The oxidation of carbon monoxide of low concentration on the natural manganese dioxide (NMD) has been investigated in a fixed bed reactor. The experimental variables were concentration of oxygen (500ppm~99.8%) and carbon monoxide (500ppm~10000ppm) and catalyst temperature ($50{\sim}750^{\circ}C$). The NMD(Natural Manganese Dioxide) has been characterized by temperature - program reduction(TPR) using 2.4% $CO/H_2$ as a reducing agent, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and reduction of NMD by 2.4% $CO/H_2$. It was found that the NMD catalyst activity on the unit area was greater than the $MnO_2$ catalyst for oxidation of CO at the same temperature. The thermal stability of oxidation activity was considered to be maintained when the NMD was heated to $750^{\circ}C$. The TGA, reduction by CO, and TPR of the NMD showed that the NMD had active lattice oxygen which was easily liberated on heating in the absence and low concentration of oxygen. The reaction order in CO is 0.701 between 500~3500ppm and almost zero between 3500~10000ppm of CO.

In this study, the performance and microbial community of anaerobic digestion fed by food waste leachate at low organic loading rate were investigated with and without internal pH control. Experimental results show that similar biogas yield was achieved in both reactors regardless of increase in pH, the concentrations of free ammonia and volatile fatty acids in case of without internal pH controlled one. The results of a methanogenic community analysis by Polymerase Chain Reaction and Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis revealed that the apparent preponderance of Methanosarcina sp. could be one of reasons for the maintenance of reactor stability.
In order to compare the germination and growth rate of the sprouts soaked in highly concentrated oxygen water, it with specific amounts of oxygen dissolved was produced in a high pressure reactor by pressuring oxygen. The sprouts were observed after being soaked in $20^{\circ}C$ oxygen water with 20, 30, 40, 50 ppm of oxygen dissolved each. Results of ten days later indicate that the final germination rate of the sprout soaked in 50 ppm oxygen water was $24.6{\sim}28.6%$ higher than that of the sprout soaked in distilled water. The final growth length also measured 6-7 mm higher than the sprout soaked in distilled water, demonstrating that enough supply of oxygen to the sprout induces stability and efficiency in its growth.
CVD-SiC coating has been introduced as a protective layer in TRISO nuclear fuel particle of high temperature gas cooled reactor (HTGR) due to its excellent mechanical stability at high temperature. In order to prevent the failure of the TRISO particles, it is important to evaluate the fracture strength of the SiC coating layer. It is needed to develop a new simple characterization technique to evaluate the mechanical properties of the coating layer as a pre-irradiation step. In present work, direct strength measurement method with the specimen of hem i-spherical shell configuration was suggested. The indentation experiment on a hemisphere shell with a plate indenter was conducted. The fracture strength of the coating layer is related with the critical load for radial cracking of the shell. The finite element analysis was used to drive the semi-empirical equation for the strength measurement. The SiC hemispherical shells were successfully recovered from the section-grinding of TRISO coated particle and successive heat treatment in air. The strength of CVD-SiC coating layer was evaluated from the experimentally measured critical load during the indentation on SiC hemisphere shell. Weibull diagram of fracture strength was also constructed. This study suggested a new strength equation and experimental method to measure the fracture strength of CVD-SiC coating of TRISO coated fuel particles.
Endoinulase from Streptomyces sp. S56 was immobilized by adsorption on DEAE-cellulose in 0.01 M citrate-sodium phosphate buffer, pH 6.0 and the properties of immobilized and free enzymes were investigated. The immobilized enzyme preparation, having 40 inulase activity units per dried matrix, revealed the maximal activity at $pH\;4.5{\sim}5.5$ and $55{\sim}60^{\circ}C$ and were most stable at pH 6 and 45^{\circ}C$. The immobilization caused a drop in optimum pH and affinity toward inulin, a slight increase in optimum temperature, an important increase in thermal stability and maximum reaction velocity. The immobilized endoinulase hydrolyzed the tuber extract of jerusalem artichoke and inulin, mainly into fructose and inulobise, degrading 63 and 78% of the total sugar respectively, within 48 hrs in batch reactor.
Glucoamylases catalyze a stepwise hydrolysis of starch with the production of glucose. In order to make an efficient conversion of starch into glucose, glucoamylases prepared from Rhizopus spp. (Sigma Co.) were attached to a porous glass and immobilized by glutaraldehyde-induced crosslinking. The porous glass used in this study was $ZrO_2$ coated, $40{\sim}80$ mesh, 550 A pore diameter. Using the forgoing glass, we could couple as much as 50mg of protein per gram of carrier. Substrate for the glucoamylase was an enzyrne-modified thin-toiling 30% cornstarch solution used where greater solubility and low viscosity are desired. Immobilized glucoamylase had an optimum pH 7.0 to the alkaline side of soluble enzyme. Km values of immobilized and soluble enzyme were 1.04 mM and 1.25mM, respectively. The thermal stability of glucoamylase was increased by immobilization and the immobilized enzyme showed an optimum temperature at $40{\sim}60^{\circ}C$. The continuous conversion of cornstarch to glucose by use of immobilized glucoamylase resulted in the production of a more than 90 DE product.

In this paper, we present a GA(Genetic Algorithm) approach to select weighting matrices of an optimal LQ(Linear Quadratic) controller for SVC(Static VAR Compensator). A SVC, one of the FACTS(Flexible AC Transmission System), constructed by a FC(Fixed Capacitor) and a TCR(Thyristor Controlled Reactor), was designed and implemented to improve the damping of a synchronous generator, as well as to control the system voltage Also, a design of LQ controller depends on choosing weighting matrices. The selection of weighting matrices which is not a trivial solution is usually carried out by trial and error. We proposed an efficient method using GA of finding weighting matrices for optimal control law. Thus, we proved the usefulness of proposed method to improve the stability of single machine-infinite bus with SVC system by eigenvalues analysis and simulation.
The very high temperature gas reactor (VHTR) is one of the next generation nuclear reactors for its safety, long-term stability, and proliferation-resistance. The high operating temperature of over 800$^{\circ}C$ enables various applications with high energy efficiency. Heat is transferred from the primary helium loop to the secondary helium loop through the intermediate heat exchanger (IHX). The IHX material requires creep resistance, oxidation resistance, and corrosion resistance in a helium environment at high operating temperatures. A Ni-based superalloy such as Alloy 617 is considered as a primary candidate material for the intermediate heat exchanger. In this study, the microstructures of Alloy 617 crept in pure helium and air environments at 950$^{\circ}C$ were observed. The rupture time in helium was shorter than that in air under small applied stresses. As the exposure time increased, the thickness of outer oxide layer of the specimens clearly increased but delaminated after a long creep time. The depth of the carbide-depleted zone was rather high in the specimens under high applied stress. The reason was elucidated by the comparison between the ruptured region and grip region of the samples. It is considered that decarburization caused by minor gas impurities in a helium environment caused the reduction in creep rupture time.
Thermoelectric (TE) materials working in radioisotope thermoelectric generators are irradiated by neutrons throughout its service; thus, investigating the neutron irradiation stability of TE devices is necessary. Herein, the influence of neutron irradiation with fluences of 4.56 × 1010 and 1 × 1013 n/cm2 by pulsed neutron reactor on the electrical and thermal transport properties of n-type Bi2Te2.7Se0.3 and p-type Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 thermoelectric alloys prepared by cold-pressing and molding is investigated. After neutron irradiation, the properties of thermoelectric materials fluctuate, which is related to the material type and irradiation fluence. Different from p-type thermoelectric materials, neutron irradiation has a positive effect on n-type Bi2Te2.7Se0.3 materials. This result might be due to the increase of carrier mobility and the optimization of electrical conductivity. Afterward, the effects of p-type and n-type TE devices with different treatments on the output performance of TE devices are further discussed. The positive and negative effects caused by irradiation can cancel each other to a certain extent. For TE devices paired with p-type Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 and n-type Bi2Te2.7Se0.3 thermoelectric legs, the generated power and conversion efficiency are stable after neutron irradiation.

As the development of alternative energy is required due to the depletion of fossil fuels, interest in the use of hydrogen energy is increasing. Hydrogen is a promising clean energy source with high energy density and can lead to the application of environmentally friendly technologies. However, due to difficulties in production, storage, and transportation that prevent the application of hydrogen-based eco-friendly technology, research on reforming reactions using dimethyl ether (DME) is being conducted. Unlike other hydrocarbons, DME is attracting attention as a hydrogen carrier because it has excellent storage stability and transportability, and there is no C-C bond in the molecule. The reaction between DME and steam is one of the reforming processes with the highest hydrogen yield in theory at a temperature lower than that of other hydrocarbons. In this study, a hydrogen reforming device using DME was developed and a catalyst prepared by supporting Cu in alumina was put into a reactor to find optimal hydrogen production conditions for supplying hydrogen to fuel cells while changing reaction temperature (300-500℃), pressure (5-10 bar), and steam/carbon ratio (3:1 to 5:1).
