A Study on charge/discharge characteristics of cathode active material $LiCo_{1-x}Ni_{x}O_2$ for Li rechargeable batteries (리튬 2차 전지용 정극 활물질 $LiCo_{1-x}Ni_{x}O_2$의 충방전 특성)

  • We prepared $LiCo_{1-x}Ni_{x}O_2$ by reacting stoichiometric mixture of LiOH.$H_2O$, $CoCO_3$.$xH_2O$ and $Ni(OH)_2$ (mole ratio respectively) and heating at $850^{\circ}C$ for 5h. We awared through XRD that from 0 to 0.5 at x in $LiCo_{1-x}Ni_{x}O_2$ is well formed for hexagonal structure, but the more $LiCo_{1-x}Ni_{x}O_2$ involve NI, the more hexagonal structure is not well formed. In the result of charge/discharge test, charge/discharge characteristic of $LiCo_{1-x}Ni_{x}O_2$ is similar to that of $LiCoO_2$. Therefore, $LiCo_{1-x}Ni_{x}O_2$ is superior to $LiCoO_2$ for Li secondary battery

Effects of Porous Microstructure on the Electrochemical Properties of Si-Ge-Al Base Anode Materials for Li-ion Rechargeable Batteries (리튬이차전지용 다공성 Si-Ge-Al계 음극활물질의 전기화학적 특성)

  • Silicon alloys are considered promising anode active materials to replace Li-ion batteries by graphite powder, because they have a relatively high capacity of up to 4200 mAh/g, and are environmentally friendly and inexpensive ECO-materials. However, its poor charge/discharge properties, induced by cracking during cycles, constitute their most serious problem as anode electrode. In order to solve these problems, Si-Ge-Al alloys with porous structure are designed as anode alloy powders, to improve cycling stability. The alloys are melt-spun to obtain the rapidly solidified ribbons, and then ball-milled to make fine powders. The powders are etched using 1 M HCl solution, which gives the powders a porous structure by removing the element Al. Subsequently, in this study, the microstructures and the characteristics of the etched powders are evaluated for application as anode materials. As a result, the etched porous powder shows better electrochemical properties than as-milled Si-Ge-Al powder.

Lithium intercalation into a plasma-enhanced-chemical-vapour-deposited carbon film electrode

  • Electrochemical lithium intercalation into a PECVD (plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposited) carbon film electrode was investigated in 1 M $LiPF_6-EC$ (ethylene carbonate) and DEC (diethyl carbonate) solution during lithium intercalation and deintercalation, by using cyclic voltammetry supplemented with ac-impedance spectroscopy. The size of the graphitic crystallite in the a- and c-axis directions obtained from the carbon film electrode was much smaller than those of the graphite one, indicating less-developed crystalline structure with hydrogen bonded to carbon, from the results of AES (Auger electron spectroscopy), powder XRD (X-ray diffraction) method, and FTIR(Fourier transform infra-red) spectroscopy. It was shown from the cyclic voltammograms and ac-impedance spectra of carbon film electrode that a threshold overpotential was needed to overcome an activation barrier to entrance of lithium into the carbon film electrode, such as the poor crystalline structure of the carbon film electrode showing disordered carbon and the presence of residual hydrogen in its structure. The experimental results were discussed in terms of the effect of host carbon structure on the lithium intercalation capability.

The Effect of Synthetic Heat-treatment Temperatures on the Substitution Behavior of Lithium Ions in Potassium Tetratitanate (합성 열처리온도 변화가 Potassium Tetratitanate의 리튬 이온 치환거동에 미치는 영향)

  • 사티탄산칼륨을 리튬이온 전지의 양극재료로써 사용하고자 할 때 사티탄산칼륨의 합성 열처리 온도가 리튬이온 치환량에 미치는 영향에 대해 조사하였다. 사티탄산칼륨은 $K_2$O와 TiO$_2$의 몰 비를 1 : 3.91로 칭량하여 95$0^{\circ}C$, 100$0^{\circ}C$, 105$0^{\circ}C$에서 각각 합성하였다. 그 후, 사티탄산칼륨의 (Ti$_4$O$_{9}$ )$^{2-}$ 층간에 존재하는 $K^{+}$ 이온을 H$^{+}$ 이온으로 치환하고 이것을 다시 Li$^{+}$ 이온으로 치환하였다. 사티탄산칼륨의 합성 열처리 온도가 증가할수록 사티탄산칼륨의 (Ti$_4$O$_{9}$ )$^{2-}$ 층간의 거리가 감소했고 사티탄산칼륨의 길이가 증가했다. 95$0^{\circ}C$에서 열처리된 사티탄산칼륨의 리튬이온 치환량이 가장 많았다. 이는 상대적으로 낮은 합성 열처리 온도에서 사티탄산칼륨의 (Ti$_4$O$_{9}$ )$^{2-}$ 층간의 거리가 넓어져 리튬이온의 층간 이동이 쉬어졌고, 고온에서 열처리되어 길이가 긴 사티탄산칼륨에 비해 저온에서 열처리된 사티탄산칼륨은 길이가 짧아져 리튬이온이 (Ti$_4$O$_{9}$ )$^{2-}$ 층간으로 이동해 가는 거리가 짧아졌으며 아울러 짧은 사티탄산칼륨의 개수가 동일한 무게 당긴 사티탄산칼륨의 개수보다 많으므로 리튬이온의 치환량이 많아진다고 사료된다.

Operation of battery-less and wireless sensor using magnetic resonance based wireless power transfer through concrete

  • Although the deployment of wireless sensors for structural sensing and monitoring is becoming popular, supplying power to these sensors remains as a daunting task. To address this issue, there have been large volume of ongoing energy harvesting studies that aimed to find a way to scavenge energy from surrounding ambient energy sources such as vibration, light and heat. In this study, a magnetic resonance based wireless power transfer (MR-WPT) system is proposed so that sensors inside a concrete structure can be wirelessly powered by an external power source. MR-WPT system offers need-based active power transfer using an external power source, and allows wireless power transfer through 300-mm thick reinforced concrete with 21.34% and 17.29% transfer efficiency at distances of 450 mm and 500 mm, respectively. Because enough power to operate a typical wireless sensor can be instantaneously transferred using the proposed MR-WPT system, no additional energy storage devices such as rechargeable batteries or supercapacitors are required inside the wireless sensor, extending the expected life-span of the sensor.

Cycling Performance and Surface Chemistry of Si-Cu Anode in Ionic Liquid Battery Electrolyte Diluted with Dimethyl Carbonate

  • Interfacial compatibility between the Si-Cu electrode and diluted ionic liquid electrolyte containing 50 vol.% of 1M lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI)/1-methyl-1-propylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (MPP-TFSI) and 50 vol.% dimethyl carbonate (DMC) in a lithium cell and dilution effect on surface chemistry are examined. ex-situ ATR FTIR analysis results reveal that the surface of the Si-Cu electrode cycled in the diluted ionic liquid electrolyte is effectively passivated with the SEI layer mainly composed of carboxylate salts-containing polymeric compounds produced by the decomposition of DMC. Surface species by the decomposition of TFSI anion and MPP cation are found to be relatively in a very low concentration level. Passivation of electrode surface with the SEI species contributes to protect from further interfacial reactions and to preserve the electrode structure over 200 cycles, delivering discharge capacity of > 1670 $mAhg^{-1}$ and capacity retention of 88% of maximum discharge capacity.

Development Process of Monocoque Frame for Hybrid Bicycle using Bolt Fastening (볼트체결을 이용한 하이브리드 자전거 모노코크 프레임 개발 프로세스)

  • This paper presents the development process for a bicycle monocoque frame using bolt fastening. Traditionally, bicycle frames have been constructed with metal tubes joined at their ends by welding. These frames have been brazed or soldered onto metal lugs, forming the frame. Because stress loads become greatest at the joint of the bicycle tube frame, joint construction strongly influences frame design and construction. To avoid the inherent problems of material discontinuity at frame joints, numerous designers have attempted to reduce or eliminate the number of joints in tube frames. Nevertheless, the manufacture of high quality, reliable, one-piece and jointless frames has proven difficult and expensive. In this study, a new monocoque frame adapted to a hybrid bike is proposed. The advantage of the monocoque frame, is theat is has a rechargeable battery system that is built into the frame; as a result, the emotional quality for the customer is improved. In order to estimate the design compatibility compared with that of tube frames, structural analysis is performed using finite element method. A prototype based on a modified design has also been made and stability testing has been carried out.

  • 신뢰성 평가 시험은 종종 성능 평가에 장기간의 시간이 요구되며, 전체 생산비용까지 증가시키는 문제점을 안고 있다 스트레스를 이용한 가속수명시험은 제품의 신뢰성 고장과 밀접한 관련이 있는 고장 메커니즘의 촉진을 통해 고장에 이르는 기간을 단축함으로써 신뢰성 평가의 효율성을 도모할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 스트레스 가속 시험에 빈도가속(Usage-Rate Acceleration) 또는 판정가속(Tightening Critical-Values) 등을 결합하여 한층 높은 가속효과를 도모하는 방법을 제안하고, 국내에서 생산되고 있는 2차 전지 제품에 대한 실제 시험 사례분석을 통해 결합된 가속방법의 효과를 실증적으로 보여주고 있다.

  • The purpose of this study is to research and develop $Li_xNi_{2-x}O_2$ cathode for lithium rechargeable battery. We investigated XRD, cyclic voltammetry, AC impedance response and charge/discharge cycling of $Li_xNi_{2-x}O_2$/Li cells. The cell resistance was decreased much at initial charge process from 100% SOC to 0% SOC. The discharge capacity based on $Li_xNi_{2-x}O_2$ of 1st and 15th cycles was 135mAh/g and 108mAh/g, respectively. The $Li_xNi_{2-x}O_2$/Li cell had a good properties.

Synthesis of $Li_xNi_(0.85)Co_(0.15)O_2$ by the PVA-procursor Method and the Effect of Air Flow During the Pyrolysis

  • Polycrystalline powder of LixNi0.85Co0.15O2 was synthesized by pyrolyzing a powder precursor obtained by the PVA-precursor method. Coin cells of lithium-ion rechargeable battery were assembled, whose the cathodes were fabricated from the crystalline powders of LixNi0.85Co0.15O2 synthesized by the method. The effect of synthetic variation on the property of the cell was tested by carrying out 100 consecutive cycles of charge-dis-charge on the cells. The property of the cell was largely influenced by the pyrolysis conditions applied for the synthesis of the LixNi0.85Co0.15O2. Depending on whether the pyrolysis was carried out in standing air or in the flow of dry air, the discharge capacity and cycle-reversibility of the cell varied in large extent. When the powder precursor was pyrolyzed in standing air, a minor phase of lithium carbonate was remained in the LixNi0.85Co0.15O2. The carbon containing powder precursor had to be pyrolyzed in the flow of dry air to eliminate the minor phase. In the flow of dry air, the lithium carbonate in the precursor was eliminated over 500-700。C without any prominent heat event. By controlling the flow of air over the precursor during its pyrolysis, particle size could also be altered. The effect of flowing dry air, during first step pyrolysis or during second step heat treatment, on the property of the cell was discussed.
