the impact from an engine. It's stiffness has a great influence on the natural frequency of the system. Therefore, it must be designed to keep the specified stiffness that requires in the system. This study present the finite element analysis of U-typed bellows using a curved conical frustum element and the shape optimal design with specified stiffness. The finite element analysis is verified by comparing with the experimental results. In the shape optimal design, the weight is considered as the cost function. The specified stiffness from the system design is transformed to equality constraints. The formulation has inequality constraints imposed on the fatigue limit, the natural frequencies, the buckling load and the manufacturing conditions. A procedure for shape optimization adopts a thickness, a corrugation radius, and a length of annular plate as optimal design variables. The external loading conditions include the axial and lateral loads with a boundary condition fixed at an end of the bellows. The recursive quadratic programming algorithm is selected to solve the problem. The result are compared with the existing bellows, and the characteristics of the bellows is investigated through the optimal design process. The optimized shape of the bellows are expected to give quite a good guideline to the practical design.

  • Bellows is a component in piping systems which absorbs mechanical deformation with flexibility. Its geometry is an axial symmetric shell which consists of two toroidal shells and one annular plate or conical shell. In order to analyze bellows, this study presents the finite element analysis using a conical frustum shell element. A finite element analysis is developed to analyze various bellows. The validity of the developed program is verified by the experimental results for axial and lateral stiffness. The formula for calculating the natural frequency of bellows is made by the simple beam theory. The formula for fatigue life is also derived by experiments. The shape optimal design problem is formulated using multiple objective optimization. The multiple objective functions are transformed to a scalar function by weighting factors. The stiffness, strength and specified stiffness are considered as the multiple objective function. The formulation has inequality constraints imposed on the fatigue limit, the natural frequencies, and the manufacturing conditions. Geometric parameters of bellows are the design variables. The recursive quadratic programming algorithm is selected to solve the problem. The results are compared to existing bellows, and the characteristics of bellows is investigated through optimal design process. The optimized shape of bellows is expected to give quite a good guideline to practical design.

차분 위성 항법을 위한 위치영역 필터의 설계 (Design of Kinematic Position-Domain DGNSS Filters)

  • 차분 위성 항법에 있어서 빈번한 동적 변화를 수반하는 항체에 대하여 편향되지 않은 위치 추정치를 생성하기 위해서는 위상 평활화 코드 필터가 널리 사용되고 있다. 위치추정, 오차해석, 고장진단, 그리고 미지정수 결정 등 보정위성항법시스템의 다양한 응용분야에 있어서 정확한 오차공분산 정보는 중요한 역할을 담당한다. 반면, 기존의 위상 평활화 코드 필터 알고리즘들은 대부분 누적위상 측정오차에 의한 시전달 오차를 무시하므로 실재에 비하여 낙관적인 오차공분산 정보를 생성할 위험성을 내포하고 있다. 위상 평활화 코드 기법의 활용에 있어서 일관성 있고 적절한 오차공분산 정보를 생성하기 위하여 본 논문에서는 Stepwise Optimal Position Projection Filter와 Stepwise Unbiased Position Projection Filter 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 제안된 필터는 기존의 필터에 비하여 누적위상의 특성에 기인하는 시전달 오차의 특성을 정확하고 상세하게 고려하여 주며 잦은 가시위성의 변화도 함께 고려할 수 있는 장점을 가진다. 몬테카를로 시뮬레이션에 의하여 수신기 Kalman 필터, 기존의 위상 평활화 코드 필터, 그리고 제안된 두 필터들의 성능을 비교 분석 하였다.

무선 이동 망 환경에서 자원 예약 비용 성능 모델링 (Performance Modeling of Resource Reservation Cost in Wireless/Mobile Networks)

  • 본 논문에서는 HMRSVP(Hierarchicl Mobile ReSource reserVation Protcol)[3,4]에서 확장된 새로운 이동 클러스 기반의 HMRSVP(MC-HMRSVP : Mobile Cluster based HMRSVP) 기법을 제안한다. MC-HMRSVP 는 이동 호스트 (MH : Mobile Host) 가 현재 이동 에이전트(Mobile Agent) 지역에 도착할 경우 해당 지역은 active 예약을 하고 이웃한 MA 는 passive 예약을 한다. 여기서 active MA와 passive MA 지역을 이동 클러스티 (Mobile Cluster) 또는 가상 클러스터라 부른다. MC-HMRSVP는 또한 MH가 다른 MA 로 이동하는 것에 관계없이 GMA(Gateway Mobile Agent) 기능에 의해 이동클러스터를 설정한다. 본 연구에서는 자원 예약 비용 관점에서 기존에 제안되어진 HMRSVP extension 들과 성능 비교를 위해 단순한 재귀 방정식을 이용한 자원 예약 비용 분석 모델을 만들었다. 결과적으로 MC-HMRSVP 기법이 낮은 예약비용을 나타내는 것을 보았다.
