Development of a position sensitive CsI(Tl) crystal array

  • A position-sensitive CsI(Tl) crystal array coupled with the multi-anode position sensitive photomultiplier tube (PS-PMT), Hamamatsu H8500C, has been developed at the Institute of Modern Physics. An effective, fast, and economical readout circuit based on discretized positioning circuit (DPC) bridge was designed for the 64-channel multi-anode flat panel PSPMT. The horizontal and vertical position resolutions are 0.58 mm and 0.63 mm respectively for the 1.0 × 1.0 × 5.0 ㎣ CsI(Tl) array, and the horizontal and vertical position resolutions are 0.86 mm and 0.80 mm respectively for the 2.0 × 2.0 × 10.0 ㎣ CsI(Tl) array. These results show that the CsI(Tl) crystal array with low cost could be applied in the fields of medical imaging and high-resolution gamma camera.

  • The IRFPA (InfraRed Focal Plane Array) ROIC (ReadOut Integrated Circuit) was designed in folded-cascode Op-Amp using $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. As the folded-cascode has high open-loop voltage gain and fast settling time, that used in many analog circuit designs. In this paper, folded-cascode Op-Amp for ROIC of the $32{\times}32$ IRFPA has been designed. HSPICE simulation results are unit gain bandwidth of 13.0MHz, 90.6 dB open loop gain, 8 V/${\mu}m$ slew rate, 600 ns settling time and $66^{\circ}$ phase margin.

다중양극 위치민감형 광전자증배관을 위한 위치검출회로 개발 (Development of Position Encoding Circuit for a Multi-Anode Position Sensitive Photomultiplier Tube)

  • 목적: 소동물용 PET은 우수한 공간분해 능과, 민감도가 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 256개의 개별적 채널을 4개로 줄여 검출위치를 추정할 수 있는 회로를 설계하고 제작하였으며, 256($16{\times}16$)개의 양극 출력 채널을 가지는 고집적도의 광전자증배관 및 $L_{0.9}GSO$ 섬광결정과 결합하여 그 성능을 검증하였다. 대상 및 방법: 설계한 회로를 제작하기에 맞서 전자회로 시뮬레이션을 통해 성능을 예상하였다. 회로의 검증과 성능분석을 위하여 위치결정회로, H9500(Hamamatsu Photorucs K.K., 일본) 광전자증배관, $1.5{\times}1.5{\times}7.0\;mm^3$ $L_{0.9}GSO$ 섬광결정으로 두 개의 검출단을 제작하고 $3.7{\times}10^5$ Bq의 $^{22}Na$ 방사선원을 사용하여 동시이벤트를 검출하였다. 첫 번째 검출단은 $L_{0.9}GSO\;29{\times}29$ 섬광결정블록을 단층으로 구성하였고, 두 번째 검출단은 $L_{0.9}GSO\;29{\times}29$$28{\times}28$ 섬광결정블록을 x와 y방향으로 각각 섬광결정 단면 길이의 반만큼 오프셋을 두어 접합하였다. 또한 측정된 데이터를 실제 섬광결정 영역으로 보정하기 위하여 섬광결정지도를 구했다. 결과: 평면영상을 통해 각 섬광결정들이 잘 구분되는 것을 확인할 수 있었고, 회로 개선 후 주변부의 섬광결정들이 마지막 줄까지 명백히 구분되었다. 각 섬광결정들의 에너지 분해능은 11.6%(표준편차 1.6)이었다. 결론: 본 연구에서 제안한 위치결정회로는 실험을 통해 소동물용 PET개발에 있어 만족할만한 성능을 보여주었다. 향후 더욱 정밀한 시스템을 제작하기 위해서는 다중양극 광전자증배관의 이득 불균일을 보정하기 위한 연구가 진행되어야 할 것이다.

아날로그 메모리를 이용한 DC-DC컨버터 제어기 설계 (Design of DC-DC converter controller implemented with analog memory)

  • 본 연구에서는 아날로그 메모리를 이용한 DC-DC 컨버터 제어기를 설계하였다. 이 방식은 기존의 폐루프 방식의 컨버터 제어기가 안고 있는 안정도 문제를 근본적으로 해결하는데 기여하게 될 것이다. 본 연구에서 아날로그 메모리는 컨버터의 출력과 이에 대응되는 최적의 시비율 판단을 위한 연상메모리를 구현하는데 이용된다. 메모리의 읽기 동작은 연상메모리의 최적 함수 선택을 위하여 절대값 회로와 승자전취 메커니즘 회로가 사용되며, 병렬의 고속 쓰기와 읽기 동작뿐만 아니라 고집적을 가능하게 하는 시스템 구성이 제안된다.

Radiation-hardened-by-design preamplifier with binary weighted current source for radiation detector

  • This paper presents a radiation-hardened-by-design preamplifier that utilizes a self-compensation technique with a charge-sensitive amplifier (CSA) and replica for total ionizing dose (TID) effects. The CSA consists of an operational amplifier (OPAMP) with a 6-bit binary weighted current source (BWCS) and feedback network. The replica circuit is utilized to compensate for the TID effects of the CSA. Two comparators can detect the operating point of the replica OPAMP and generate appropriate signals to control the switches of the BWCS. The proposed preamplifier was fabricated using a general-purpose complementary metal-oxide-silicon field effect transistor 0.18 ㎛ process and verified through a test up to 230 kGy (SiO2) at a rate of 10.46 kGy (SiO2)/h. The code of the BWCS control circuit varied with the total radiation dose. During the verification test, the initial value of the digital code was 39, and a final value of 30 was observed. Furthermore, the preamplifier output exhibited a maximum variation error of 2.39%, while the maximum rise-time error was 1.96%. A minimum signal-to-noise ratio of 49.64 dB was measured.

비냉각 열 영상 시트템용 BSCT $320{\times}240$ IR-FPA의 구현 (Implementation of BSCT $320{\times}240$ IR-FPA for Uncooled Thermal Imaging System)

  • 적외선 열 영상 system에서 가장 핵심이 되는 BSCT 320X240 IRFPA를 구현하였다. 검출기 module은 두 개의 부분, 즉 적외선 감지 pixel의 array와 감지된 신호를 읽어내는 ROIC로 구성된다. 50-${\mu}m$의 pitch와 95-%의 fill-factor를 만족하도록, laser scriber공정과 10-${\mu}m$ 크기의 ball을 갖는 micro bump공정을 적용하였다. ROIC는 선택된 신호를 읽어서 순차적으로 출력하게 설계되었으며, 단일 transistor amplifier, HPF, tunable LPF 그리고 clamp circuit를 삽입하여 SNR이 개선되도록 설계하였다. Detector와 ROIC의 결합으로 제작된 hybrid chip은 좀더 안정한 동작을 하도록 TEC가 내장된 ceramic package에 탑재하였다. 제작된 IRFPA sample은 원하는 특성을 만족하였으며, 특히 fill-factor, 탐지도, 반응도면에서 설계의 목표에 잘 근사함을 알 수 있었다.

  • We present a design study for a remote sensing camera system which can be operated in multi-channel mode simultaneously with several bandpass filters. The camera control electronics is based on the multiplexed driving concept, which can provide a variety of flexibility for system control parameters and its individual optimisation. The design can also be applied to any system with linear sensors or frame sensors according to its functional requirements. The system design parameters have been examined, including modification of driving waveforms for different types of sensors, waveforms for low-nosie readout circuit in analog chain, and synchronisation with other signal processing.

Pair-Wise Serial ROIC for Uncooled Microbolometer Array

  • This work presents modelling and simulation of a readout integrated circuit (ROIC) design considering pair-wise serial configuration along with thermal modeling of an uncooled microbolometer array. A fully differential approach is used at the input stage in order to reduce fixed pattern noise due to the process variation and self-heating-related issues. Each pair of microbolometers is pulse-biased such that they both fall under the same self-heating point along the self-heating trend line. A ${\pm}10%$ process variation is considered. The proposed design is simulated with a reference input image consisting of an array of $127{\times}92$ pixels. This configuration uses only one unity gain differential amplifier along with a single 14-bit analog-to-digital converter in order to minimize the dynamic range requirement of the ROIC.

Angle-sensitive Pixels Based on Subwavelength Compound Gratings

  • In this paper, we present a new design for angle-sensitive pixels (ASPs). The proposed ASPs take advantage of subwavelength compound gratings to capture the light angle, which enables pixel size to reach the wavelength scale of 0.7 ㎛ × 0.7 ㎛. The subwavelength compound gratings are implemented by the wires of the readout circuit inherent to the standard complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor manufacturing process, thus avoiding additional off-chip optics or post-processing. This technique allows the use of two pixels for horizontal or vertical angle detection, and can determine the light's angle in the range from -45° to +45°. The proposed sensor enables surface-profile reconstruction of microscale samples using a lensless imaging system.

  • Due to changes in the form factor of display panels and touch screen panels in various devices, capacitive touch systems have evolved to address various issues such as low power consumption, noise immunity, and small chip size. Furthermore, some devices have applications that use a stylus. Since the stylus operates similarly to a finger touch, it encounters similar issues. Recent research trends focus on addressing key issues such as noise, which is primarily caused by the self-capacitor formed between the display cathode and the touch screen panel. In this paper, Various research papers discussing methods to eliminate external noise will be reviewed. These advancements enhance noise immunity in touch systems, making it easier to use thinner and more flexible panels. These progress make touch technology more versatile and reliable in various applications.
