  • 본 논문에서는 저출력 모바일 RFID 리더의 인식 거리를 확대시키기 위하여 20Watts 급의 전력 공급용 RF Shower 시스템을 개발하였으며, 실험을 통하여 Shower 시스템의 출력을 조절하면 리더-태그 간 인식거리가 3배 이상 늘어나는 것을 확인하였다. 향후 RF Shower 시스템을 이용하여 Shower Zone 설계를 적절히 함으로써 저출력 리더(20dBm이하)를 사용하면서 기존 RFID 시스템의 인식거리를 획기적으로 확장할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Effect of language on fundamental frequency: Comparison between Korean and English produced by L2 speakers and bilingual speakers

  • This study aims to examine whether the fundamental frequency (F0) varies depending on languages or distinguishes between L1 (first language) and L2 (second language) speech and whether the type of materials which vary in control of consonant voicing affects the use of F0-especially, mean F0. For this purpose, we compared productions of two languages produced by Korean L2 learners of English to those of Korean-English bilingual speakers. Twelve Korean L2 speakers of English and twelve Korean-English bilingual speakers participated in this study. The subjects read aloud 22 declarative sentences-balanced and unbalanced-once in English and once in Korean. Mean F0 of Korean was higher than that of English for both speaker groups, and the difference in the value of mean F0 between the Korean and English sentences was different depending on the type of materials that the participants read. With regard to F0 range, the L2 speakers had a larger F0 range in English than in Korean; however, the effect of language on F0 range was not statistically significant for the bilingual speakers. These results indicate that language-specific properties may affect the use of F0, in particular, mean F0.

수생태계 부영양화 분석을 위한 비색법 기반의 광학식 센서 신호처리회로(ROIC)구현 (Read-Out Integrated Circuit of Colorimetry-Based Optical Sensor for Eutrophication Analysis)

  • In this study, a read-out integrated circuit (ROIC) that can be applied to a colorimetry-based optical sensor for analyzing total phosphorus and total nitrogen was developed and characterized. The proposed ROIC minimizes the effect on temperature fluctuation, improves sensitivity, and extends the dynamic range by utilizing a dual optical path and feedback control circuit. Using a dual optical path makes it possible to calibrate the output signal of the optical sensor automatically, along with the temperature fluctuation. The calibrated voltage is fed back into the measurement stage; thus, the output current of the measurement is adaptively controlled. As a result, the sensitivity and dynamic range of the proposed ROIC are improved. Finally, a total-phosphorus analysis was conducted by utilizing the ROIC. The ROIC was found to operate stably over a wide temperature range.

The Perception and Production of Vietnamese Tones by Japanese, Lao and Taiwanese Second Language Speakers

  • This study investigates the production and perception of Vietnamese tones by Japanese, Lao, and Taiwanese second language (L2) learners [n=30], comparing their performance in an Imitation task to that of Identification and Read-Aloud tasks. The results show that the Imitation task is generally easier for L2 speakers than the Identification and Read-Aloud tasks, suggesting that imitation is performed without some of the skills required by the other two tasks. It is also found that Lao and Taiwanese speakers outperform Japanese speakers, suggesting that prior experience with one tone language facilitates the acquisition of tone in another language. The result on speakers' tonal range show that L2 leaners have significantly narrower tonal F0 range than control Vietnamese speakers [n=11]. The results of error pattern analysis and tonal transcription also suggest that non-modal voice (glottal stop and creakiness) and contour tones (bidirectional fall-rise) are more difficult for L2 learners than modal voice tones (e.g., unidirectional contours: rising, falling, and level).

다양한 실험조건을 고려한 동결 사질토의 열전도도 산정에 대한 연구 (Study on the Thermal Conductivity of Frozen Soil Considering Various Experimental Conditions)

  • 지반구조물의 해석에 있어서 해석의 고려 대상과 분야가 점점 다변화되고 있으며, 특히 지반동결과 관련된 분야에서 지반재료의 열적거동 특성에 대한 예측의 필요성이 중요해지고 있다. 신뢰성 있는 지반의 동결거동 평가를 위해서는 다양한 조건에서의 시료의 유효 열전도도 변화에 대한 고려가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 시료의 간극률, 초기 포화도, Read time 설정을 달리하여 탐침 실험을 수행하였고, 이를 통해 동결 사질토의 유효 열전도도에 영향을 미치는 인자들을 평가하였다. 서로 다른 간극률 조건에서 실험을 수행한 결과, 시료의 간극률이 작을수록 동결토의 유효 열전도도는 증가하는 경향이 나타났다. 반면, 시료의 포화도가 증가할수록 동결토의 유효 열전도도는 증가하였다. 유효 열전도도 측정에 대한 계측기 Read time 설정의 민감도가 존재하였는데, Read time을 1분으로 설정하여 측정하였을 때 측정값의 범위가 국내의 선행연구결과와 유사하게 나타났다.

마이크로 홀로그래픽 시스템에서 미디어의 소진효과 (Effect of dynamic range consumption for microholographic data storage system)

  • In microholographic data storage system (MDSS), compact recording is required to achieve high capacity.[1] When the data is recorded, neighbor monomer is also affected by reaction at the focal point.[2,3] This unintended process caused more monomer consumption and degradation of total capacity. To avoid this extra consumption of dynamic range, it is required to define the effective dynamic range for MDSS. In this paper, we experimentally investigate the relation between dynamic range consumption and micro grating formation. Dynamic range consumption was monitored by real time read-out system. Micrograting was recorded with different consumption ratio and compared by diffraction efficiency of track direction. Finally, we define suitable dynamic range for MDSS.

병렬 공간 색인을 위한 검색 기법 (Search scheme for parallel spatial index)

  • 디클러스터링과 병렬 색인 구조는 효과적인 대용량 데이터의 검색을 위한 데이터베이스의 중요한 연구 분야이다. 기존의 연구에서 다중 디스크에서 다양한 방법들을 이용하여 R-tree등의 색인을 위한 다양한 방법들이 제시되었으나, 이에 적절한 검색 기법에 관한 연구는 거의 없었다. 이 연구에서는 기존의 연구에서 제시된 병렬 공간 색인 구조에서 검색 성능을 향상시킬 수 있는 새로운 검색 기법을 제시한다. 제시된 기법은 디스크로부터 동시에 여러 개의 노드를 읽어 들일 수 있는 병렬 디스크의 장점을 최대한 활용한 기법이다. 기존의 한번에 한 노드를 읽는 알고리즘을 개선하여 여러 노드를 동시에 접근하기 위한 최적화된 기법이다 실험을 통하여 제시된 기법은 기존의 연구에서 제시된 알고리즘들을 검색 기법의 변경을 통하여 최대 40%이상의 성능 향상을 유발함을 입증하였다.

Pressured or Pleasure Reading: A Survey of Reading Preferences of Secondary School Students during COVID-19 Lockdown

  • The study was a descriptive cross-sectional survey which investigated the reading preferences of secondary school students in Nigeria during the lockdown occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic. A hundred secondary school students in Ile- Ife and Ilesa in Osun State, Nigeria were the study respondents. Close ended self-administered questionnaire was used to obtain data. Of the one hundred questionnaire which were applied to the study respondents, ninety-three were retrieved. Data obtained were analyzed using simple frequencies and percentages. The study established that majority of respondents were not pressured to read but read for pleasure. Preference for a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books which was read for purposes ranging from academic, social, relaxation and information was indicated by respondents. Availability of reading materials determined reading preference of majority of respondents as many could not afford to access electronic books whether free or not. The researchers recommended that different types of reading materials that suit the reading preferences and meet the diverse purpose of reading should be provided for the secondary school students during lockdown to improve their reading habits. Public libraries should function during this lock down period within the guidelines of the appropriate health authorities, while school libraries should be equipped to offer virtual services during the lockdown and the students should be exposed to e-books for their reading pleasure.

Effects of a Metal Plane on a Meandered Slot Antenna for UHF RFID Applications

  • In this paper, the effects of a metal plane on the performance of a meandered slot RFID antenna are evaluated in a real environment, and 3 metal plane cases are considered (the most likely scenarios in which metal conductive materials are placed near the tag antenna). The metal plane effects can be categorized as matching degradation and antenna gain variation. First, matching degradation due to the antenna's induced mutual impedance is experimentally investigated. In addition, the gain variation is investigated to figure out the change in the radiation characteristics. With the derived antenna parameters, the read range is calculated with the Friis transmission equation and measured to analyze the effects of a metal plane on RFID system performance. The calculated and measured read range varies from 9.3 m to 19.1 m as the distance between the RFID antenna and the metal plane changes.

고속 UHF RFID 태그 검사 장비를 위한 전용 리더 (A Specialized Reader for High Speed UHF RFID Tag Inlay Inspection Equipment)

  • RFIDs have not become widespread as expected partly due to the cost, size, read range, and reliability problems of tags. The success rate of reading must be improved in order for RFIDs to be widely adopted. Quality control of tags is crucial to meet this requirement. In this study, we designed and implemented a high-performance reader used in inspection equipment that conducts prior inspection of tags. To improve performance of the developed reader, the baseband modem and command processor (CP) were designed using H/W logic and implemented with FPGA. The inspection of small pitch inlays was made possible through the antenna shielding device and H/W command processor function. This equipment enables accurate evaluation of performance and identification of tags satisfying a given read range. By contributing to sort out defective tags, the results can ultimately lead to more stable RFID services.
