Graceful Degradation FEC Layer for Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service in LTE Mobile Systems

  • This paper proposes an additional forward error correction (FEC) layer to compensate for the defectiveness inherent in the conventional FEC layer in the Long Term Evolution specifications. The proposed additional layer is called a graceful degradation (GD)-FEC layer and maintains desirable service quality even under burst data loss conditions of a few seconds. This paper also proposes a non-delayed decoding (NDD)-GD-FEC layer that is inherent in the decoding process. Computer simulations and device-based tests show a better loss recovery performance with a negligible increase in CPU utilization and occupied memory size.

  • This paper reports a novel gas sensing method by using a thermoelectric device, thermopile in this case, with an embedded tin oxide catalyst. By using a thin catalyst film, the response time and recovery time were remarkably improved. The fabricated gas sensor was characterized through detecting NOx gas with various concentrations.

Efficiency Improvement of Organic Solar Cells Using Two-step Annealing Technique

  • The fullerene solar cells are becoming a feasible choice due to the advanced developments in donor materials and improved fabrication techniques of devices. Recently, sufficient optimization and improvements in the processing techniques like incorporation of solvent vapor annealing (SVA) with additives in solvents has become a major cause of prominent improvements in the performance of organic solar cell-based devices . On the other hand, the challenge of reduced open circuit voltage (Voc) remains. This study presents an approach for significant performance improvement of overall device based on organic small molecular solar cells (SMSCs) by following a two step technique that comprises thermal annealing (TA) and SVA (abbreviated as SVA+TA). In case of exclusive use of SVA, reduction in Voc can be eliminated in an effective way. The characteristics of charge carriers can be determined by the measurement of transient photo-voltage (TPV) and transient photo-current (TPC) that determines the scope for improvement in the performance of device by two step annealing. The recovery of reduced Voc is linked with the necessary change in the dynamics of charge that lead to increased overall performance of device. Moreover, SVA and TA complement each other; therefore, two step annealing technique is an appropriate way to simultaneously improve the parameters such as Voc, fill factor (FF), short circuit current density (Jsc) and PCE of small molecular solar cells.

  • This experiment was carried out to develop the anesthetic methods for ultrasonography and a new simplified disposable needle guidance device for ovum pick-up(OPU) in cows. Three different anesthetic methods were applied as. 1) epidural analgesia only with 2% lidocaine(20~30 ml), 2) epidural analgesia with 2% under general sedation with xylazine, 3) epidural analgesia with 2% lidocaine under general sedation with detomidine. We evaluated the anesthetic effects with items such as relaxation of anal sphincter, tail movement and rectal wall, retractability of both ovaries, additional anesthesia and possibility of OPU. Through this experiment, the above three anesthetic methods were applicable to OPU, but the epidural anlagesia under general sedation with detomldine was most effective for OPU. We developed a new disposable needle guidance device with stainless steel tube. With this, disposable needles can be easily attatchable to any other intravaginal probes. And also, it was found to he practical, economic and effective for OPU with the recovery rate of 51.2%.

피에조 액츄에이터 구동용 에너지 회수형 인버터의 특성과 구동 기법 연구 (A Study on Characteristics and Driving Techniques of Energy Recovery Type Inverter for Piezo Actuator Drive)

  • Piezo devices have large power density and simple structure compared with conventional electrical motors. Thus they can generate larger forces than the conventional actuators with small size. Their resopnses to commands are also very fast and thus the bandwidths are very wide. Thus the piezo devices are expected to be used widely in the future for actuating devices requiring fast response and large actuating force with small size. However, the piezo actuators need high voltage with high driving current due to their large capacitive property. In this paper, proposed is a simple method to drive piezo devices using voltage inversion circuit with coli inductance. The coil inductance carries the charges in the piezo device to the opposite side, inverting the polarity of the applied voltage, thus saving the power to drive the device with AC voltages. Experiments with real circuit demonstrates that the proposed scheme can improve the energy efficiency very much.

Development of Methane Gas Sensor by Various Powder Preparation Methods

  • After $SnO_2$ fine powder by precipitation method, Ca as crystallization inhibitor and Pd as catalyst were added to $SnO_2$ raw material by various methods. Thick film device was fabricated on the alumina substrate by mixing ethylene glycol and such mixed powders. The sensing characteristics of the device for methane gas were investigated. The most excellent gas sensing property was shown by the thick film device fabricated by Method 3 in which Ca and Pd doped $SnO_2$ powder is prepared by mixing $SnO_2$ powder, 0.1 wt% Ca acetate and 1 wt% $PdCl_2$ in deionized water and by calcining the mixture, after $Sn(OH)_4$ is dried at $110^{\circ}C$ for 36h. The sensitivity of the sensor fabricated with $SnO_2$-0.1 wt%Ca acetate-1wt%$PdCl_2$ powder heat-treated at $700^{\circ}C$ for 1h was about 86% for 5,000 ppm methane in air at $350^{\circ}C$ of the operating temperature. Response time and recovery were also excellent.

  • The emergence of high voltage conversion applications has resulted in a trend of using semiconductor device series associations. Series associations allow for operation at blocking voltages, which are higher than the nominal voltage for each of the semiconductor devices. The main challenge with these topologies is finding a way to guarantee the voltage balance between devices in both blocking and switching transients. Most of the methods that have been proposed to mitigate static and dynamic voltage unbalances result in increased losses within the device. This paper introduces a new series stack topology, where the voltage unbalances are reduced. This in turn, mitigates the switching losses. The proposed topology consists of a circuit that ensures the soft switching of each device, and one auxiliary circuit that allows for switching energy recovery. The principle for the topology operation is presented and experimental tests are performed for two modules. The topology performs excellently for switching transients on each of the devices. The voltage static unbalances were limited to 10%, while the activation/deactivation delay introduced by the lower module IGBT driver takes place in the dynamic unbalances. Thus, the switching losses are reduced by 40%, when compared to hard switching configurations.

안드로이드 기반의 유증기 액화장치 모니터링 시스템 구현 (The implementation of liquefaction equipment monitoring system based on Android)

  • VOCs(Volatile Organic Compounds)의 대부분은 유해물질로 대기 오염뿐만 아니라 지구 온난화의 원인물질로 작용하고 있다. 이로 인해 VOCs는 국가마다 배출을 줄이기 위해 정책적으로 관리되고 있다. 특히, 주유소에서 발생하는 유증기는 발암물질인 벤젠 등 인체에 유해하며 환경부에서 연료 주유 시 발생하는 휘발성 유기화합물을 회수할 수 있도록 유증기 회수장치 설치를 의무화하고 있다. 최근에는 기존의 유증기 처리 방식을 발전시켜 폭발이나 화재 등을 방지하기 위하여 유증기를 냉각시켜 현장에서 바로 회수하도록 하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 위험성이 존재하는 액화기의 상태를 실시간으로 모니터링 할 수 있도록 유증기 액화장치에 센서를 부착하여 액화기 측정 정보를 모니터링 할 수 있는 모니터링 서버 및 안드로이드 기반의 모니터링 앱 어플리케이션을 개발하여 원격관리 서비스 모델을 제시하고자 한다.

  • 휘발성 메모리를 이용하는 데이터베이스 관리 시스템은 시스템 고장에 대비한 데이타 보호를 위한 회복 기능을 가진다. 이러한 회복 기능은 트랜잭션 처리를 위한 시스템 의 부담을 가중시키고 있으며 시스템 성능 저하의 주요 요인이 되고 있다. 최근 반도체 기술의 발달로 인하여 비휘발성 메모리가 등장하게 되었고, 비휘발성 메모리인 FeRAM(Ferroelectronic Random Access Memory)을 이용하여 데이타베이스 관리시스템 이 안고 있는 트랜잭션 처리 및 회복을 위한 부담을 감소시키는 연구가 계속되고 있다.그러나 기존의 이중면 FeRAM 데이터베이스 특성인 작은 단위 로킹을 제공하지 못하는 문제를 가진다. 본 논문에서는을 해결하기 위해 이중면FeRAM(Dual plane FeRAM:DFeRAM)의 구조를 제안한다 또한 이중면FeRAM을 적용한 시스템에 대해 그림자 페이지 기법을 기반으로 하는 회복 알고리즘을 제안하고 제안된 기법과 기존 기법과의 성능을 분석한다.

위성의 Dual-Spin Turn 방법 분석 및 자세획득 (Investigation of Dual-Spin Turn and Attitude Acquisition of Satellite)

  • 인공위성에서 자세획득을 위해 기동을 하거나 이상상태 발생으로 위성이 임무를 수행하지 못하여 결국에 위성을 잃어버리게 되는 Flat Spin 상태에서 자세를 복구하는 방안인 Dual Spin Turn의 원리에 대한 연구가 수행되었다. Dual Spin Turn 현상에서 중요한 모멘텀 전달 원리를 물리적으로 명확하게 설명하였다. 그리고 기존의 연구결과에서 많이 알려진 방법을 포함하여 일반적인 위성의 관성모멘트 조건과 모멘텀 휠의 회전 방향 등을 여러 가지로 변화시켜 보면서 타당성을 검증하였다. Dual Spin Turn 과정은 개루프 제어와 에너지 감쇄장치의 도입이라는 2단계 제어방법을 이용하여 여러 경우에 대해 시뮬레이션으로 분석해보았다. 또한 제어의 타당성을 입증하기 위해 2단계 제어 이후의 안정성에 대해 검증하였다. 그리고 Dual Spin Turn을 이용하여 Flat Spin Recovery를 수행하는 시나리오를 예제로 제시하였다.
