  • This paper discusses a triple stage current source GTO inverter system for high power motor drives. The energy rebound circuit of the triple stage inverter not only controls the spike voltage of the GTO inverter but also facilitates PWM control of the thyristor rectifier operated at unity fundamental input power factor. Based on Pspice simulation and experiments, the principles and PWM pulse pattern for removing specific lower harmonics in the inverter's output current are discussed in detail.

  • In this paper, a power management circuit was designed to drive the emergency lighting LED in the underground facility for public utilities using magnetic energy harvest. The magnetic energy harvest consists of a harvest elements and power management circuits. The proposed circuit was made of a rectifier, a battery charging circuit, and an LED driving circuit. In normal times, the battery is charged with the harvested power, and in the event of an emergency, the energy stored in the battery is used to drive the LED. As a result of the measurement, it took two minutes to charge the 47 mF capacitor. This is the amount of power that can drive an LED for emergency lighting for about three and a half minutes. Through this, it was confirmed that the power management circuit for magnetic energy harvest proposed in this paper can be used as an emergency lighting LED-driven power device in an underground facility for public utilities where it is difficult to draw separate power.

  • In this paper, simple LED driver is proposed. The proposed driver has simple construction having series capacitor, bridge rectifier, and adjustable regulator IC. Constant current control is possible with the use of TL431Z. The proposed in this paper, current is greater than the rating of the load, the current controller device measures the increased current in the circuit, and turned-on so that the current will be shared. Thus current control device makes the circuit more reliable, longevity as well as increase the luminous efficacy of the LED light. The simulation and experimental results are presented to show the validity of the proposed circuits.

  • This paper describes an improved short-circuit protection method with a boost type rectifier using a multilevel ac/dc power converter. The output dc power of the proposed converter can be disconnected from the load within several hundred microseconds at the instant of short-circuit fault. Once the fault has been cleared the dc power is reapplied to the load. The rising time of the dc load voltage is as small as several hundred microseconds, and there is no overshoot of the dc voltage because the dc output capacitors hold undischarged state. The converter, which employs the proposed method, has the characteristics of a simplified structure, reduced cost, weight, and volume compared with a conventional power supply, which has frequent output short-circuits. Experimental results are presented to verify the usefulness of the proposed converter.

  • This paper present an investigation of the influence on the PFC(power factor correction) circuit with characteristics variation of MPP (Molybdenum permalloy powder) core. The experiment results of the 1.5kW class Boost converter for PFC rectifier with the average current mode control are evaluated to verify the influence on the PFC converter with inductance variation of the MPP core. As a results, it is shown that the ripple of the inductor using a MPP core increase with output power of the converter.

  • This paper proposes a novel soft-switching interleaved boost converter composed of two shunted elementary PFC boost conversion units and an auxiliary inductor. This converter is able to turn on both the active power switches at zero voltage to reduce their switching losses and evidently raise the conversion efficiency and power factor. Since the two parallel-operated elementary boost units are identical, operation analysis and design for the converter module becomes quite simple. A laboratory test circuit is built, and the circuit operation shows satisfactory agreement with the theoretical analysis. The performance of the proposed PFC rectifier was evaluated on an experimental 300[W] PFC prototype.

  • This paper describes the inverter driven air-condetioner with power factor correction (PFC) circuit. By adopting PFC in the rectifier, we can reduce harmonic injection into power line, improve the efficiency and lower the total system cost compared to conventional inverter only. Also, system performance is improved by stabilizing the output voltage of PFC. In this paper, detailed design procedures for PFC are given, and the several merits with PFC are verified through the simulation and experiment.

  • This paper proposes a new phase-shift full-bridge DC-DC converter by applying energy recovery circuits to a conventional full-bridge DC-DC converter in plasma display panel applications. The converter can achieve soft-switching in main-switches by an extra auxiliary resonant network even with the wide operating condition of both output load and input voltage. The un-coupled design guidelines to the main bridge-leg component parameters for soft-switching operation contribute to conduction loss reduction in the transformer primary side leading to efficiency improvement. The auxiliary switches in the resonant network also operate in zero-current switching. This paper analyzes the operation modes of the proposed scheme and presents the key design guidelines through steady state analysis. Also, the paper verifies the validity of the circuits by hardware experiments with a 1kW DC/DC converter prototype.
