  • The present paper is intended to investigate the influence of materials such as cement, mineral admixture and aggregate, on the estimation of compressive strength by P type schmidt hammer. According to the results, the materials of concrete, such as the types of cement, the replacing ratio of mineral admixture, the kinds and maximum size of aggregate, hardly influence on non-destructive test by P type schmidt hammer except for alumina cement, hence, P type schmidt can be applicable to most of the concrete with a wide range. Since the correlativity between the rebound value of P type schmidt hammer and compressive strength is very favorable(above coefficient of correlation 0.96) regardless of materials, it is considered that compressive strength can be estimated comparatively exactly by P type schmidt hammer. The estimating formula of compressive strength by rebound value are derived from this experiment as following. $\cdot$Horizontal strike : Fc = 0.765RH - 5.74 (R=0.965) $\cdot$ Vertical strike Fc = 0.793RV - 8.66 (R=0.959)

  • In construction field, it used various technique for concrete formwork. Part of them, non-destructive test has been conducted to estimate a compressive strength of concrete easily such as rebound method and ultrasonic pulse velocity method etc. Former research has recommend proposed equation based on experimental data to investigate strength of concrete but it was sometimes deferent actual value of that from in field because of the few of data in case of early strength concrete. In this study, an experiment was conducted to analyze strength properties for early strength concrete using cylinder mold and $1,000mm{\times}1,000mm{\times}200mm$ rectangular specimen. And compressive strength of concrete was tested by non-destructive test, and calculated by the equation proposed former research. As a result, the non-destructive test results showed approximately 70 percent of the failure test value for all conditions, and worse reliability was obtained for high strength concrete samples when the ultrasonic pulse velocity method was used. Based on the scope of this study, the experimental equation for estimating compressive strength of early strength concrete from 24MPa to 60MPa was proposed.

  • The rebound hardness test using the SilverSchmidt hammer was performed for diorite, granodiorite, and andesite exposed around the King Sejong Station, Barton peninsula. Then, the R-value and uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) of these rocks were estimated from the Q-values which were obtained from the SilverSchmidt hammer. The Q-value of diorite was distributed in the range from 67.0 to 89.5, granodiorite of the range from 57.5 to 89.0, and andesite of the range from 58.0 to 76.5. The average Q-values of diorite, granodiorite, and andesite were 76.0, 72.0, and 67.0, respectively. The converted UCS of diorite was distributed in the range from 118 to 195 MPa, granodiorite of the range from 91 to 193 MPa, and andesite of the range from 92 to 148 MPa. The average UCS of diorite, granodiorite, and andesite were 147, 136, and 117 MPa, respectively. The converted R-value of diorite was distributed in the range from 53.0 to 72.2, granodiorite of the range from 45.4 to 71.8, and andesite of the range from 45.8 to 60.9. The average Q-values of diorite, granodiorite, and andesite were 60.0, 58.0, and 53.0, respectively. The R-value was represented approximately 20% lower than the Q-value. In conclusion, it will be possibile that the R-value and UCS of rocks under the extreme area from the SilverSchmidt Q-value are evaluated.

  • Los Angeles abrasion loss test has usally been applied to the quarry for the purpose of aggregate hardness estimation. 324 blocks from 25 sites of Kyeongsang basin samples of sedimentary rock were examined and tested in laboratary. This paper found that L. A. abrasion loss test is a good method to estimate engineering index such as uniaxial compressive strength, elastic modulus, indirect tensile strength, point load strength index, Schmidt hammer rebound value of sedimentary rocks with high correlation factor. Engineers will prefer L. A. abrasion loss test to the other one for design and construction as this method is quick and easy.

  • The present study developed shotcrete for fiber-net integrated tunnel support system, which consists of fiber-net support materials including netlike fiber and shotcrete and integration technology between support materials. In addition, in order to evaluate the field applicability of the developed tunnel support system and compare with the performance of steel fiber reinforced shotcrete, mock -up test was conducted on the mock -up structure. The test results show that in the case of shotcrete containing coarse aggregate(S20A5RP10-C), the excessive rebound rate occurred as the secondary shotcrete was dropped during construction due to the degradation in bond performance with fiber-net. Also, in the case of steel fiber reinforced shotcrete, the amount of cast shotcrete fell short of target value due to the fiber ball and the degradation of pumpability. On the other hand, the amount of cast mortar shotcrete(S20A5RP10-M) and the installation position of fiber-net were almost close to the target values, and the lower rebound rate occurred compared to the steel fiber reinforced shotcrete.

  • The Daehan Uiwon (Historic Site No. 248) in which the predecessor of Seoul National University Hospital is a crucial medical institution that built in the Korean Empire period. One of them, East 1 Affiliated Ward that attached to Daehan Uiwon was built with concrete foundation in 1908 and extended two times in 1935 and 1954. As a result of material scientific analysis for concrete foundation, all of the foundation is composed of mortar and stone aggregates, however, the mixing proportions between the aggregate and the mortar were confirmed to be different with construction periods. To determine the mixing proportion, and physical properties by ultrasonic velocity and rebound hardness, the concrete foundations by construction period were obtained. In result, 1954's mixing proportion of concrete between mortar and stone aggregate indicated the highest ratio of aggregates with 1 : 35, mean value of ultrasonic velocity and unconfined compressive strength were calculated with 450 m/s and 18.92 MPa in 1954's constructions that is the lowest values compared with other times. As a result, the difference characteristics of physical properties by construction periods are possible interpreted with porosities and mixing ratios of stone aggregates.

  • High performance shotcrete has been recently researched partly as a result of high consensus on high strength and durability. However, they are very initial step compared from the advanced countries. For instance, they has been mainly on high strength or durability without any consideration on pumpability and shootability which are very crucial on workability. The purpose of this dissertation was to make a high performance wet-mix shotcrete (high workability) which would solve the general problems of wet-mix process in Korea. For this, the main experimental variables were selected to be silica fume(0.0, 4.5, 9%), air entrained agent(0.0, 0.005%). Rheology with IBB rheometer was measured for evaluating pumpability and shootability as well as pump pressure, rebound rate and build-up thickness. The conclusions from a series of experiments were as follow: The results of analyzing the effects of AE agent and silica fume on rheology indicated that AE agent reduced both of flow resistance(G) and torque viscosity(H) and silica fume increased flow resistance (G) and reduced torque viscosity(H). An increase in the value of torque viscosity(H) produces an increase in the requried pumping pressure. These result indicated that the reduction of torque would work better at improving pumpability. And an increase flow resistance(G) improved shootability(increase build-up thickness and reduce rebound).

  • Properties of discontinuity for Seoul Granite in northeastern part of Seoul City were analyzed by dividing structural domains into Surak and Bulam Mtn. areas. Important parameters measured among several engineering properties of a rock during tunnel excavation and road construction are as follows: 1) Orientation of joint, 2) joint spacing, 3) joint density, and 4) uniaxial compressive strength. Orientation, spacing, and density of joints can be directly measured during field investigation using scanline survey, circle-inventory method, and window survey. Uniaxial compressive strength of the rock was calculated by a simple correlation equation although it is originally necessary to prepare core samples in measuring it. Major orientations of joints measured from both areas are 3 sets of joints with different orientations. In other words, they are 2 sets of orthogonal joint and 1 set of sheet joint that is dipping at low angle, and have very similar orientations in both areas. Joint densities in both areas range from 0.039 and 0.066/cm, and average joint length are between 1.30 and 4.52m. Average joint spacing also has values from 10.3cm up to 59.6cm, and shows significant difference along specific orientation of scanlines measured. Values of uniaxial compressive strength calculated on the basis of Schmidt hammer rebound values range from 217 to 335 MPa, which indicates very strong rock type by classification of wall strength.

  • Rock rebound values and chemical compositions of Gamak island at Sangha, Gochang, Jeollabuk do are analysed as a part of geomorphic survey of that area. Some corestones are formed by deep weathering found from the summit of rock mass of Gamak island, while the rocks a part of weathering front are exposed at the foot of the island. Rebound values of rock increase toward coastal plain, so summit would be weak in resistance to erosion. It can be assumed that chemical weathering is more active at the summit by the chemical index of alteration and changes in chemical composition ratio. However it should be mentioned that the samples are taken from the surface of the rock mass that more fresh part will be exposed when the weathered parts are removed. The chemical composition and CIA values of the polygonal cracks found from on the surface of weathering rind showed that this part has values between those of the summit and the footslope. The bottom of weathering rind with polygonal cracks has higher CIA value than those of the surface. Though it supports the result from the Bisul Mt., there also difference in the ratio of SiO2. It looks caused by the difference in weathering environment and chemical difference in parent rock. In summary Gamak island is the remnants of weathering front after removal of weathered material. The removal processes are more active at the footslope where the coastal processes are stronger than the summit.

  • This paper investigated into the impact characteristics of the stainless sheet with thickness of 0.7 mm on the stretching boundary condition through three-dimensional finite element analysis. High speed tensile tests were carried out to obtain strain-stress relationships with the effects of the strain rate. The FE analysis was performed by the ABAQUS explicit code. In order to improve an accuracy of the FE analysis, the hyper-elastic model and the damping factor were introduced. Through the comparison of the results of the FE analyses and those of the impact tests, a proper FE model was obtained. The results of the FE analyses showed that the absorption rate of energy maintains almost 82.5-83.5% irrespective of the impact energy level and the diameter of the impact head. From the results of FE analyses, variations of stress, strain, dissipation energy, strain energy density, and local deformation characteristics in the stainless sheet during the collision and the rebound of the impact head were quantitatively examined. In addition, it was shown that the fracture of the specimen occurs when the plastic strain is 0.42 and the maximum value of the plastic dissipation energy of the specimen is nearly 1.83 J.
