The apple stem grooving virus (ASGV) is one of the most harmful latent viruses infecting pear orchards worldwide. To examine the genetic diversity of ASGV in Korean pear orchards, the complete coat protein (CP) gene of five ASGV isolates collected from various regions were identified. The five Korean ASGV isolates showed 88-96% nucleotide identity with the 11 isolates worldwide occurring elsewhere in the world. Phylogenetic analysis of five isolates, as well as the previously sequenced isolates, indicated that the ASGV clusters had no correlation with the host or geographical regions of origin. Recombination analysis showed that one of the five Korean isolates is a recombinant, with a recombination site in the CP gene region (nt 532-708). This study is the first report of natural recombination within the CP gene of ASGV isolates from pears grown in Korea.

The analysis of the full length genome of Korean isolates of Pepper mottle virus (PepMoV) in previous study showed molecular variations and are found to be related to symptom variation and pathogenicity (Kim et al., 2009, Virus Res. 144:83-88). To fully understand the molecular variation of PepMoV in Korea, we further assessed the role of RNA recombination to biological variation and evolution of PepMoV. Full-length genome of a total of 17 Korean-PepMoV and 2 American (CA and FL) isolates were examined for possible detection of genetic recombination using different recombination detections programs and detected 5 and 8 tentative recombination events using RDP3 and Splits Tree4 programs, respectively. Interestingly, tentative recombinants detected such as isolates 57, 134 and 217 were previously identified as severe isolates and 205135 and 205136 as differentiating isolates (Kim et al., 2009, Virus Res. 144:83-88). In addition, recombination was frequently detected in the Vb isolate, the first PepMoV isolate reported in Korea, suggesting significant involvement in the evolution of PepMoV in Korea. These initial results of our recombination analyses among PepMoV isolates in Korea may serve as clues to further investigate the biological variations and evolution of PepMoV brought about by recombination.
Grapevine rupestris stem pitting-associated virus (GRSPaV) is a worldwide-distributed pathogen in grapevines with a high genetic variability. Our study revealed differences in the complexity of GRSPaV population in a single host. A single-variant GRSPaV infection was detected from the SK30 grapevine plant. On the contrary, SK704 grapevine was infected by three different GRSPaV variants. Variant-specific RT-PCR detection protocols have been developed in this work to study distribution of the three different variants in the same plant during the season. This study showed their randomized distribution in the infected SK704 grapevine plant. Comparative analysis of full-length genome sequences of four Slovak GRSPaV isolates determined in this work and 14 database sequences showed that population of the virus cluster into four major phylogenetic lineages. Moreover, our analyses suggest that genetic recombination along with point mutations could play a significant role in shaping evolutionary history of GRSPaV and contributed to its extant genetic diversification.
Recently, claims have been made of the detection of 'warm-hot' gas in the intergalactic medium. Kaastra et al. (2003) claimed detection of ${\~} 10^6$ K material in the Coma Cluster but studies by Arnaud et al. (2001), and our analysis of the Chandra observations of Coma (Vikhlinin et al. 2001), find no evidence for a $10^6$ K gas in the cluster. Finoguenov et al. (2003) claimed the detection of $3 {\times} 10^6$ gas slightly off-center from the Coma Cluster. However, our analysis of ROSAT data from this region shows no excess in this region. We propose an alternative explanation which resolves all these conflicting reports. A number of studies (e.g. Robertson et al., 2001) have shown that the local interstellar medium undergoes charge exchange with the solar wind. The resulting recombination spectrum shows lines of O VII and O VIII (Wargelin et al. 2004). Robertson & Cravens (2003) have .shown that as much as $25\%$ of the Galactic polar flux is heliospheric recombination radiation and that this component is highly variable. Sporadic heliospheric emission could account for all the claims of detections of 'warm-hot' gas and explain the conflicts cited above.
A method for mapping quantitative trait loci (QTL) was introduced incorporating the information of mixed progeny from complex pedigrees. The method consisted of two steps based on single marker analysis. The first step was to examine the marker-trait association with a mixed model considering common environmental effect and reversed QTL-marker linkage phase. The second step was to estimate QTL effects by a weighted least square analysis. A simulation study indicated that the method incorporating mixed progeny from multiple generations improved the accuracy of QTL detection. The influence of within-genotype variance and recombination rate on QTL analysis was further examined. Detecting a QTL with a large within-genotype variance was more difficult than with a small within-genotype variance. Most of the significant marker-QTL association was detectable when the recombination rate was less than 15%.

We report the electrical properties of copper(II)-phthalocyanine(Cu-Pc) as a hole injaction layer in organic light-emitting diode (OLED). OLEDs were constructed by the following material structure : indium tin oxaide (ITO)/ CuPc/ triphenyl-diamine (TPD)/ tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum (Alq3)/4-(Dicyanomethlene)-2-methyl-6-(4-dimethylaminostyryl)-4H-pyran (DCM)/ Al. we observed that the change of recombination zone by using a DCM detection thin layer (6 ${\AA}$) in a Alq$_3$ emitting layer. layer. Recombination zone was moved toward the cathode as the hole mobility increased due to the heat-treatment temperature of cupc layer increased.
Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV), a member of genus Begomovirus, was isolated in Korea in 2008. We sequenced and analyzed the DNA-A of 51 TYLCV isolates from Korea, and 13 of the TYLCV isolates were selected as type representatives of TYLCV from six Korean provinces. The 13 TYLCV isolates were classified into Korea Group 1 (KG1, nine isolates) and Korea Group 2 (KG2, four isolates) based on the results of phylogenetic analysis and genome size (2774 and 2781 nucleotides, respectively). A recombination detection program 3 (RDP3) revealed two recombinations between the TYLCV Korea isolates and other TYLCV isolates [Thailand (AF206674), Iran (AJ132711), and Israel (X76319)]. TYLCV Jeju isolate was characterized by two recombination events (E1 and E2) caused by the presence of E1 in ORF V1 and C3, which may seem to be the mutations of the high nucleotide transversion and transition rate. Collectively, our results suggest that the occurrence of nucleotide transversions and transitions in TYLCV DNA-A might have induced novel recombination events within the TYLCV Korea isolates.
During meiosis, homologous chromosomes (homologs) pair and undergo genetic recombination via assembly and disassembly of the synaptonemal complex. Meiotic recombination is initiated by excess formation of DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs), among which a subset are repaired by reciprocal genetic exchange, called crossovers (COs). COs generate genetic variations across generations, profoundly affecting genetic diversity and breeding. At least one CO between homologs is essential for the first meiotic chromosome segregation, but generally only one and fewer than three inter-homolog COs occur in plants. CO frequency and distribution are biased along chromosomes, suppressed in centromeres, and controlled by pro-CO, anti-CO, and epigenetic factors. Accurate and high-throughput detection of COs is important for our understanding of CO formation and chromosome behavior. Here, we review advanced approaches that enable precise measurement of the location, frequency, and genomic landscapes of COs in plants, with a focus on Arabidopsis thaliana.

We developed a two-dimensional numerical simulator which can analyze the electrical as well as optical characteristics and evaluate the detection performances of self-signal processing infrared detectors. It solves the poisson equation and the electron, hole current continuity equations including the optical generation and recombination models. To speed up convergency rate. the Newton algorithm is used. Automatic triangular grid generator make it easy to simulate the devices with the various read-out geometries. This simulator can show the variation of spatial resolution which is caused by the transit velocity and transit time dispersion in bifurcate and horn geometries respectively. Also, we calculated the responsivity, noise, and detectivity in respect of the applied electric field and background field-of-view. The results obtained from simulation correspond to those of experiments, and it is verified that horn read-out geometry has the superior spatial resolution and detection performance to bifurcate geometry.

The effect of the wide-bandgap Schottky barrier enhancement cap layer on the performance of metal-semiconductor-metal photodetectors (MSMPD's) is presented. Judged by the dc characteristics, no considerable increase in recombination loss of carriers is resulted by the incorporation of the cap layer. However, about 45% of the detection efficiency is lost for the cap-layered MSMPD's even with a graded layer incorporated under pulse operation, and it was found to be due mainly to the capturing and slow release of the photocarriers at the heterointerface. The loss mechanism of the pulse detection efficiency is believed to be responsible for the intersymbol interference and the increased bit-error-rate (BER) observed in MSMPD's when used with a high bit rate pseudo-random-bit-stream (PRBS) data pattern.
