Development of Adult Authentication System using Numeral Recognition (숫자인식을 이용한 성인인증기 개발)

  • This paper describes the development of adult authentication system using numerical recognition. Nowadays, the automats are very popular and they are dealing in many item suck as coffee, soft drinks, alcoholic drinks and cigarettes, etc. Among these items, some are harmful to the minor, and so the sale of these to the minor must be prohibited. In relation to this, adult authentication system is required to be equipped to the automat which deals in items harmful to minor. According to these demands, we develop the adult authentication system. This system capture the image of a residence certificate card by the identification card-reader, and recognize its numbers and identify it as adult or minor by main computer, where numeral recognition is accomplished by using image processing methods and neural network recognizer. The characteristic test of the system is carried out, and its result reveals that the system has the error of less than 1%. Thus, It is thought that the system can be used for identifying adult in the automats.

Portable RFID Reader for 900MHz Band (900MHz 대역용 휴대용 RFID 리더)

  • In this paper, a portable RFID reader which operated in 900MHz UHF band is designed and fabricated and the characteristics of the manufactured portable RFID reader is analyzed through measurement. Analysis of measurements results is achieved based on EPC Class 0 standards that proposed by EPC Global. The proposed RFID reader communicate with tags about 11kbps speed, and have 20 dBm for its maximum RF output power. The proposed portable RFID reader can recognize maximum 68 tags per second, and when reader's output power is 20 dBms, maximum recognition distance is 30cm. And the total size of implemented RFID reader is $71mm{\times}55mm$, that is the maximum 90%, minimum 14% reduced size compared with marketed product.

  • Newspaper reader mobile applications using text-to-speech (TTS) function enable blind people to read newspaper contents. But, tables cannot be easily read by the reader program because most of the tables are stored as images in the contents. Even though we try to use OCR (Optical character reader) programs to recognize letters from the table images, it cannot be simply applied to the table reading function because the table structure is unknown to the readers. Therefore, identification of exact location of each table cell that contains the text of the table is required beforehand. In this paper, we propose an efficient image processing algorithm to recognize all the cells in tables by identifying columns and rows in table images. From the cell location data provided by the table column and row identification algorithm, we can generate table structure information and table reading scenarios. Our experimental results with table images found commonly in newspapers show that our cell identification approach has 100% accuracy for simple black and white table images and about 99.7% accuracy for colored and complicated tables.

  • Recently as increasing the use of mobile communication devices the use of mobile readers for recognition tag attached to objects is also increasing. Accordingly, meantime, that gives rise to the vulnerability of RFID systems between reader and tag security issues, as well as security issues between the reader and the back-end server will occur. In this paper between the reader and the back-end server to security vulnerabilities efficient authentication protocol using the hash function is proposed.

  • In this paper, it has a proposal of the RFID reader antenna design that expand the dedicated short-range communication distance between a static object on the ground and a mobile object attached on the moving article. The static reader equipped with micro-processor makes it possible to have a serial communication with a main system, so that much data can be transfer to the main system. An antenna is adjusted in order to a communication, the scale is designed by results values of simulation using matlab. It is achieved to systematically manage logistics, person resource and security system by grasping the information and location of mobile object on the basis that this system receives the information between a static reader and a mobile object tag at 134.2kHz band on real time, also to make it possible the main system to process. Therefore, the reader antenna scale is controlled on the foundation of a magnetic field theory in order to expand a recognition distance of reader and tag, so that can be optimistically recognized with minimizing the direction influence of reader and tag.

  • This paper proposed a new transponder detection method to reduce tag recognition time and simplify anti-collision process in RFID systems. In conventional systems, a transponder in detectable area is passively recognized by responding to a reader command. In addition, if there are multiple tags in the area, a collision between tags occurs by responding at the same time to a command and anti-collision process begins. In the proposed method, tags are actively recognized without any command from a reader which results to reducing a tag recognition time and simplifying anti-collision process. To compare transponder recognition time, the process of transponder recognition in conventional systems is analysed. A circuit to detect transponder directly is developed and antenna voltage variation of a reader in the appearance of multiple transponders is analysed for the implementation of the proposed method.

  • When an RFID reader uses the same frequency or adjacent frequency with neighbor readers, the interference might occur. These interferences cause the RFID reader collision and errors during tag recognition. Therefore, the international standard for RFID and some papers proposed the methods to reduce the reader collision. The reader interference is closely related to the distance between the readers haying interference and used frequency band. In the previous RFID reader anti-collision algorithms, the location of readers inducing interference which is closely related to interference of readers is not considered. Only the reader collision is tried to reduce through frequency transfer after collisions occur or modification of frame size in relation to collision probability based a TDM(Time Division Multiplex). In this paper, the genetic algorithm using two-dimensional chromosome which reflect readers' location is proposed to prevent reader collision effectively. By executing evolutionary operation with two-dimensional chromosome, the location information having influence on reader interference can be used. The repair operation in the proposed algorithm makes all reader stably recognize their tags.

Tag Identification Scheme based on Multi-Reader for Reducing Tag Authentication Time (태그 인증 시간 단축을 위한 다중 리더 기반의 태그 인식 기법)

  • The use of RFID is recently increasing for the realization of Ubiquitous computing. Reducing the process time of tag recognition is crucial as RFID system has to recognize multiple objects in a short amount of time. In this manuscript, therefore, an effective scheme using multi-reader is suggested to improve processing speed for tag authentication in RFID system. According to the result of performance analysis, the processing time required for tag authentication was drastically reduced in multi-reader environment than it was in a single reader. Consequently, the use of the suggested scheme cuts down on the processing time while identifying tags by using multi-reader and bring about overall performnce improvement of RFID system.

  • RFID reader platform with self-diagnosis function studied in this paper has an automatic state recognition function, a report function, and an automatic upgrade function. Also, since it uses frequency operation policy in multiple reader environments, it will be frequently used in the large operation environment and multi-readers environment. Therefore, the technology can meet the demands not only in the domestic RFID market, but in the global market.

Collecting Travel Time Data of Mine Equipments in an Underground Mine using Reverse RFID Systems (Reverse RFID 시스템을 이용한 지하광산에서의 장비 이동시간 측정)

  • In this study, travel time data collection of mine equipments was conducted in an underground mine using a reverse Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) system. In the reverse RFID system, RFID readers and antennas are mounted on mine equipments, and RFID tags are attached to the underground mine gallery. Indoor experiments were performed to analyze how RFID reader transmission power levels affect tag readable area and tag recognition rates. The results showed that travel time measurement become precise when the reader transmission power was reduced, however tag recognition rates were reduced. The field experiments indicated that setting the reader transmission power to 28 dBm maintained the tag recognition rate while minimizing the tracking location error. In addition, the results revealed that the reverse RFID system can be used successfully in an underground mine to collect the travel time data of haulage trucks.
