This paper defines a generator reactive reserve considering power system network. Conventional generator reserve is calculated by the difference between the maximum reactive power output of generator and the current reactive power of generator. However, all generators could not affect on the whole power system. Thus, the effective generators should be selected by sensitivity analysis. The sensitivity depends on network configuration is the relation between generator reactive power outputs and reactive power loads. Using the sensitivity, the effective generator reactive reserve can be calculated.
It is difficult to converge power flow for the power system planning data. The main cause of power flow diverse is reactive power imbalance. A active power could be adjust by ELD or merit order but a reactive power couldn't dispatch before power flow analysis. The lack of reactive power of power system is cause a inadequate voltage drop This paper suggest new reactive power dispatch algorithm using switched shunt admittance. This algorithm uses reactive power sensitivity called switch shunt jacobian. When proposed algorithm applies to real system data that couldn't be conversed in PSS/E the power flow analysis is converged.

Various problems such as increase of power loss and voltage instability may often occur in the case of low load power factor. The demand of reactive power increases continuously with the growth of active power and restructuring of electric power companies makes the comprehensive management of reactive power a troublesome problem, so that the systematic control of load power factor is required. In this paper, the load power factor sensitivity of generation cost is derived and it is used for effectively determining the locations of reactive power compensation devices and for enhancing the load power factor appropriately. In addition, voltage variation penalty cost is introduced and integrated costs including voltage variation penalty cost are used for determining the value of load power factor from the point of view of economic investment and voltage regulation. It is shown through application to a large-scale power system that the load power factor can be enhanced effectively using the load power factor sensitivity and the integrated cost.
In this paper, a methodology to use load duration curve and the reactive power factor sensitivity of generation cost is proposed for analyzing the effects of load power factor effectively. A great deal of cases of power systems are classified into several patterns according to the characteristics using load duration curve, and the overall effects of load power factor are assessed by integrating the analysis results of load power factor in all the patterns. The reactive power sensitivity of generation cost and the integrated costs such as generation cost, investment cost, voltage variation penalty cost and CO2 emission cost are used for determining an appropriate load power factor. A systematic procedure for effective analysis of load power factor is presented. It is shown through the application to the practical power system of KEPCO(Korea Electric Power Corporation)that the effects of load power factor can be analyzed effectively using load duration curve and reactive power factor sensitivity.
In recent years, much attention has been paid to the voltage collapse phenomena. There has been reported many cases about the voltage collapse in many countries. These voltage collapse phenomena are known as the event that can occur due to reactive power deficits. This paper proposes an efficient method that can pursue the reactive power loss changes and gives the simple voltage collapse proximity indicator(VCPI) based on the reactive power loss sensitivities using optimal techniques. By comparing reactive power loss sensitivity with active power loss sensitivity, it is also proved that VCPI based on reactive power loss sensitivities is more effective. The developed VCPI is derived from the Jacobian matrix of Load Flow and the computational burden is very low and on-line implementation is possible. The proposed method is applied to a IEEE-14 bus test system and reliable and promising results are obtained.
In recent academic and industrial circles of the Republic of Korea, the securement of available reactive power reserve against the line faults is at issue. Thus, simulations have been performed for the securing of effective reactive power reserve (effective Q) to prepare for the line faults and improve reactive power monitoring and control methods. That is, a research has been conducted for the fast-decoupled Newton-Raphson method. In this study, a method that distinguishes source and sink regions to carry out faster provision of information in the event of line fault has been proposed. This method can perform quantification with the formula that calculates voltage variations in the line flow. The line flow and voltage changes can be easily induced by the power flow calculation performed every second in the operation system. It is expected that the proposed method will be able to contribute to securement of power system stability by securing efficient reactive power. Also, the proposed method will be able to contribute to prepare against contingencies effectively. It is not easy to prepare quickly for the situation where voltage drops rapidly due to the exhaustion of reactive power source by observing voltage information only. This paper's simulation was performed on the large scale Korean power system in steady state.
The low load power factor causes various problems such as the increase of the power loss and the voltage instability. The demand of reactive power increases continuously with the growth of active power and the restructuring of electric power companies makes the integrated management of ractive power troublesome, from which the systematic control of load power factor is required. In this paper, the load power factor sensitivity of the generation cost is derived and its effects in supplying the reactive power and enhancing the load power factor are analyzed in a small-scale power system. The load power factor sensitivity of the generation cost is applied for determining the locations and capacities of reactive power compensation devices. It is shown that the generation cost can be reduced and the system power factor can be enhanced effectively using the load power factor sensitivity.

This paper describes a reactive optimal power flow incorporating margin enhancement constraints. Margin sensitivity at a steady-state voltage instability point is calculated using invariant space parametric sensitivity, and it can provide valuable information for selection of effective control parameters. However, the weakest buses in neighboring regions have high margin sensitivities within a certain range. Hence, the control determination using only the sensitivity information might cause violation of operational limits of the base operating point, at which the control is applied to enhance voltage stability margin in the direction of parameter increase. This paper applies an interior point method (IPM) to solve the optimal power flow formulation with the margin enhancement constraints, and shunt capacitances are mainly considered as control variables. In addition, nonlinearity of margin enhancement with respect to control of shunt capacitance is considered for speed-up control determination in the numerical example using the IEEE 118-bus test system.

This paper proposes a methodology using a tool based on the branch-parameter continuation power flow (BCPF) in order to restore the power flow solvability in unsolvable contingencies. A specified contingency from a set of transmission line contingencies is modeled, considering the transient analysis and practice in the Korean power system. This tool traces a solution path that satisfies the power flow equations with respect to the variation of the branch parameter. At a critical point, in which the branch parameter can move on to a maximum value, a sensitivity analysis with a normal vector is performed to identify the most effective compensation. With the sensitivity information, the location of the reactive power compensation is determined and the effectiveness of the sensitivity information is verified to restore the solvability. In the simulation, the proposed framework is then applied to the Korean power system.
