Font Recommendation System based on User Evaluation of Font Attributes

  • The visual impact of fonts on lots of documents and design work is significant. Accordingly, the users desire to appropriately use fonts suitable for their intention. However, existing font recommendation programs are difficult to consider what users want. Therefore, we propose a font recommendation system based on user-evaluated font attribute value. The properties of a font are called attributes. In this paper, we propose a font recommendation module that recommends a user 's desired font using the attributes of the font. In addition, we classify each attribute into three types of usage, personality, and shape, suggesting the font that is closest to the desired font, and suggest an optimal font recommendation algorithm. In addition, weights can be set for each use, personality, and shape category to increase the weight of each category, and when a weight is used, a more suitable font can be recommended to the user.

  • A high speed frame synchronization system has been realized which generates the frame sync clock from 565Mb/s data stream (the DS-5 digital multiplex hierarchy signal). The design of a frame pattern detector using a parallel detection method brings into low speed operation and resolves the problems due to the high speed operation. The frame synchronization algorithm recommended by CCITT is also realized by designing a sync mode controller. Appropriate design procedures are considered for an efficient hardware design and minimized connection lines. The CAD simulation as well as experiment show that the performance of the newly designed frame synchronization system satisfies the relevant requirements.

  • Linear displacement accuracy is one of the most important factors that determine machine tool accuracy. The laser interferometer has been usually recommended for the measurement of linear displacement accuracy. In this paper, microcomputer aided measurement and compensation system has been developed forthe pitch error in a CNC machine tool. For accurate pitch error calculation, the analysis code for the pitch error has been also implemented according to the international standards(ISO). The PC based automatic compensation system for the pitch error is also implemented. A new algorithm for calculating optimum value for pitch error compensation is proposed, minimizing the deviation at each target points. The development system has been applied to a practical CNC maching center and the performance has been demonstrated.

Adaptive rate control scheme for very low bit rate video coding (초고속 전송 매체용 비디오 코딩을 위한 적응적 비트율 제어에 관한 연구)

  • In video coding systems, an effective rate control method is one of the most improtant issues for the good video quality. This paper presents an adaptive rate control scheme based on the buffer fullness, quantization, and buffer utilization for very low bit rate communication lines, such as 16kbit/s, 24bit/s, and so on. The strategy is implemented on H.263, whichis a vide coding algorithm for narrow band telecommunication channels up to 64kbit/s recommended by ITU-T SG15, to show the effectiveness. The simulation result shows that the suggested rate control scheme has better SNR performance and buffer utilization of source coder than those of linear and non-linear[9] buffer control strategies.

TCP-friendly RTP Rate Control

  • TCP is taking over 95% among the Internet traffics. Recently the demands of multimedia services in the Internet has been increasing. These multimedia services mostly need real-time deliverly, and then RTP has been a de facto to transmission protocol for these real-time multimedia services. RTP uses UDP as its underlying transport protocol, and thus it does not support any rate and congestion control. Thus, for fair use of the Internet bandwidth with TCP traffics. RTP also needs a rate control. One constraint of RTP is that the feedback information(delivered by, RTP's twin protocol, RTCP) is recommended to be sent no less than 5 seconds. In this paper, we propose a TCP-friendly RTP rate control which use only RTCP feedback information at every 5 seconds. The experiment results show that our proposed algorithm works. But, it is found that we need more time to test the effects of parameters and policies of the algorithms, which will be reported later.

  • In this paper, a novel topology for cascade multilevel converter is introduced, which has many levels with fewer number of power electronic components. Less number of the switches leads to the reduction of size, losses, simple control strategy and high efficiency. For proposed multilevel converter, a new algorithm for determination of dc voltage source values has been recommended. The performance and operation of the proposed multilevel converter has been evaluated with the simulation results of a cascade 25-level converter.

  • It is an essential design process to analyze the performance of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) processor before implementation. The contribution of this paper is to identify the chief sources and types of errors, to assess their impact on system performance, and to suggest the analysis technique for principal performance of the space-based SAR processor using Range-Doppler Algorithm (RDA). Also, simulation is performed by the Experimental-SAR (E-SAR) processor to examine the practicability and efficiency of the technique, the results are discussed, and solutions for the problems are recommended. Therefore, this technique can be used to analyze the performance of the space-based SAR processor using RDA.

  • The flow and heat transfer characteristics for three-dimensional mixed convection flows in a radiator flat tube with U--shaped grooves are analyzed numerically. The flow and temperature fields are calculated by using the modified SIMPLE algorithm for irregular geometry. One tube specification among the various flat tube exchangers is recommended by considering the heat transfer and pressure drop. The effects of variation of coolant flow conditions and external air conditions on the flow and the thermal characteristics for the selected tube are investigated. the results show that inlet velocity of coolant flow is the very important factor in heat transfer and pressure drop, and top side is better position than the others as fin cleave to tube.

  • The beam direction of the 3-D phase array ship-borne radar is changed according to ship motion such as a pitch and roll variation. To align beam direction, under this circumstance, mechanical or electronic stabilization should be adopted. Considering weight and volume of radar, method of electronic stabilization is recommended. In this paper, method of electronic stabilization is proposed and the results are shown by computer simulation.

  • As the research of wireless personal area network (WPAN) is more activated, various communication systems operating on 2.4Ghz are being developed. Systems such as Bluetooth, 802.11b, Zigbee and DBO-CSS are operating on 2.4Ghz. In addition to these communication systems, microwave oven resides in 2.4Ghz, so co-existance between each of these communication systems and microwave Oven is considered important factor of system performance. The effect of microwave oven on these communication systems is so critical that these systems are recommended to avoid the impact of microwave oven by allocation of different channel. In this paper, based on the DBO-CSS operating on 2.4Ghz, we propose a new algorithm of reducing the effect of microwave oven to develop robust communication system against microwave oven.
