  • This paper introduces a real time inspecting and monitoring system by using wireless communication and image processing technique. The communication system is developed by using 80c196kc microprocessor and it has data acquisition function for several kinds of sensors such as pluviometer, temperature, tension meter, elinometer and so on. The image processing method adopts Lalacian of Gaussian operator and least square method to extract line features for the captured images and uses a relaxation matching algorithm based in global structure constraint satisfaction to distinguish the matching error for those features.   • In this paper, we present a method to estimate an accurate real-time sound source direction based on time delay of arrival by using generalized cross correlation with four cross-type microphones. In general, existing systems have two disadvantages such as system embedding limitation due to the necessity of data acquisition for signal processing from microphone input, and real-time processing difficulty because of the increased number of channels for sound direction estimation using DSP processors. To cope with these disadvantages, the system considered in this paper proposes hardware design for enhanced real-time processing using microphone array signal processing. An accurate direction estimation and its design time reduction is achieved by means of an efficient hardware design using spatial segmentation methods and verification techniques. Finally we develop a system which can be used for embedded systems using a sound codec and an FPGA chip. According to experimental results, the system gives much faster real-time processing time compared with either PC-based systems or the case with DSP processors.

  • This paper reviews Grammatical Mapping theory, a recently proposed theoretical paradigm for understanding children's acquisition of syntax, and ventures to apply the theory to the acquisition of semantics. Particularly, we focused on the domain of space, and proposed how children might acquire a unique system of spatial words in their mother tongue. Based on our review of evidence, we propose that there may be universal semantic primitives that serve as foundations of word meanings. We also propose that children must learn their mother tongue's semantic category system of spatial relations, from real time data. Finally, we argue that children's learning of word meanings may involve creation of a theory that makes sense to the child, and that this process of theory creation is possibly guided by universal principles and parameters.

  • This paper, UAVs of the secondary communication link that applies to the analysys of time-division communication system and communication method proposed algorithm has been developed. UAVs of the important characteristics of the data link latency and throughput, the frequency is availability, weight. The data needed to operate UAVs vehicle control data, status data, there is an acquisition. Control and data acquisition will require real-time communication. Based on the requirements being applied to the secondary communication link communication method were compared and analyzed. The results of analysis of ground-base TDD method is suitable.

  • This paper presents design and implementation methods of the eye-controlled mouse using the real-time tracking of the three dimensional gazing point. The proposed method is based on three dimensional data processing of eye images in the 3D world coordinates. The system hardware consists of two conventional CCD cameras for acquisition of stereoscopic image and computer for processing. And in this paper, the advantages of the proposed algorithm and test results are described.

  • Load modeling has a significant influence on power system analysis and control. In recent years, measurement-based load modeling has been widely practiced. In the load modeling algorithm, the model structure is determined and the parameters of the established model are estimated. For parameter estimation, least-squares optimization method is applied. The model parameters are estimated so that the error between the measured values and the predicted values is to be minimized. By introducing sliding window concept, on-line load modeling method can be performed which reflects the dynamic behaviors of loads in real-time. For the purpose of data acquisition, the measurement system including PMU is implemented in university level. In this paper, case studies are performed using real PMU data from Korea Univ. and Seoul National University of Science and Technology. The performances of modeling real and reactive power behaviors using exponential and ZIP load model are evaluated.

  • The object positional data in the form of digital imagery is processed and stored and is updated easily. The GPS, positioning system using satellites, is acquired its utilities in many parts because it is very easy to get the three dimensional coordinates using GPS around the world. For the effective acquisition of positional data to-ward objects in space, the automation of digital photogrammetry must be done and data acquisition and processing should be performed in real-time. In this study, the program is developed for automatic process of digital photogrammetry and the VAN that has CCD cameras and GPS receivers onboard is built for mobile positioning system. Also, the three dimensional positioning toward 20 objects which are vertical to the ground is done using left and right imagery of CCD cameras and GPS. For a base research in real-time photogrammetry, the three dimensional positioning is performed using continuous imagery and GPS and the three dimensional positioning accuracy is analyzed.

An experimental performance analysis of a cold region stationary photovoltaic system

  • A grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system comprised of multicrystalline silicon (mc-Si) modules was installed in a cold climate region in the U.S. This roof-mounted stationary PV system is a real-world application of PV for building energy generation in International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) Climate Zone 5 (and possibly similar climate zones such as 6, 7 and 8), and it served the purposes of research, demonstration, and education. The importance of this work is highlighted by the fact that there has been less emphasis on solar PV system in this region of the U.S. because of climate and latitude challenges. The system is equipped with an extensive data acquisition system capable of collecting performance and meteorological data while visually displaying real-time and historical data through an interactive online interface. Experimental data was collected and analyzed for the system over a one-year period with the focus of the study being on measurements of power production, energy generation, and efficiency. The annual average daily solar insolation incident upon the array was found to be $4.37kWh/m^2$. During the first year of operation, the PV system provided 5,801 kWh (1,264 kWh/kWp) of usable AC electrical energy, and it was found to operate at an annual average conversion efficiency and PR of 10.6 percent and 0.79, respectively. The annual average DC to AC conversion efficiency of the inverter was found to be 94 percent.

  • This paper presents a virtual instrumentation(VI) system for LIMs performance on-line monitoring. The VI is designed using the graphical programming language LabVIEW and is capable of performing on-line measurement functions, including data acquisition, display, and analyses in the time and frequency domains, as well as data archiving. To monitor in real time the steady-state and transient electromagnetic thrust of LIMs, the search coil is used for the determination of the flux linkage components, which is then multiplied by the appropriate current components to yield a signal proportional to the electromagnetic thrust. This paper reports the LIM's dynamics measured by the proposed on-line monitoring system.

Development and Validation of A Decision Support System for the Real-time Monitoring and Management of Reservoir Turbidity Flows: A Case Study for Daecheong Dam (실시간 저수지 탁수 감시 및 관리를 위한 의사결정지원시스템 개발 및 검증: 대청댐 사례)

  • Reservoir turbidity flows degrade the efficiency and sustainability of water supply system in many countries located in monsoon climate region. A decision support system called RTMMS aimed to assist reservoir operations was developed for the real time monitoring, modeling, and management of turbidity flows induced by flood runoffs in Daecheong reservoir. RTMMS consists of a real time data acquisition module that collects and stores field monitoring data, a data assimilation module that assists pre-processing of model input data, a two dimensional numerical model for the simulation of reservoir hydrodynamics and turbidity, and a post-processor that aids the analysis of simulation results and alternative management scenarios. RTMMS was calibrated using field data obtained during the flood season of 2004, and applied to real-time simulations of flood events occurred on July of 2006 for assessing its predictive capability. The system showed fairly satisfactory performance in reproducing the density flow regimes and fate of turbidity plumes in the reservoir with efficient computation time that is a vital requirement for a real time application. The configurations of RTMMS suggested in this study can be adopted in many reservoirs that have similar turbidity issues for better management of water supply utilities and downstream aquatic ecosystem.
