Efficiency Low-Power Signal Processing for Multi-Channel LiDAR Sensor-Based Vehicle Detection Platform (멀티채널 LiDAR 센서 기반 차량 검출 플랫폼을 위한 효율적인 저전력 신호처리 기법)

  • The LiDAR sensor is attracting attention as a key sensor for autonomous driving vehicle. LiDAR sensor provides measured three-dimensional lengths within range using LASER. However, as much data is provided to the external system, it is difficult to process such data in an external system or processor of the vehicle. To resolve these issues, we develop integrated processing system for LiDAR sensor. The system is configured that client receives data from LiDAR sensor and processes data, server gathers data from clients and transmits integrated data in real-time. The test was carried out to ensure real-time processing of the system by changing the data acquisition, processing method and process driving method of process. As a result of the experiment, when receiving data from four LiDAR sensors, client and server process was operated using background or multi-core processing, the system response time of each client was about 13.2 ms and the server was about 12.6 ms.

  • A vibration monitoring system for a small size wind turbine (WIT) is established and operated. The monitoring system consists of monolithic integrated chip accelerometer for vibration monitoring, anemometers for wind data acquisition and auxiliary sensors for atmospheric data. Using the monitoring system, vibration response of a 6kW stand alone WIT generator is investigated. Acceleration data of the WIT tower under various operation condition is acquired in real time using LabVIEW and the data are remotely transferred from the test site to the laboratory in school by internet. Vibration response characteristics of the tower structure are diagnosed in the aspect of stability of W/T. Wind data and electrical power performance are also investigated with the stability problem.

Development of Retina Photographing and Multi Channel Image Acquisition System for Thickness Measurement of Retina (망막 두께 측정을 위한 망막 촬영 및 다채널 영상획득장치 개발)

  • In order to measure the retina thickness, the retina photographing system and the multi-channel high speed image data acquisition system is developed. This system requires the optical processing techniques and the high speed image processing techniques. The HeNe laser beam is projected the retina in artificial eye and then we sensed the reflected laser signal using APD array. The laser projection system on retina using optical instruments is implemented. In order to project the plane laser beam on retina, laser photographing system used the polygon mirror for horizontal scanning and the galvano mirror for vertical scanning. We acquired retina images in each channel of APD array, transferred computer using PCI interface the image data after real-time A/D converting.

  • Recently the necessity of road data is still being increased in industrial society, so there are many repairing and new constructions of roads at many areas. According to the development of government, city and region, the update and acquisition of road data for GIS (Geographical Information System) is very necessary. In this study, the fusion method with range data(3D Ground Coordinate System Data) and Intensity data in stand alone LiDAR data is used for road extraction and then digital image processing method is applicable. Up to date Intensity data of LiDAR is being studied. This study shows the possibility method for road extraction using Intensity data. Intensity and Range data are acquired at the same time. Therefore LiDAR does not have problems of multi-sensor data fusion method. Also the advantage of intensity data is already geocoded, same scale of real world and can make ortho-photo. Lastly, analysis of quantitative and quality is showed with extracted road image which compare with I: 1,000 digital map.

  • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADAs) is real-time monitor and control systems. SCADA systems are used to monitor or control chemical and transportation processes, in municipal water supply systems, electric power generation, transmission and distribution, gas and oil pipelines, and other distributed processes. SCADA refers to a large-scale distributed system. The supervisory control system is placed on top of a real time control system to control external processes. Emerging security technologies and security devices are decreasing the vulnerability of the power system against cyber threats. Dealing with these threats and analyzing vulnerabilities is an important task for equipment such as RTU, IED and FEP. To reduce such risks, we develop such a SCADA testbed. This paper presents the development of a testbed designed to assess the vulnerabilities SCADA networks(including serial communication).

  • This paper introduces a real-time 3D model generation system that can process in real time from multi-view image acquisition to image-based 3D model generation. This system describes how to collect, transmit, and manage the HD images input from 18 cameras and explain the background separation and smooth 3D volume model generation process. This paper proposes a new distributed data transmission and reception method for real-time processing of HD images input from 18 cameras. In addition, we describe a codebook-based background separating algorithm and a modified marching cube algorithm using perspective difference interpolation to generate smooth 3D models from multi-view images. The system is currently being built with a throughput rate of 30 frames per second.

  • Contrary to the traditional text-based information, 4S(GIS,GNSS,SIIS,ITS) information can contribute to the citizen's welfare in upcoming era. Recently, GSIS(Geo-Spatial Information System) has been applied and stressed out in various fields. As analyzed the data from GSIS arena, the position information of objects and targets is crucial and critical. Therefore, several methods of getting and knowing position are proposed and developed. From this perspective, Position collection and processing are the heart of 4S technology. We develop 4S-Van that enables real-time acquisition of position and attribute information and accurate image data in remote site. In this study, the configuration of 4S-Van equipped with GPS, INS, CCD and eye-safe laser scanner is shown and the merits of DGPS/INS integration approach for geo-referencing is briefly discussed. The algorithm of DGPS/INS integration fur determination of six parameters of motion is eccential in the 4S-Van to avoid or simplify the complicated computation such as photogrammetric triangulation. 4S-Van has the application of Laser-Mobile Mapping System for three-dimensional data acquisition that merges the texture information from CCD camera. The technique is also applied in the fields of virtual reality, car navigation, computer games, planning and management, city transportation, mobile communication, etc.

Towards Cyber Security Risks Assessment in Electric Utility SCADA Systems

  • This paper presents a unified model based assessment framework to quantify threats and vulnerabilities associated with control systems, especially in the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system. In the past, this system was primarily utilized as an isolated facility on a local basis, and then it started to be integrated with wide-area networks as the communication technology would make rapid progress. The introduction of smart grid, which is an innovative application of digital processing and communications to the power grid, might lead to more and more cyber threats originated from IT systems. However, an up-to-date power system often requires the real-time operations, which clearly implies that the cyber security would turn out to be a complicated but also crucial issue for the power system. In short, the purpose of this paper is to streamline a comprehensive approach to prioritizing cyber security risks which are expressed by the combination of threats, vulnerabilities, and values in the SCADA components.

  • This paper deals with an experimental study for on-line monitoring the performance of a universal motor for vacuum cleaner. Performance tests are conducted on the PC-based virtual instrumentation system designed using the graphical programming language LabVIEW. The proposed monitoring system is capable of performing real time measurement functions, including data acquisition, display, and analyses in the time and frequency domains, as well as data archiving. The measured mechanical and iron loss, voltage, current, input power, power factor, torque, and efficiency characteristics are presented as function of speed.

  • Because of the environmental matters the importance of the city railroad is as time goes by increasing. The case of obstacle of the power equipment which supplies electric power to city railroad will occur social and economical enormous loss. Thus, I studied on the preventing method in advance which makes it possible for us to maintain facilities efficiently. The main check points of the power facilities are voltage, current, humidity, partial discharge, move current. These points are gathered by sensor and transmitting to data acquisition device. These data are used to check equipment status in real time. In this paper I described in brief test process and results of the detection system.
