  • Purpose. This study was conducted to compare the paternal rearing behavior and rearing stress level between fathers with a preschooler and fathers with school children so that it can be utilized as a basic source for developing parental rearing education programs. Methods. A descriptive comparative methods was conducted to identify the paternal rearing behavior and paternal rearing stress. Respondents were 361 fathers who had either preschoolers (n=189) or children of elementary age (n=l72). Results. Comparing the two group's means, the rearing activity score and rearing stress there were significant differences. In the school children's group's father, 'outdoor activity' and 'guidance on discipline activity' were significantly higher than the other group. In the preschool children's fathers group, 'play interaction activity' was statistically significant higher than the other, and the child-part mean score of paternal rearing stress was significantly higher than the other group. The correlation between paternal rearing behavior and paternal rearing stress, it can be shown that more paternal rearing behavior means less paternal rearing stress. Conclusion. These results of this study will help design rearing program for fathers that have either preschool children or school children by providing the basic data for paternal rearing behaviors and paternal rearing stress.

  • The purpose of this study was to clarify how preschooler's adaptive temperament and father's child-rearing involvement may be related to mother's chid-rearing stress. The subjects were 320 mothers whose children were 3, 4 or 5 age preschoolers attending day care centers in Keoungbok. Statistical techniques were Pearson's correlation, hierarchical multiple regression(using SPSS 12.0). The results of this were as follows. 1. Mother's child-rearing stress was negatively related to preschooler's adaptive temperament. 2. Mother's child-rearing stress was negatively related to father's child-rearing involvement. 3. The Multiple Regression analysis showed that preschooler's adaptive temperament and father's child-rearing involvement were significantly predictive to mother's child-rearing stress. And preschooler's adaptive temperament was the stronger predictor of mother's child-rearing stress than father's child-rearing involvement. There was no significant interaction effect of father's child-rearing involvement and preschooler's adaptive temperament on mother's child-rearing stress.

Methods: The subjects were 23 immigrant pregnant women who voluntarily participated in the study in D city. The program was provided, once a week for 90 minutes for a period of 3 weeks. The outcome variables were child-rearing knowledge, child-rearing stress, and child rearing self-efficacy. Data was collected from April 4 to June 24, 2011, through self-administered questionnaires. Results: The program significantly improved child rearing knowledge, child rearing stress, and newborn care self-efficacy for married immigrant pregnant women who participated in the program compared to women who did not participate. Conclusion: The results suggest that the reproductive health promotion program has an affirmative effect on child-rearing knowledge, child rearing stress, and child rearing self-efficacy of married immigrant pregnant women. It is suggested, therefore, that the educational program be presented to married immigrant woman at public health centers to enhance their confidence in child-rearing.

Mothers of 450 4-, 5- and 6-year-old children in six different kindergartens and daycare centers in Seoul and Kyungki-do area completed the Father's Participation in Child Rearing(Kyung Soon Choi, 1993) scale and the Parenting Daily Hassles(Cmic & Greenberg, 1990) scale. Data were analyzed statistically by SPSS. Results show that higher father's participation in child rearing results in lower child rearing stress for mothers. Especially, father's participation in areas of parenting and housework is important factor influence mother's decrease child rearing stress.

  • Purpose: This study investigated the effects of father's occupational stress and rearing attitude on rearing participation. Methods: The participants of this study were 201 fathers who are raising children in J region. The data were collected by self-report using questionnaires from August to September, 2015. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient, Scheffe test, and stepwise multiple linear regression with the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results: The total mean scores of occupational stress on the subjects were 40.98(${\pm}8.36$), rearing attitude were $68.54({\pm}7.18$), rearing participation were $73.16({\pm}11.34$). The study showed that occupational stress is negatively correlated with rearing participation and rearing attitude positively correlated with rearing participation. Working style and rearing attitude were identified of rearing participation. Conclusion: A father's rearing participation level was influenced by father's attitude of caring children above all. In addition, fathers' working styles were also a main factor. Therefore, it is necessary for fathers to learn rearing attitudes in a way that can develop a nursing intervention program to increase their rearing participation level.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of child rearing behavior and child rearing involvement on elementary school children's stress. The subjects were 201 children selected from 2 elementary schools and their parents. Data was collected using the children's stress index, the child rearing behavior questionnaire, and the child rearing involvement questionnaire, and was statistically analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA (Duncan test), correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. The study showed that there were some significant differences in children's stress according to the child's gender, grade, and scholastic achievement. Correlation analysis indicated that the child's stress and the mother's child rearing behavior had significant correlation, especially the warmth acceptance behavior of the mother indicated negative high correlation. Also, the child's stress and father's child rearing behavior had significant correlation, especially the rejection restriction behavior of the father indicated positive high correlation. Correlation analysis indicated that the child's stress and the mother's child rearing involvement had significant correlation, especially the family activities involvement of the mother indicated negative high correlation. As well, the child's stress and the father's child rearing involvement had significant correlation, especially the day to day guidance involvement of the father indicated negative high correlation. It was also found that rejection restriction behavior of the father, permissiveness non-intervention behavior of the father, day to day guidance involvement of the father, family activities involvement of the father, and warmth acceptance behavior of the mother were all significant predictors of the elementary school child's stress.

The major findings of this study were as follow; First there was a significant difference between parenting beliefs and child rearing stress. Second, there was a significant difference between parental satisfaction and child rearing stress. Third, conflict of parental role in parental satisfaction and problem solving in parent beliefs was the most predicting variables in child rearing stress.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the patterns of coping with marital conflict and child-rearing stress among mothers of young children. The participants were 166 mothers of children who were between 3 years and 7 years of age, living in the North Kyongsang Province. Paired t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe' test, Pearson's correlation and partial correlation analyses were conducted for this study. The results of this study were as follows. (1) In those situations where the participants experienced marital conflict and child-rearing stress, they were more likely to use an avoidance coping strategy than an approach coping strategy. (2) Among the mothers who were experiencing marital conflict or child-rearing stress, the group that suffered a higher level of stress was more likely to employ an avoidance coping strategy. However, there were no differences in the approach coping behavior by the level of stress. (3) When the level of marital conflict and child-rearing stress were controlled, approach coping behavior with marital conflict was still moderately correlated with approach coping behavior with child-rearing stress.
