The purpose of this study is to propose criteria for selecting picture books as various reading education materials for middle school students and to check whether it can be applied to book selection. First, identified the educational value of picture books as reading materials and the criteria for selecting picture books by academic field through previous studies. After integrating the commonalities of various picture book selection criteria presented in previous studies by categorizing them into illustrations, text, and other categories. And it devised selection criteria that can be applied after selecting middle school students as readers. Based on the unified picture book selection criteria, a survey was conducted to ask in-service librarians about the main criteria to consider when selecting picture books for middle school students, and intensive interviews were conducted with experts who have experience in picture book education. As a result, the picture book selection criteria from previous studies were revised and supplemented with two criteria related to text, four criteria related to pictures, and five other criteria, and presented as picture book selection criteria for middle school students. To verify the practicality of the picture book selection criteria, it checked the applicability of each category of criteria to picture books recommended by the Children's Book Research Society (ages 13 and older). Out of 22 picture books for middle school students, 15 books could be applied to all categories of the selection criteria, showing significant practicality.

Many readers tend to read books of a specific author and to expand their reading areas according to the author. This study chose Edgar Allan Poe and analyzed the image of the author using co-recommended authors and books by other readers. The frequencies of co-occurred authors and books were investigated and the relations of authors and books were analyzed with network analysis methods. As a result, genre images of Poe, related authors, and related books are discovered. This study also suggested the methods to identify the image of a author, related author groups, and related books for libraries' reading programs and book curation.

This study analyzes the spectrum of recommended books for adults included in the bibliotherapy book lists commonly used in libraries and organizations in the UK, US, and Korea. While the recommended book lists in the UK and US retain a diverse range of books relevant to the practitioners' needs, the Korean bibliotherapy book lists are mostly made up of non-fiction self-help books regardless of where the bibliotherapy service is provided. In the subcategory of the bibliotherapy book lists in the UK and US, aside from fictions, books on "health, fitness, dieting" including medical books rank higher than any other kind, which shows that bibliotherapy claims to have therapeutic effects in those organizations. In Korean bibliotherapy book lists, on the other hand, so-called "psychology books impregnated with self-help ideology" take up more than 60%. With the prospect of bibliotherapy as an interdisciplinary practice in mind, I suggest that bibliotherapy should draw upon the insights from humanities in order to help participants have time for deep introspection and attain inner maturity rather than just try to restore their normal conditions before the crisis.

The content curation service through big data analysis is receiving great attention in various content fields, such as film, game, music, and book. This service recommends personalized contents to the corresponding user based on user's preferences. The existing book curation systems recommended books to users by using bibliographic citation, user profile or user log data. However, these systems are difficult to recommend books related to character names or spatio-temporal information in text contents. Therefore, in this paper, we suggest a personalized book curation system based on integrated mining of a book. The proposed system consists of mining system, recommendation system, and visualization system. The mining system analyzes book text, user information or profile, and SNS data. The recommendation system recommends personalized books for users based on the analysed data in the mining system. This system can recommend related books using based on book keywords even if there is no user information like new customer. The visualization system visualizes book bibliographic information, mining data such as keyword, characters, character relations, and book recommendation results. In addition, this paper also includes the design and implementation of the proposed mining and recommendation module in the system. The proposed system is expected to broaden users' selection of books and encourage balanced consumption of book contents.

Subject headings support the effective access of children's picture books. However, it is difficult to select subject terms from titles or table of contents in children's picture books because of their relatively little textual information. Therefore, it is necessary to assign subject terms to each picture book. However, it is not adequate to use general subject headings because the types and levels of general subject headings are different from special subject headings for the children's materials. For this reason, this study aims to develop subject headings for children's picture books. The subject terms in A to Zoo were selected, and the selected terms were translated into Korean and modified for the Korean culture and language. Other reference books, such as Elementary Korean Dictionary, were also used to determine adequate terms for children. The resulting subject headings were assigned to the recommended picture books for children and used to search by subject, browse, and recommend books.

This study was implemented to suggest various indicators of collection evaluation for collection development policy in public libraries. For the sake of the exploratory research, this study tried to show the usability of indicators of collection evaluation through actual data of a case study. Also to analyze indicators of collection evaluation, this study used the ten years circulation records of the Gwangjin District Public Library in Seoul. Majors indicators of collection evaluation were the rate of use and use factor of purchasing books by annual, the rate of use and use factor of librarian's recommended books by annual, the rate of non circulating books by annual, and the rate of use by residence annually.

The purpose of this study is to present the theoretical basis and quantified objective standards for the establishment of collection management policy. The study results are summarized as follows. Most of the study books were in the form of periodicals as a steady seller. Most of the steady sellers were textbooks which published periodically. As a modern novel, a steady seller was able to confirm the phenomenon of dependence on a specific author. Bestsellers were investigated to be influenced by publishers and authors. Books of publishers that publish comics and children's textbooks had a significant correlation with the selection of bestsellers. The average number of recommended books borrowed per recommended book was 14,871. The average number of loans per book selected as a bestseller was 53,531. Based on the loan data, about 80-82% of all top-tier loans were covered by 90%, and about 27-29% of all top-ranked loans were covered by 50%. This shows that the Pareto Principle can be firmly applied to public library lending patterns. Loans in the field of literature accounted for 50.6% of the total loans. Among literature, Korean literature accounted for 51.3% of the total. The natural sciences were generating more loans with a relatively small pool of literature compared to other subject fields.

Recommended book lists make 'a good book' known and help choose the books. Currently, the recommended book lists published by various institutions are primarily used as the selection tool for choosing children's and young adults' book in many libraries and schools. Considering this reality, I examined the present production condition of the recommended book lists and evaluated whether they were suitable as a selection tool. Afterwards, I suggested the development methods about how the recommended book lists will be developed for them to function as a selection tool.

The purpose of this study is to propose a personalized book recommendation system to promote the use of university libraries. In particular, unlike many recommended services that are based on existing users' preferences, this study proposes a method that derive evaluation metrics using individual users' book rental history and tendencies, which can be an effective alternative when users' preferences are not available. This study suggests models using two matrix decomposition methods: Singular Value Decomposition(SVD) and Stochastic Gradient Descent(SGD) that recommend books to users in a way that yields an expected preference score for books that have not yet been read by them. In addition, the model was implemented using a user-based collaborative filtering algorithm by referring to book rental history of other users that have high similarities with the target user. Finally, user evaluation was conducted for the three models using the derived evaluation metrics. Each of the three models recommended five books to users who can either accept or reject the recommendations as the way to evaluate the models.

With the introduction of 'Reading One Book a Semester' in the 2015 curriculum, more and more activities are being done to read the same books on a classroom basis. Accordingly, librarians need to properly support the teacher's book recommendation and book selection process, which consists of classes. This study aims to establish effective school library services based on this by identifying differences in elementary school students' reading interests when reading a book recommended by a teacher in the class. To this end, all students of A Elementary School were given a book selection class by class to select one of the teacher's recommended books, and students were interested in reading before and after reading. As a result, students who read the books they chose showed higher 'interest after reading' than those who read the books they did not choose. However, students who had high 'interest before reading' even though they read books they did not choose showed high 'interest after reading'. 'Interest before reading' were higher for students who were provided with book information evenly and used the school library more frequently. Therefore, librarians need to provide a variety of book information and services to increase the frequency of school library use to increase 'interest before reading', which positively affects self-selective reading.
