  • It is undeniably important to bring up a solution capability of arithmetic word problems in the elementary mathematical education. The goal of this study is to acquire the implication for remedial instruction on arithmetic word problems solving through surveying elementary school students' difficulties in the solving of arithmetic word problems. In order to do it, this study was intended to analyze the following two aspects. First, it was analyzed that they generally felt more difficulties in which field among addition, subtraction, multiplication and division word problems. Second, with the result of the first analysis, it was examined that they solved it by imagining as which sphere of the other word problems. Also, the cause of their error on the word problem solving was analyzed by the interview. From the foregoing analyses, the following implications for remedial instruction on arithmetic word problems solving are acquired. First, the accumulation of learning deficiency must be diminished through the remedial instruction. Second, it must help students to understand the given problem and to make of what the goal of problem is. Third, it must help students to form a good habit for reading the problem and to understand the context of problem. forth, the teacher must help students to review and reflect their problem-solving processes.

  • Objective : This study is planned to determine the neurocognitive difficulties of hydrocephalic adults. Methods : The research group contained healthy adults (control group, n : 15), and hydrocephalic adults (n : 15). Hydrocephalic group consisted of patients with idiopathic aquaduct stenosis and post-meningitis hydrocephalus. All patients were followed with shunted hydrocephalus and not gone to shunt revision during last two years. They were chosen from either asymptomatic or had only minor symptoms without motor and sensorineural deficit. A neuropsychological test battery (Raven Standart Progressive Matrices, Bender-Gestalt Test, Cancellation Test, Clock Drawing Test, Facial Recognition Test, Line Orientation Test, Serial Digit Learning Test, Stroop Color Word Interference Test-TBAG Form, Verbal Fluency Test, Verbal Fluency Test, Visual-Aural Digit Span Test-B) was applied to all groups. Results : Neuropsychological assessment of hydrocephalic patients demonstrated that they had poor performance on visual, semantic and working memory, visuoconstructive and frontal functions, reading, attention, motor coordination and executive function of parietal lobe which related with complex and perseverative behaviour. Eventually, these patients had significant impairment on the neurocognitive functions of their frontal, parietal and temporal lobes. On the other hand, the statistical analyses performed on demographic data showed that the aetiology of the hydrocephalus, age, sex and localization of the shunt (frontal or posterior parietal) did not affect the test results. Conclusion : This prospective study showed that adult patients with hydrocephalus have serious neuropsychological problems which might be directly caused by the hydrocephalus; and these problems may cause serious adaptive difficulties in their social, cultural, behavioral and academic life.

  • Listening comprehension is an integrative and creative process of interaction through which listeners receive speakers' production of linguistic or non-linguistic knowledge. Compared with reading comprehension, it may arouse difficulties and thus impose more burdens on foreign learners. The Audio-Lingual Method focused primarily on speaking. Mimicry, repetition, rote memory, and transformation drills actually interfered with listening comprehension. So learners lost interest and were not highly motivated. Improving listening comprehension requires continual attentiveness and interest. Listening skill can be extended systematically only when students are frequently exposed to a wide range of listening materials with an affective, cultural, social, and psycholinguistic approach. Therefore, teachers should help students learn how to comprehend intactly the overall meaning of intended messages. The literature on teaching listening skill suggests various useful activities: TPR, dictation, role playing, singing, picture recognition, completion, prediction, seeking specific information, summarizing, labeling, humor, jokes, cartoons, media, and so on. Practical classroom teaching necessitates a systematic procedure in which students should take part in meaningful tasks/activities. In addition to this, learners must practice listening comprehension trough a self-study process.

  • CT/MRI images were frequently taken to evaluate the anatomic structure and disease status, and to plan the treatment modality for oral and maxillofacial surgery. However, surgeons have many difficulties in reading and understanding 2D images without long time experiences. This study presents the method of 3D reconstruction with fine CT slices and its clinical application. We applied this method a clinical patient with oral and maxillofacial trauma and produced 3D reconstructed model which shows the fracture line in panfacial area and bone defect.

  • A direct-reading conductance measuring system using a potentiostatic circuit and a four-electrode conductance cell was devised. The difficulties with the traditional method of using the Wheatston bridge and a two-electrode cell due to the complicated nature of the electrochemical system, the double layer capacitance and the Faradaic impedance at the electrodes, etc., could be avoided in this method. The devised instrument proved to be convenient and suitable for precise measurements. The results of measured conductivities of KCl and HCl solutions are reported.

  • The Bourdon tube pressure gauge is the most widely used primary detector for pressure in various kinds of fields recently. However in many cases lots of difficulties are encountered in telemetering, measuring the continuously changing pressure and recording as time goes by, etc. In this paper a Bourdon tube of flat-oval section is considered. On the basis of Wolf's theory, the very sensitive places are selected on the tube and full bridge arrangement is used. Then all of the characteristics are examined in order to use the pressure transducer practically into which the pressure gauge is converted. From the results, the error in meter reading is about $\pm$3% F.S., on the other hand, when measured with strain gauge, the error is within $\pm$1% F.S.. Also external acceleration on Bourdon tube hardly affect practical use.

  • This study is to inquire into the publishing situation and developmental plans of korean magazine of Joseon people (Korean) in China, About twenty types of magazines for Joseon people(Korean) in China have been published since the liberation of China. These magazines have mainly brought changes such as publication suspensions, reissuing, and renaming in reflection of reading classes and political influence. Also, when classified by topic, the mainstream includes magazines of political. cultural, and art fields. On one hand, difficulties in magazine publication come from a decrease in the Korean Chinese population, population movements, support reduction and abolition from the Chinese government and increases in material costs. To overcome this, Korean reading classes should be secured and a magazine composed in two languages(Chinese-Korean) should be published to pioneer active cultural exchange in and out of China, and various forms of support should be devised from Korea.

  • This study is about the Novel Engineering(NE) education program : a class model that combines reading and engineering. By including the process of directly designing and programming a virtual reality using CospacesEdu (a VR authoring tool for the NE class), the effects of the educational program on learners' STEAM literacy and Learning immersion are demonstrated. Moreover, the subject of this education is Dokdo in South Korea. As a result, the average of STEAM literacy is increased, and a significant change is confirmed statistically in Convergence. Learning immersion shows significant improvement in Challenges-skills balance. On the other hand, some students experience difficulties due to the long research stages, from reading a book to researching for information to designing VR and rewriting a story with the collected information. In conclusion, this study will help generalise other education using NE, and this developed program will be a reference that would suggest a new way of teaching.

  • Sookmyung Women's University Library developed a Cyber Learning Program for Information Literacy Education in the Fall semester of 2004. The program was enforced as a pass/fail prerequisite of the "Reading & Writing", a compulsory course for the first-year students. The paper describes why and how the university reached to the decision to initiate such a program. It identifies the factors which contributed to the early success of the program by analyzing the contents development process and the actual course management process. Suggestions for further developments is made by analyzing the technical and procedural difficulties faced using the Learning Management System(LMS).
