Song-Do international city is the area developed in large-scale land reclamation. Song-Do area consists of reclamation layer, sedimentary layer(loose silt, soft clay and sand alternating) and residual layer from the ground surface. Therefore, using pile foundation is inevitable to build structures safely. In this area, driven PHC piles have been generally constructed in terms of environmental and economic conditions. As a result of analyzing 4 sites in Song-Do district 5 and 7 recently, the method of driving pile has many problems because of existence of rigid soil in sedimentary layer and installation of more than 30m piles. In this case, when installing piles by drive after pre-boring up to appropriate depth, the results of constructability analysis were very good. And in the economic efficiency, although 4% of construction cost rose, it was a very slight increase in comparison with improvement of workability. In the case of the stability, more than 70% compared to the allowable stress of piles was satisfied through the load test. As a result, when PHC piles is installed in Song-Do district, the proper construction method is that piles are located at bearing layer after boring rigid sand layer.

In this study, the tidal flat research history of South Korea was organized by type and period. South Korea's tidal flat research history was largely divided into four fields: sediment research of tidal flat, research using satellite imagery, research on the Quaternary environment change and tidal flats, and ecological research on tidal flats. The comprehensive review of the South Korean tidal flat research history showed that tidal flats had been researched on since the period of Japanese colonial period, but most of the past studies were related to fisheries. Then, in the 1960s, the studies started to focus on the reclaimed land created through reclamation projects. The research on tidal flats from a geomorphological perspective fundamentally started in the 1970s, and the importance of tidal flats became more widely known in the 1980s. Most of the studies then were about the sedimentary environment and the form of landform, the ecosystem, and morphological changes. Since the 2000s, research has been carried out on satellite imagery data together with field survey, to continuously monitor the changes in the sedimentary facies of tidal flats, and in the sedimentary environment. There have been many academic studies on the geographic field of tidal flats, but the research performance on tidal flats in terms of geomorphology is still a blue ocean that has been touched by only a few. Therefore, it is hoped that various studies on Korean tidal flats will be conducted by geomorphologists in the future, and that such area will be established as an important field of study in geomorphology.
In North Korea, forests were intensively degraded by forest land reclamation for food production and firewood collection since the mid-1970s. These degraded forests have to be certainly recovered for economic support, environmental protection and disaster prevention. In order to provide detailed land cover information of forest recovery project (A/R CDM), this study was focused to develop an improved classification method for degraded forest using 2.5m SPOT-5 pan-sharpened image. The degraded forest of North Korea shows various different types of texture. This study used GLCM texture bands of segmented image with spectral bands during forest cover classification. When scale factor 40/shape factor 0.3 was used as a parameter set to generate segment image, segment image was generated on suitable segment scale that could classify types of degraded forest. Forest land cover types were classified with an optimum band combination of Band1, Band2, band3, GLCM dissimilarity (band2), GLCM homogeneity (band2) and GLCM standard deviation (band3). Segment-based classification method using spectral bands and texture bands reached an 80.4% overall accuracy, but the method using only spectral bands yielded an 70.3% overall accuracy. As using spectral and texture bands, a classification accuracy of stocked forest and unstocked forest showed an increase of 23~25%. In this research, SPOT-5 pan-sharpened high-resolution satellite image could provide a very useful information for classifying the forest cover of North Korea in which field data collection was not available for ground truth data and verification directly. And segment-based classification method using texture information improved classification accuracy of degraded forest.
Recently, the land area for many people has been limited because of industrialization and modernization in Korea. The large-scale constructions like the reclamation development projects have been progressed to resolve this problem mentioned above. Therefore, as many of the useful construction materials as possible are needed to perform the largescale construction projects. Many studies for the utilization of pond ash which has a similar characteristic of sand have been conducted and there has been often occurred many structural problems on roadbed in winter. Therefore, the characteristics of the freezing and thawing for Controlled Low-Strength Material(CLSM) using pond ash were analyzed and evaluated by unconfined compressive strength test and mass loss test in this study. As a result of this study, it was confirmed that new CLSM using pond ash with cement(8.2% by weight) was able to stand for the freezing and thawing behavior and was satisfied with the standard of Portland Cement Association.

Sea level rise caused by climate change has become a global issue. Sea level rise seems to be an important factor of the research for coastal areas as it affects topography and vegetation of coasts and especially for the plan of coastal wetlands restoration which needs to be carried out for a long term, it has to be considered sufficiently. The coastal wetlands in Korea was damaged by the land reclamation project but recent concerns on the restoration have increased as its value is evaluated highly. Suncheon Bay had also reclaimed from wetlands to rice field once however this site is very active for restoration nowadays. This study estimated an effect according to sea level rise by 2100, reappearing the none dike condition of Suncheon Bay so that it can be taken account of a future plan of wetland restoration. The Sea Level Affecting Marshes Model(SLAMM) was selected as predicting model. The input data such as DEM(Digital Elevation Model), slope, wetlands category, sea level rise senario, tidal range and accretion rate was applied for the simulation. The results showed a decrease in tidal flat, an increase in sea area and a change of the rice field to transitional salt marsh consistently by 2100. These results of this study could be used as baseline data in the future plan of ecological restoration in Suncheon Bay.
When carrying out design for soft ground improvement before reclamation of dredged soil, it is very important to appropriately evaluate design parameters such as compression index and undrained strength in order to estimate optimum construction cost. In this study, consolidation and strength parameters were estimated by the samples obtained from the similar reclaimed land. Water content and compression index of dredged soil reclaimed by hydraulic fill method were quite decreased in comparison with those of in-situ conditions at Incheon site. Relationships between compression index(Cc) and water content (wn), and between undrained strength (su) and water content (wn) for dredged soil were obtained by field vane test and oedometer test, respectively. Applicability of Schmertmann correction method (compression index) for low plasticity silty soil was discussed according to comparison with designed and measured settlements.
Accurate settlement estimation of dredged soft soil deposits is significantly important to prevent potential disasters during land reclamation. An application of the non-linear finite strain consolidation theory is inevitable in dealing with a very soft ground formation such as dredged fill. In this paper, a series of the sedimentation-consolidation test, self-weight consolidation test and CRS test were conducted to clarify sedimentation and consolidation characteristics of dredged fill in the Songdo area, Incheon. In addition, the settlement of dredged fill was numerically simulated using the PSDDF program. The dredged soil obtained from the Songdo area was classified as low-compressible silt (ML) based on USCS (Unified Soil Classification System), and the final bulking factors were estimated to be 1.56 and 1.17 by Yano's method and the numerical simulation, respectively. This difference is attributable to relatively high reclaimed height and large permeability of dredged soil in this region.
In Incheon area, 1960s of economic development planning and heavy industry center of efforts industrial park and port facilities, It is industrial land reclamation by coastal landfill, these industrial park has the characteristics of Low permeability lipid is embedded in the silty sand that was dredged. In this study, To evaluate the heavy metal adsorption ability to filter of drains that have been developed as environmentally friendly materials by applying the effective zeolite to heavy metal adsorption for soil pollution purification suitable for geological characteristics of Incheon. soil pollution Survey data and Literature search, which is the current through the industry, the most problematic was set to Cadmium (Cd) and Copper(Cu), Lead (Pb). and Using the Numerical Analysis using the Visual Modflow, was presented the most efficient drains set interval and format.
In Gomso Bay, on the west coast of Korea, the surface sediments sampled in 1991 and 2006 were analysed to identify the long-term variations of tidal flat sediments. Silt and clay contents have decreased in the bay-mouth tidal flats whereas sand and clay contents have decreased on the inner-bay and bay-head tidal flats over the last 15 year period. In particular, the clay contents of the tidal flats in 2006 were relatively low when compared to those of both tidal flats adjacent to other semi-enclosed bays and those of the tidal flats in 1991. The variations of textural compositions in the tidal flat sediments have led to changes of the sedimentary facies. It indicates that the changes must have been made by the changes of hydrodynamic conditions impacted by human activities, such as the construction of sea-walls, land reclamation, structures of farms constructed compactly near the low water line, and the Saemangeum dyke constructed in the northern part of the area where this research was conducted.

The objective of this study was to understand changes of plasma metabolites, hormones, and mRNA level of cytoplasmic phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK-C) in liver in spontaneous clinical ketosis; 10 clinically ketotic cows and 10 healthy cows were chosen from the same dairy farm. Eleven blood parameters and liver fat content were measured in all cows, and mRNA levels of PEPCK-C in liver were measured by semi-quantitative reverse transcription (RT) polymerase chain reaction (PCR). In ketotic cows, concentration of plasma glucose decreased (p<0.01), concentration of plasma nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) and $\beta$-hydroxybutyric acid (BHBA) increased (p<0.01), liver fat content (18.8% wet weight) and activity of plasma aspartate aminotransferase (AST) increased (p<0.01), but concentration of plasma total bilirubin (TBIL), $\gamma$-glutamyl transpeptidase ($\gamma$-GT), and cholinesterase (CHE) increased (p>0.05). In addition, concentration of plasma insulin decreased (p<0.05), concentration of plasma glucagons decreased (p>0.05), and mRNA level of PEPCK-C in liver increased (p<0.05). It is concluded that the adaptative changes of metabolites, hormones, and mRNA level of PEPCK-C in ketotic cows were in favor of the enhancement of gluconeogenesis, the decrease of fat mobilization and the relief of ketosis, but these were still inadequate to relieve ketosis.
