  • The rapid growth of blog has caused information overload where bloggers in the virtual community space are no longer able to effectively choose the blogs they are exposed to. Recommender systems have been widely advocated as a way of coping with the problem of information overload in e-business environment. Collaborative Filtering (CF) is the most successful recommendation method to date and used in many of the recommender systems. In this research, we propose a CF-based recommender system for bloggers to find their similar bloggers or preferable virtual community without burdensome search effort. For such a purpose, we apply the "Interest Value" to CF recommender systems. The Interest Value is the quantity value about users' transaction data in virtual community, and can measure the opinion of users accurately. Based on the Interest Value, the neighborhood group is generated, and virtual community list is recommended using the Community Likeness Score (ClS). Our experimental results upon real data of Korean Blog site show that the methodology is capable of dealing with the information overload issue in virtual community space. And Interest Value is proved to have the potential to meet the challenge of recommendation methodologies in virtual community space.

  • Collaborative filtering is one of the most successfully used methods for recommender systems and has been utilized in various areas such as books and music. The key point of this method is selecting the most proper recommenders, for which various similarity measures have been studied. To improve recommendation performance, this study analyzes problems of existing recommender selection methods based on similarity and presents a method of dynamically determining recommenders based on the rate of co-rated items as well as similarity. Examination of performance with varying thresholds through experiments revealed that the proposed method yielded greatly improved results in both prediction and recommendation qualities, and that in particular, this method showed performance improvements with only a few recommenders satisfying the given thresholds.

  • The purchase of items in e-commerce is a little bit different from that of items in off-line. The recommendation of items in off-line is conducted by salespersons' recommendation, However, the item recommendation in e-commerce cannot be recommended by salespersons, and so different types of methods can be recommended in e-commerce. Recommender system is a method which recommends items in e-commerce. Preferences of customers who want to purchase new items can be predicted by the preferences of customers purchasing existing items. In the recommender system, the items with estimated high preferences can be recommended to customers. The algorithm of collaborative filtering is used in recommender system of e-commerce, and the list of recommended items is made by estimated values, and then the list is recommended to customers. The dataset used in this research are 100k dataset and 1 million dataset in Movielens dataset. Similar results in two dataset are deducted for generalization. To suggest a new algorithm, distribution features of estimated values are analyzed by the existing algorithm and transformed algorithm. In addition, respondent'distribution features are analyzed respectively. To improve the collaborative filtering algorithm in neighborhood recommender system, a new algorithm method is suggested on the basis of existing algorithm and transformed algorithm.

  • Contents Recommender System predicts user's preferences towards contents, and then recommends highly-predicted contents to user. Digital Identifier plays its part in identifying abstract works or digital contents in digital network environment. Digital Identifier could be effectively used in content-based filtering and collaborative filtering that are mainly used in Contents Recommender Systems. Therefore, this paper proposes an improvement of UCI metadata and resolution service for effective use of UCI in massive contents recommender systems. UCI metadata is expanded by adding elements such as abstract, keyword, genre, age, rate and review. Resolution service allows the operation systems to collect user preference for content by including input part of preference in a result page. This paper also designs and implements an improved UCI operation system and shows that the proposed improvement of UCI metadata and resolution service could be used for massive contents recommendation.

  • Article-related product recommender system is an emerging e-commerce service which recommends items based on association in contexts between items and articles. Current services recommend based on the similarity between tags of articles and items, which is deficient not only due to the high cost in manual tagging but also low accuracies in recommendation. As a component of novel article-related item recommender system, we propose a new method for tagging item images based on pre-defined categories. We suggest a hypernetwork-based algorithm for learning association between images, which is represented by visual words, and categories of products. Learned hypernetwork are used to assign multiple tags to unlabeled item images. We show the ability of our method with a product set of real-world online shopping-mall including 1,251 product images with 10 categories. Experimental results not only show that the proposed method has competitive tagging performance compared with other classifiers but also present that the proposed multi-tagging method based on hypernetworks improves the accuracy of tagging.

  • We are developing a web-based movie recommender system that catches and reasons with user profiles and ratings to recommend movies. In the paper, we outline the current status of our implementation with particular emphasis on the mechanisms used to provide effective recommendations. Social recommender systems collect ratings of items from many individuals and use nearest-neighbor techniques to make recommendations to a user. However, these methods only depend on the ratings and ignore other useful information. Our primary concern is to provide an approach that can recommend the movies based on not only the user ratings but also the significant amount of other information that is available about the nature of each items - such as cast list or movie genre. We experimentally evaluate our approach and compare them to conventional social filtering, which suggests merits to our approach.

  • Recommender Systems have gained immense popularity due to their capability of dealing with a massive amount of information in various domains. They are considered information filtering systems that make predictions or recommendations to users based on their interests and preferences. The more recent technology, Linked Open Data (LOD), has been introduced, and a vast amount of Resource Description Framework data have been published in freely accessible datasets. These datasets are connected to form the so-called LOD cloud. The need for semantic data representation has been identified as one of the next challenges in Recommender Systems. In a LOD-enabled recommendation framework where domain awareness plays a key role, the semantic information provided in the LOD can be exploited. However, dealing with a big chunk of the data from the LOD cloud and its integration with any domain datasets remains a challenge due to various issues, such as resource constraints and broken links. This paper presents the challenges of interconnecting and extracting the DBpedia data with the MovieLens 1 Million dataset. This study demonstrates how LOD can be a vital yet rich source of content knowledge that helps recommender systems address the issues of data sparsity and insufficient content analysis. Based on the challenges, we proposed a few alternatives and solutions to some of the challenges.

  • The recommender system (RS) has emerged as a solution to overcome the constraints of excessive information provision and to maximize profit and reputation for information providers. Although the RS can be implemented with various approaches, there is no study on how to appropriately utilize the information generated from the review of the recommended object. We propose a method to improve the performance of RS by using cluster information generated from online review. We implemented the proposed method and experimented with real data, and confirmed that the performance is significantly improved compared to the existing approaches.

  • With the development of the e-commerce market, various types of products continue to be released. However, customers face an information overload problem in purchasing decision-making. Therefore, personalized recommendations have become an essential service in providing personalized products to customers. Recently, many studies on GCN-based recommender systems have been actively conducted. Such a methodology can address the limitation in disabling to effectively reflect the interaction between customer and product in the embedding process. However, previous studies mainly use implicit feedback data to conduct experiments. Although implicit feedback data improves the data scarcity problem, it cannot represent customers' preferences for specific products. Therefore, this study proposed a novel model combining explicit and implicit feedback to address such a limitation. This study treats the average ratings of customers and products as the features of customers and products and converts them into a high-dimensional feature vector. Then, this study combines ID embedding vectors and feature vectors in the embedding layer to learn the customer-product interaction effectively. To evaluate recommendation performance, this study used the MovieLens dataset to conduct various experiments. Experimental results showed the proposed model outperforms the state-of-the-art. Therefore, the proposed model in this study can provide an enhanced recommendation service for customers to address the information overload problem.
