Panax ginseng (Korea Red Ginseng) repairs diabetic sensorineural damage through promotion of the nerve growth factor pathway in diabetic zebrafish

  • Background: Diabetic sensorineural damage is a complication of the sensory neural system, resulting from long-term hyperglycemia. Red ginseng (RG) has shown efficacy for treatment of various diseases, including diabetes mellitus; however, there is little research about its benefit for treating sensorineural damage. Therefore, we aim to evaluate RG efficacy in alloxan-induced diabetic neuromast (AIDN) zebrafish. Methods: In this study, we developed and validated an AIDN zebrafish model. To assess RG effectiveness, we observed morphological changes in live neuromast zebrafish. Also, zebrafish has been observed to have an ultrastructure of hair-cell cilia under scanning electron microscopy. Thus, we recorded these physiological traits to assess hair cell function. Finally, we confirmed that RG promoted neuromast recovery via nerve growth factor signaling pathway markers. Results: First, we established an AIDN zebrafish model. Using this model, we showed via live neuromast imaging that RG fostered recovery of sensorineural damage. Damaged hair cell cilia were recovered in AIDN zebrafish. Furthermore, RG rescued damaged hair cell function through cell membrane ion balance. Conclusion: Our data suggest that RG potentially facilitates recovery in AIDN zebrafish, and its mechanism seems to be promotion of the nerve growth factor pathway through increased expression of topomyosin receptor kinase A, transient receptor potential channel vanilloid subfamily type 1, and mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphorylation.

폐기물자원회수시설의 이산화탄소 배출계수 개발 (Development of Carbon Dioxide Emission Factor from Resource Recovery Facility)

  • 우리나라는 폐기물의 에너지화를 통해 기후변화와 에너지 부족 문제를 극복하려고 하고 있으며, 폐기물을 에너지화하려는 지속적인 노력에 따라 폐기물 소각처리가 점차 확대되고 있다. 이에 따른 폐기물 소각에서의 온실가스 배출량은 점차 증가할 전망이다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 열 회수를 통해 열과 전력을 생산하는 생활폐기물 소각장을 대상시설로 선정하였다. 대상시설로 선정된 폐기물 소각발전시설에서 배출되는 온실가스 배출량을 산정하기 위한 방법을 모색하고, 온실가스 배출량 및 배출계수를 산정하였다. 대상시설에서의 $CO_2$ 배출농도는 평균 6.99%로 나타났으며, 이를 온실가스 배출량으로 산정한 결과, 총 배출량은 $254.60ton\;CO_2/day$로 나타났다. 바이오매스 소각에 의해 배출된 온실가스를 제외한 순 배출량은 $110.59ton\;CO_2/day$로 나타났다. 또한, 온실가스 배출량을 소각시설에서 생산된 열과 전력으로 구분하여 배출량을 산정한 후, 각각의 생산단위 당 온실가스 배출량으로 온실가스 배출계수를 산정하였다. 산정된 열 배출계수는 $0.047ton\;CO_2/GJ$, 전력 배출계수는 $0.652ton\;CO_2/MWh$로 나타났다. 산정된 전력 배출계수는 화석연료를 사용하는 화력발전소의 전력배출계수인 $0.783ton\;CO_2/MWh$보다 약 17% 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서 산정된 온실가스 배출량 및 배출계수에 중요한 영향을 미치는 요인으로는 폐기물 성상과 화석탄소함량으로 평가된다.

  • Fuzzy controller is one of the succeed controller used in the process control in case of model uncertainties. But it my be difficult to fuzzy controller to articulate the accumulated knowledge to encompass all circumstance. Hence, it is essential to provide a tuning capability. There are many parameters in fuzzy controller can be adapted, scale factor tuning of normalized fuzzy controller is one of the adaptation parameter. Two adaptation methods are implemented in this work on an experimental thermal process, which simulate heating process in liquefied petroleum gases (LPG) recovery process in one of petrochemical industries: Gradient decent (GD) adaptation method; supervisory fuzzy controller. A comparison between the two methods is discussed.

Au/YBCO 박막의 안정성 해석 (Stability analysis of Au/YBCO film)

  • One dimensional conduction equation is solved by finite difference method, to analyse the stability of Au/YBCO film deposited on a sapphire substrate. Jolue heat is included in the case of current sharing state. The analysis shows the quench and recovery of superconductor depending on the amount of thermal disturbance release on the center surface of superconductor. The critical disturbance energies for different filling factor and operating current are calculated.

  • The introduction of electricity industry provides generators incentives to recover the related cost through the market. Hence, the generator should sell his/her electricity at high market-clearing price with optimal operation of his/her power plant. The maintenance of power plant is the most critical factor in affecting generators' decision-making. This paper analyzes technique for establishing maintenance schedule reflecting recovery cost and considers differences in monthly load pattern in minimizing LOLP.

산후 여성의 기능 상태에 관한 연구 (A Study on Functional Status after Childbirth under the Sanhujori)

  • This study sought to figure out women's functional status after childbirth under the Sanhujori. Functioal status was defined as the women's readiness to assume infant care responsibilities and resume her usual activities including household, social and community, self-care and occupational activity. A convenience sample of 211 women who are in the postpartal period of the range from 1 week to 3 months above and residing in Seoul. Korea was studied from January, 1997 to December, 1998 for two years. Mean age of respondents was 29.9 years and mean of the present postpartal period was 7.5 weeks. The present postpartal period was of 5-8 weeks 26.5%, 3-4weeks 26.1%, 9-12 week 23.7% and below 2 weeks 7.1%, 32.7% of women had a job and the mean period of return to job was 2.76 weeks. During Sanhujori the non professional care giver was family members from women's maiden home 73.5% and only 2% of husband. The period women needed for the recovery from now was 5.39 weeks and it means that women need 12.9weeks for recovery after childbirth. For the present subjective health status after childbirth, bad was 20.2%, good 18.3 and average 61.5% and for the recovery status, completely recovered 29.5%, slightly 61.8% and rarely 8.7%. The mean of functional status at the 7.5weeks was baby care activity 3.65, household 2.57, self-care 2.46, occupational 2.44 and social 1.53 in rank. Except baby care the functional status was generally low or very low. The related factors to the functional status were the period and subjective evaluation of Sanhujori women experienced, the present period of postpartum, and subjective feeling of recovery. This result strongly reflects the effects of Sanhujori culture and Sanhujori per se on women's postpartal life including functional status and reconfirmed the relationship between health status and the experience of Sanhujori after delivery as the previous findings from various study showed. It provides a challenge to the professional care givers to research further on the effects of Sanhujori on the health status, health recovery after abortion or delivery from the various aspects through the cross-sectional and longitudinal research for the refinement of the reality of Sanhujori not only as cultural phenomenon but as an inseparable factor influencing in women's postpartal healthy adaptation and for the appropriateness of intervention and quality of care for desirable health outcome.

응급실 도착 전 심정지 환자의 자발순환 회복 여부에 미치는 요인 -2012~2016 의무기록 자료를 중심으로- (Factors Affecting Recovery of Spontaneous Circulation in Patients Before Cardiac Arrest in Emergency Department: 2012~2016 Focused on Medical Records Data)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 5년간(2012년~2016년) 응급실 도착 전 심정지 환자의 자발순환회복 여부를 파악하고, 이에 미치는 요인을 규명하기 위하여 시도하였다. 이 연구는 우리나라 전국을 대상으로 2012~2016년 '질병관리본부'에서 실시한 '급성심장정지조사 원시자료'를 주 자료로 사용하였다. 2012년부터 2016년 5년간의 국가 심장정지 조사 자료 중 심장정지 환자 136,212명을 분석 대상으로 하였다. 일반적 특성, 사회·인구학적 특성, 발생관련 특성에 따른 응급실 도착 전 자발순환 회복 여부를 파악하기 위해 교차분석을 하였고, 자발순환 회복 여부에 미치는 요인을 분석하고자 이분형 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 응급실 도착 전 자발순환 회복 여부에 미치는 요인은 응급실 도착전 심폐소생술 지속 이송 여부, 응급실 도착 전 급성심장정지 목격 여부, 일반인 심폐소생술 시행 종류, 급성심장정지 발생 장소, 급성심장정지 발생 원인이었다(P<0.001, P<0.01). 그러므로, 심정지 환자의 자발순환 회복에 영향을 미치는 요인을 중심으로 체계적인 정부의 보건정책 시행과 대중적인 보건교육을 강화해야 할 것이다.

자유낙하식 시료채취기(Free Fall Grab)와 상자형 퇴적물시료 채취기(Box Corer)를 이용한 망간단괴 부존밀도 보정상수에 관한 고찰 (Examination of Correction Factor for Manganese Nodule Abundance Using the Free Fall Grab and Box Corer)

  • 자유낙하식 시료채취기(Free Fall Grab, FFG)를 이용하여 산출한 망간단괴의 부존밀도는 보정이 필요하다. 그 이유는 FFG로 망간단괴를 채취할 때 해저면에 부존되어 있는 망간단괴의 실제 양 보다 적은 양만이 채취되는 것으로 알려져 있기 때문이다. 지난 1994년과 2002년에 각각 1.29와 1.13의 망간단괴 부존밀도 보정상수가 제시된 바 있으며, 이는 주로 해저면 영상자료의 분석을 통해 이루어 졌다. 이 연구에서는 동일한 정점에서 FFG와 상자형 시료채취기(Box Corer, BC)를 이용하여 회수한 망간단괴의 부존밀도를 비교하여 기존에 제시된 망간단괴 부존밀도 보정상수와 비교하였다. 그 결과 FFG를 이용한 망간단괴의 회수율이 BC에 비하여 낮으며, 그 차이는 약 1.4배로 기존의 보정상수에 비해 훨씬 더 크게 나타났다. 따라서 향후 추가 시료 획득과 해저면 영상분석의 개선을 통해 기존의 망간단괴 부존밀도 보정식을 재산정할 필요성이 제기된다.

  • A new soft switching single stage AC-DC full bridge boost converter with unit input power factor and isolated output is presented. Due to using of the non-dissipative snubber in the primary side, a single stage high-power factor isolated full bridge boost converter has a significant reduction of switching losses in main switching devices and output rectifiers of the primary and secondary side, respectively. The non-dissipative snubber adopted in this study is consisted of a snubber capacitor C. and a snubber inductor $L_r$, a fast recovery snubber diode $D_r$, a commutation diode $D_p$. This paper presents the complete operating principles, theoretical analysis and simulation results.
