  • We propose a fast algorithm using Extreme Contour Point (ECP) to detect the angle of rotated images, is implemented by rotation feature of one covered frame image that can be applied to correct the rotated images like in image processing for real time applications, while CORDIC is inefficient to calculate various points like high definition image since it is only possible to detect rotated angle between one point and the other point. The two advantages of this algorithm, namely compatibility to images in preprocessing by using Sobel edge process for pattern recognition. While the other one is its simplicity for rotated angle detection with cyclic shift of two $1{\times}n$ matrix set without complexity in calculation compared with CORDIC algorithm. In ECP, the edge features of the sample image of gray scale were determined using the Sobel Edge Process. Then, it was subjected to binary code conversion of 0 or 1 with circular boundary to constitute the rotation in invariant conditions. The results were extracted to extreme points of the binary image. Its components expressed not just only the features of angle ${\theta}$ but also the square of radius $r^2$ from the origin of the image. The detected angle of this algorithm is limited only to an angle below 10 degrees but it is appropriate for real time application because it can process a 200 degree with an assumption 20 frames per second. ECP algorithm has an O ($n^2$) in Big O notation that improves the execution time about 7 times the performance if CORDIC algorithm is used.

  • The purpose of this study is to find factors associated with the preventive health behavior in the daily lives of housewives of a region in Korea, with a hope that knowledge on the health behavior obtained from this study can be of use in promoting practice of good health behavior of the people. The data this study was collected from 672 persons, randomly selected among residents in Wonseong-Dong Chu-nean City and BuanGun, Junbug. Chisquare test, Pearson's C. C., and Stepwise multiple regression are major statistical methods used in this study. Major findings are as fellows: 1) Health behavior of the respondents was found to be related to their characteistics such as residence. age, educational attainments, and standard of living. However, no statistical significant relation has been found between respondent's health behavior and their characteistics such as size of household living together with children or not, yes or no elderly living together. and yes or no Sick family menber. 2) The preventive health behavior of respondents were found to be significantly related to their interests in their own health status. But the association between the practice of certain health behavior and their recognition of their own health status was statistically insignificant. 3) Practice rates of certain preventive health behavior were found different depending their general knowledge on health(P<0.05). 4) Respondents had significantly different preventive health behavior depending on their attitude on health(P<0.001). 5) Degree of contact with mass-media had shown to be significantly associated with preventive health behavior(P<0.001). 6) In the stepwise regression analysis on preventive health behavior. independant variables representing attitude and knowledge on health and contact of mass-media all together explained 20.4 % of the variance of dependent variable.

  • Widespread recognition of the various aspects of science education has been prompted by post-positivist philosophers' discussions of the nature of science and intense debates among constructivist psychologists about learning in science. Their discussions and debates, in turn, have raised the problems associated with teaching/learning of science in the schools. The purpose of this article, basically based on the reviews and analyses of the literature related to philosophy of science and psychology, was to describe the implications of post-positivism and constructivism for current science education in the schools. In this paper, the author defines science education as education of/about science, and education through/by science. He also stresses that scientific literacy and decision-making should be emphasized as the goals of science education, that the ethical dimensions of science and technology must be included in science curriculum, that group discussion and/or cooperative learning are effective teaching strategy for science as interpreted by post-positivists and constructivists, and that the assessment should be focused on the degree to which cognitive structure has been changed through instruction in the school classrooms.

  • The purpose of this study was to survey the concern for nutrition and the degree of nutritional knowledge of elementary school children's parents and their perception on the eating habits of their children. This study also investigated the effects of the concern for nutrition and the nutritional knowledge on the eating habits of their children. The questionnaire was answered by 383 mothers and fathers in the Kyonggi area. The general nutritional attitude and the perception of their children's eating habits were represented by frequencies and analyzed tv chi-square test, and Fisher's exact test. The difference of nutritional knowledge was represented tv mean and S.D. and was analyzed by one-way ANOVA test. Statistical significance was tested at the 0.05 level. The main results of the study are summarized as follows. 1) Parents had a comparatively deep concern for nutrition and a high level of knowledge. With increasing concern for nutrition, nutritional knowledge tended to be better and the higher proportion of participation in the nutritional education program increased. 2) The majority$(58.5\%)$ of the subjects thought that the eating habit of their children was not appropriate. The subjects had relatively high recognition about their children's eating habits and pointed out the unbalanced diet, snacks, and skipping a meal among their children's eating habits. Nevertheless, there were no significantly differences among the concern for nutrition of the parents and perception on their children's eating habits. As the parents' nutritional attitude, concern for nutrition, and nutritional knowledge can affect the children's eating habits, tire suggest that schools open nutritional education programs for parents in order to acquire proper food and nutrition information, and that schools and homes should be more closely connected.

  • This study is aiming at providing the useful information for successful implementation of the forest resource promotion policy through analyzing the impacting factors and their relationships on policy accomplishment and policy effectiveness in executing the forest resource promotion policy. Interview survey was conducted on the stake-holders such as government officers and civilians who have direct or indirect influences on the establishment and execution of the forest resource promotion policy. The forest resource promotion policy was heuristically analyzed by using the LISREL (Linear Structural RELations) Model. The policy accomplishments of forest resource promotion significantly showed the positive relations with the suitability of problem recognition, the suitability of policy decision-making and rationality of policy execution, while the degree of policy support and the policy accomplishments were having significant impacts upon the policy effectiveness. Since the path coefficients between the latent variables and observed variables and among the latent variables mostly showed the positive relations significantly, the forest resource promotion policy was evaluated very successful in terms of policy accomplishments and policy effectiveness.

  • Among the techniques to protect private information by adopting biometrics, speaker verification is expected to be widely used due to advantages in convenient usage and implementation cost. Speaker verification should achieve a high degree of the reliability in the verification score, the flexibility in speech text usage, and the efficiency in verification system complexity. Continuants have excellent speaker-discriminant power and the modest number of phonemes in the category, and multilayer perceptrons (MLPs) have superior recognition ability and fast operation speed. In consequence, the two provide viable ways for speaker verification system to obtain the above properties. This paper implements a system to which continuants and MLPs are applied, and evaluates the system using a Korean speech database. The results of the experiment prove that continuants and MLPs enable the system to acquire the three properties.
