  • In the field of mobile games, social network games are steadily increasing in market scale and public interest every year. This paper proposes a method to design a social network game, which is one of the most successful genres in mobile games. The method uses Unity3D, the most commonly used engine for mobile game development. NGUI, a versatile developmental tool of Unity3D, is used to create shops and battle UIs. This paper particularly focuses on how to use the web hosting service to search and operate the necessary data from the database in the server. In addition, the proposed social network game is easy to implement real-time battle using Animator and Raycast, and is characterized by efficient battle implementation through time delay using Coroutine function.

  • In the majority of todays animation and computer games, the behaviours of characters are controlled by pre-defined game logic or pre-generated motion. As game developers strive for richer and more interactive games, they often encounter limitations with this approach. This paper attempts to construct a game model using Genetic Algorithms (GAs) in order to produce more intelligent and compelling computer games. Based on learning ability, the use of GAs will enable the characters to continually evolve, providing a changing and dynamic game environment. A real-time game was implemented to investigate the performance and limitations of the system.

  • The secondary animation technology for the detailed objects including accessories is being studied and applied to the modern game development. The jiggle-bone deformer is used for 3D graphic tools as a technology to create the animation of these objects, but it is disadvantageous in that the real-time modification is difficult and the graphic developers need much time. The secondary animation can also be realized using a physical game engine, but the cost of animation process increases when many objects in a scene of a game are rendered, and it has a low efficiency. This paper proposes a dynamic jiggle-bone animation algorithm, which can be modified in real time and has the similar effect to the physical game engine. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, tests were conducted with varied number of bones and for the case of one scene with the animation of many jiggle-bones, and the results were adjudged relatively efficient.

  • This research was conducted in an attempt to understand changes and growths of the self in on-line game world. Q methodology was used to investigate players in Mabinogi, which is an on-line game(MMORPG). Based on 57 behavior statements, Players distributed their changing experiences from when they were novices in on-line game world to the current state. In early start phase, they recognized that on-line game world was different from the reality. And they perceived their experiences in on-line game as separated from the real ones. However, as they spend more time in on-line game world, they began to realized that on-line game world is as real as the world because they function as an individual living in a society in both the game and the real world. They felt and learned that in on-line game life, they also need to follow the rules and order. In addition, trust and politeness were essential in order to live with other players. As time passed, the players realized that on-line game experiences have the same meanings and values as the real life ones. 3 types of self-changing patterns were found : Achievement change, Control change, and Relation change. The behavior patterns of the 3 types were then compared to Identify similarities and differences amongst them in psychological meanings and values in the on-line game life. This result illustrates that on-line game world can be defined as new behavioral setting or developmental context established by digital technology. In this new setting, people can experiment and understand their behavior patterns and also experience changes and growths of the self.

  • In this paper we propose the methodology for 3D background image construction in computer games. This methodology was developed based on TIP (Tour Into the Picture) using a vanishing line Proposed by Kang et at. The methodology Proposed in this study can simply implement a 3D background for a computer game with a background model which is very complex or based on a real picture. Compared to the graphics technologies generally used, the proposed methodology does not need the process of modeling elaborate 3D information of a background, and hence can display the background even on a low grade personal computer using a small reference image. TIP technology was successfully applied to the implementation of a background model for a computer game and was found to be appropriate especially for real time games.

  • This paper aims to design Game Rendering Engine for real-time 3D online games. Previous, in order to raise rendering speed, BSP tree was used to partitioned space in Quake Game Engine. A game engine is required to develop for rapidly escalating of 3D online games in Korea. too. Currently rendering time is saved with the hardware accelerator which is working on the high-level computer system. On the other hand, a game engine is needed to save rendering time for users with low-level computer system. Therefore, a game rendering engine is which reduces rendering time by PVS look-up table using Empty space BSP tree designed and implemented in this paper

  • Disney Animation has showed not only artistic excellence but also technological innovations through a lot of animation films that they released. Especially with the unique concept that free-willed game characters dive into different worlds of games in animation film, received both critical and commercial acclaim for its stunning visuals and outstanding CG (computer graphics) effects. The purpose of this study is to analyze different styles of game worlds, Disney's layout pipeline, and in-house camera capture system used in . This paper analyzes that three game worlds in this film such as Fix-It Felix Jr., Sugar Rush, and Hero's Duty express different styles by using appropriate character animation and camera movements. Especially Hero's Duty game which new in-house camera capture system is extensively used maximizes unseen visuals by perfectly making realistic and believable game world. Disney's newly developed in-house camera capture system, which is used in this film for the first time, allows real camera's motion and shake and real-time camera's movement and correction within animation set. Result of this study proves that this system improves directing of feature animation and enhance efficiency of the layout department's production process. Therefore, it contributes to a great extent to development of animation films' business.

  • The learning by computer games, is in the spotlight as an effective education method for the game generation. The educational games need to provide additionally an omniscient view of the learning as an objective viewpoint for storytelling of learning. The omniscient viewpoint needs good readability in real-time, and to provide systematically overall and detailed informations of learning. In this paper, we propose the visual learning map as the omniscient view for storytelling of learning. The proposed learning map is composed of the district map, the topic map, and the progress map for the omniscient view of the learning. The proposed learning map is represented by several visual diagrams for real-time readability. The proposed learning map can apply to all the educational games which provide the game minimaps.

  • Nowadays, many computer games based on NPR(Non-photorealistic Rendering) techniques have been developed due to their distinctive visual properties. However, only limited methods of NPR techniques have been exploited in producing computer games and amongst them cartoon-style rendering techniques especially has had the special interest. In the paper, we suggest an effective rendering method of comic-book style that will be applicable to computer game. In order to do, we first characterize the properties of comic-book from comparing two visuals: celluloid animation and comic-book. We then suggest a real-time rendering method of comic-book style represented by outline sketch, tone, and hatching. We finally examine its effectiveness by observing the game developed using the method.

  • The network performance of MOGs(Multiplayer Online Games) can be measured by the amount of network loads and the response times on user inputs. This paper introduces a frame locking algorithm and a game turn algorithm that have been used for game synchronization in the area of RTS(Real-time Strategy Simulation) Games, a kind of MOG; the results of performance evaluation of these two algorithms are also given. In addition, a server architecture for MOG servers in which replacing synchronization algorithms can be done easily for pursuing efficient performance evaluation, is also introduced.
