In the past, mosaics were made by laying cloth on the floor and manually tiling the tiles. However, due to recent developments in technology, the data storage method has evolved from analog to digital, so that image representation and conversion can be realized through computer. Also, various expression techniques of mosaic are developed, and it is also used as a method of art representation in digital. There are various studies on the production process of mosaic. The proposed method is a crystallization mosaic that spreads spirally in real time and uses 3D quartz as a tile element. Although existing researches are mostly focused on the purpose of rendering images in more detail, this technique combines untried spiral drawing and crystallization, and attempts to explore new expression techniques in 3D space by attempting a new mosaic method in 3D space. 'Spiral Crystallization Photo', based on this technique, was selected as Top27 in MWU Award 18 and exhibited at Unite Seoul 2018.
In this paper, we describe a fast image mosaic method for constructing a large-scale image with video image captured from cameras that are arranged in radial shape. In the first step, we adopt the phase correlation algorithm to estimate the horizontal and vertical displacement between two adjacent images. Secondly, we calculate the accurate transform matrix among those cameras with Levenberg-Marquardt method. In the last step, those images are stitched into one large scale image in real-time by applying the transform matrix to the texture mapping function of DirectX. The feature of the method is that we do not need to use special hardware devices or write machine-level programs for Implementing a real-time mosaic system since we use conventional graphic APIs (Application Programming Interfaces), DirectX for image synthesis process.

Concentric mosaics are made with arranging and summing of video frames by using common spacial standards. Compared with previous works on 3-D wavelet transform coding, we have made important design considerations to enable flexible partial decoding and bit-stream random access. A just-in-time(JIT) rendering engine of the compressed concentric mosaic is developed. However, computationally, it is still demanding to accomplish the real-time rendering. Only the contents for specific scene representation are need to be decoded by maintaining compressed data. Thus our proposed algorithm is able to render real concentric mosaic by using lifting scheme instead of wavelet transform.
A range mosaic query returns distribution of data within the query region as a pattern of mosaic, whereas a range aggregate query returns a single aggregate value of data within the query region. The range mosaic query divides a query region by a multi-dimensional grid, and calculates aggregate values of grid cells. In this paper, we propose a new type of query, range mosaic query and a new operator, mosaic-by, with which the range mosaic queries can be represented. In addition, we suggest efficient algorithms for processing range mosaic queries using an aggregate R-tree. The algorithm that we present computes aggregate results of every mosaic grid cell by one time traversal of the aggregate R-tree, and efficiently executes the queries with only a small number of node accesses by using the aggregate values of the aggregate R-tree. Our experimental study shows that the range mosaic query algorithm is reliable in terms of performance for several synthetic datasets and a real-world dataset.
We developed a real-time screening system using optical coherence tomography (OCT) to distinguish the fruitful melon seeds efficiently. Cross-section images of melon seeds infected with Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus (CGMMV) showed an additional layer that did not appear in normal seeds. Additional layer appeared under $100{\sim}300{\mu}m$ from the surface of the seed. OCT can visualize the micro-structural and morphological changes of the internal seed structure. Real-time OCT seed screening system provided the real-time, non-destructive, cross-section image and quantitative information such as A-scan analysis of selected region in the cross-section image. We can distinguish the viral infection seeds while monitoring the averaged A-scan analysis graph in real-time by considering the second peak value of the graph which refers to the layer that occurred owing to the virus. Real-time OCT seed screening system could assist to distinguish the disease caused by CGMMV.
Since wireless sensor networks (WSN) have relatively narrow bandwidth and have limited memory space. Mosaic by inlaying images transmitted by adjacent sensors can provide wider field of view and smaller storage memory. Most WSN are used for surveillance purpose, image acquisition period should be sufficiently short, so that mosaic algorithm has to be run in real time. Proposed algorithm is derived by using the fact that position of sensor nodes are fixed and known. Transformation matrix can be calculated by using distance between sensor nodes and distance between sensor nodes and predefined object. Simulation result shows that proposed algorithm provides very short processing time whereas it preserves image quality.
Peach rosette mosaic virus (PRMV) is a plant virus that was first reported in 1933 by Peach. It can infect hosts including peach, grape, blueberry, dandelion, plum, cherry tree, and weeds. PRMV is non-reportable in Korea, but it is designated as a controlled virus requiring plant quarantine. In this study, for the rapid and specific detection of PRMV, we developed an assay using loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP). Comparison between conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods (real time-PCR and nested PCR) and LAMP for the detection of PRMV revealed an equivalent level of sensitivity by all the tested methods. For the LAMP assay, outer primer sets were used to amplify a 264-bp PCR product, which was then digested using the restriction enzyme Pvu II (CAG/CTG), and the visualization of two digestion fragments (207 + 57 bp) indicated a positive reaction. The developed LAMP assay for PRMV is expected to enable the rapid monitoring of PRMV in plants.
In this paper, for recognize a night pedestrian from an infrared video, a new method differentiated from the existing feature vector is proposed and experimented. The new approach focuses on the shape feature vector of the structure and shape of the pedestrian image divided by the human body seven split ratio. The pedestrian images are divided into 7 square blocks from the still image of the preprocessing process. And to reduce the dimension, the square block is converted into a mosaic block. The scalar and direction of the shape feature vector is calculated by the brightness and position of the element in the mosaic. For practicality of infrared video system, the proposed method simplifies the data to be processed by reducing the amount of data in the preprocessing in order to continuously batch process the entire system in real time. Through the experiments, we verified the validity of the proposed shape feature vector. In comparison to the existing method, we propose a new shape feature vector generation method as the feature vector for night pedestrian recognition.
The determination of soil characteristics is important in the simulation of rainfall runoff using a distributed FLO-2D model in catchment analysis. Digital maps acquired using remote sensing techniques have been widely used in modern hydrology. However, the determination of a representative parameter with spatial scaling mismatch is difficult. In this investigation, the FLO-2D rainfall-runoff model is utilized in the Yongdam catchment to test sensitivity based on three different methods (mosaic, arithmetic, and predominant) that describe soil surface characteristics in real systems. The results show that the mosaic method is costly, but provides a reasonably realistic description and exhibits superior performance compared to other methods in terms of both the amount and time to peak flow.

The sapphire orientation dependence of the crystallization of ZnO thin films has been studied using real-time synchrotron x-ray scattering. The amorphous ZnO thin films with a 2400-${\AA}$-thick were grown on sapphire(110) and sapphire(001) substrates by radio frequency magnetron sputtering at room temperature. The amorphous ZnO films were crystallization into epitaxial ZnO(002) grains both on the sapphire(110) and on the sapphire(001) substrates. The epitaxial quality, such as mosaic distribution and crystal domain size, of the ZnO grains on the sapphire(110) is high, similar to that of the ZnO grains on the sapphire(001). With increasing the annealing temperature to 600$^{\circ}C$, the mosaic distribution and the crystal domain size of ZnO(002) grains in the film normal direction was improved and decreased, respectively.
