  • A smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method is applied for simulating two-dimensional free-surface problems. The SPH method based on the Lagrangian formulation provides realistic flow motions with violent surface deformation, fragmentation and reunification. In this study, the effect of computational parameters in SPH simulation is explored through two-dimensional dam-breaking and sloshing problem. The parameters to be considered are the speed of sound, the frequency of density re-initialization, the number of particle and smoothing length. Through a series of numerical test. detailed information was obtained about how SPH solution can be more stabilized and improved by adjusting computational parameters. Finally, some numerical simulations for various fluid flow problem were carried out based on the parameters chosen through the sensitivity study.

  • This study aims to reflect the basic principles and teaching-teaming principles of Realistic Mathematics Education in order to suppose an way in which mathematics as an activity is carried out in primary school. The development of what is known as RME started almost thirty years ago. It is founded by Freudenthal and his colleagues at the former IOWO. Freudenthal stressed the idea of matheamatics as a human activity. According to him, the key principles of RME are as follows: guided reinvention and progressive mathematisation, level theory, and didactical phenomenology. This means that children have guided opportunities to reinvent mathematics by doing it and so the focal point should not be on mathematics as a closed system but on the process of mathematisation. There are different levels in learning process. One should let children make the transition from one level to the next level in the progress of mathematisation in realistic contexts. Here, contexts means that domain of reality, which in some particular learning process is disclosed to the learner in order to be mathematised. And the word of 'realistic' is related not just with the real world, but is related to the emphasis that RME puts on offering the students problem situations which they can imagine. Under the background of these principles, RME supposes the following five instruction principles: phenomenological exploration, bridging by vertical instruments, pupils' own constructions and productions, interactivity, and interwining of learning strands. In order to reflect how to realize these principles in practice, the teaming process of algorithms is illustrated. In this process, children follow a learning route that takes its inspiration from the history of mathematics or from their own informal knowledge and strategies. Considering long division, the first levee is associated with real-life activities such as sharing sweets among children. Here, children use their own strategies to solve context problems. The second level is entered when the same sweet problems is presented and a model of the situation is created. Then it is focused on finding shortcomings. Finally, the schema of division becomes a subject of investigation. Comparing realistic mathematics education with constructivistic mathematics education, there interaction, reflective thinking, conflict situation are many similarities but there are alsodifferences. They share the characteristics such as mathematics as a human activity, active learner, etc. But in RME, it is focused on the delicate balance between the spontaneity of children and the authority of teachers, and the development of long-term loaming process which is structured but flexible. In this respect two forms of mathematics education are different. Here, we learn how to develop mathematics curriculum that respects the theory of children on reality and at the same time the theory of mathematics experts. In order to connect the informal mathematics of children and formal mathematics, we need more teachers as researchers and more researchers as observers who try to find the mathematical informal notions of children and anticipate routes of children's learning through thought-experiment continuously.

  • The objective of this article is investigation of dynamic response of thick multilayer functionally graded (FG) beam under generalized dynamic forces. The plane stress problem is exploited to describe the constitutive equation of thick FG beam to get realistic and accurate response. Applied dynamic forces are assumed to be sinusoidal harmonic, sinusoidal pulse or triangle in time domain and point load. Equations of motion of deep FG beam are derived based on the Hamilton principle from kinematic relations and constitutive equations of plane stress problem. The numerical finite element procedure is adopted to discretize the space domain of structure and transform partial differential equations of motion to ordinary differential equations in time domain. Numerical time integration method is used to solve the system of equations in time domain and find the time responses. Numerical parametric studies are performed to illustrate effects of force type, graduation parameter, geometrical and stacking sequence of layers on the time response of deep multilayer FG beams.

  • This paper describes the thermoelastic instability arising from friction heat generation in braking and proposes the finite element methods to predict the variation of temperature and thermal deformation. In a conventional disc brake analysis, heat generation is only related with wheel speed and friction material and the interface pressure between disc and pad is assumed constant. But under dynamic braking conditions, the frictional heat causes the thermoelastic distortion that leads to more concentrated contact pressure distribution and hence more and more non-uniform temperature. In this paper, to complete the solution of the thermomechanically coupled problem, the linear relation model between pressure and temperature is proposed and demonstrated in examples of a simple two dimensional contact problem. And the two dimensional model has been extended to an annular three dimensional disc model in order to consider more realistic geometry and to provide a more accurate critical speed for automotive brake systems.

  • This paper aims to introduce the numerical methods for solving the optimal control theory to model bufferbloat problem. Mathematical tools are useful to provide insight for system engineers and users to understand better about what we are facing right now while experiment in a large-scale testbed can encourage us to implement in realistic scenario. In this paper, we introduce a survey of the numerical methods for solving the optimal control problem. We propose the dynamic optimization sweeping algorithm for optimal control of the active queue management. Simulation results in network simulator ns2 demonstrate that our proposed algorithm can obtain the stability faster than the others while still maintain a short queue length (≈10 packets) and low delay experience for arriving packets (0.4 seconds).

  • In this paper, we present a distribution planning method for a supply chain. Like a typical distribution network of manufacturing firms, we have the form of arborescence. To consider more realistic situation, we investigated that an outside supplier has limited capacity. The customer demands are given in deterministic form in finite number of discrete time periods. In this environment, we attempt to minimize the total costs, which is the sum of inventory holding and backorder costs over the distribution network during the planning horizon. To make the best of the restricted capacity, we propose the look-ahead feature. For looking ahead, we convert this problem into a single machine scheduling problem and utilize tabu search approach to solve it. Numerous simulation tests have shown that the proposed algorithm performs quite well.

  • This paper presents a model and a heuristic algorithm for the Traveling Salesman Problem with Time Windows(TSPTW). The main difference of our model compared with the previous ones lies in that the time windows we are concerned are more flexible and realistic than the previous ones. In the typical TSPTW, the service at a node must begin within the time grid called the time window that is defined by the earliest and the latest time to start the service at each node. But, in real business practice, a lateness cost is usually penalized rather than the service is prohibited at all when a vehicle arrives after the latest time. Considering this situation, we develop a model with a new time window that allows an arrival after the latest time and penalizes the late arrival by charging a lateness cost. A two-phased heuristic algorithm is proposed for the model and is extensively tested to verify the accuracy and efficiency of the algorithm.

  • Power system analysis, Non-Convex Economic Dispatch (NED) is considered as an open and demanding optimization problem. Despite the fact that realistic ED problems have non-convex cost functions with equality and inequality constraints, conventional search methods have not been able to effectively find the global answers. Considering the great potential of meta-heuristic optimization techniques, many researchers have started applying these techniques in order to solve NED problems. In this paper, a new and efficient approach is proposed based on imperialist competitive algorithm (ICA). The proposed algorithm which is named multi-operator ICA (MuICA) merges three operators with the original ICA in order to simultaneously avoid the premature convergence and achieve the global optimum answer. In this study, the proposed algorithm has been applied to different test systems and the results have been compared with other optimization methods, tending to study the performance of the MuICA. Simulation results are the confirmation of superior performance of MuICA in solving NED problems.

  • The reliable prediction of elastic vibrations of wetted complex structures, as ships, tanks, offshore structures, propulsion components etc. represent a theoretical and numerical demanding task due to fluid-structure interaction. The paper presented is addressed to the vibration analysis by a combined FE-BE-procedure based on the added mass concept utilizing a direct boundary integral formulation of the potential fluid problem in interior and exterior domains. The discretization is realized by boundary element collocation method using conventional as well as infinite boundary element formulation with analytical integration scheme. Particular attention is devoted to modelling of interior problems with both several separate or communicating fluid domains as well as thin-walled structures wetted on both sides. To deal with this specific kind of interaction problems so-called "virtual" boundary elements in areas of cut outs are placed to satisfy the kinematical conditions in partial connected fluid domains existing in realistic tank systems. Numerical results of various theoretical and practical examples demonstrate the performance of the BE-methodology presented.
