2,4,6-Trinitrotoluene(TNT) was reduced into intermediate products by mixed culture incubated in anaerobic condition. To test the effects of extracellular material to electron transfer between sulfide and TNT, filtered medium of mixed culture was loaded in the test tubes with TNT and sulfide. The transformation rate was measured under four different conditions. The rate under microbial activity was the fastest among under different conditions. With sulfide or filtrate alone and TNT, the reactions were measured as the slowest reactions or no reactions occured, respectively. The reaction rate coefficient were calculated by linear regression and the first order kinetic was fitted best. Also, the plot of rate coefficients (K$_{f}$) showed linear relationships when at time zero TNT and sulfide concentration were 20 mg/1 and 6.0 mM, respectively. By extrapolation, reaction rate coefficient of 100% filtrate could be calculated as 0.0054/minute. However, reaction rate was affected by different concentration of sulfide, so it is a dependent of sulfide concentration. The results of this test showed TNT reduction rate can be limited more by microbial reaction than by mediation of filtrate or sulfide and filtrate alone.
The effects of rare earth element (R.E.) and cooling rate on the eutectic reaction of flake graphite cast irons were studied by combined analysis of macro/micro-structure and cooling curve data. The correlation between eutectic reaction parameter and macro/micro-structure was systematically investigated. Two sets of chemical compositions with the different addition of R.E. were designed to cast. Three types of molds for cylindrical specimens with the different diameters were prepared to analyze cooling rate effect. The difference between undercooling temperature and cementite eutectic temperature (${\Delta}T_1=T_{U}-T_{E,C}$), which is increased by adding R.E. and decreased by increasing cooling rate, is considered to be a suitable eutectic reaction parameter for predicting graphite morphology. According to the criterion, A-type graphite is mainly suggested to form for ${\Delta}T_1$ over $20^{\circ}C$. Eutectic reaction time (${\Delta}t$), which is decreased by adding R.E. or increasing cooling rate, is a suitable eutectic reaction parameter for predicting eutectic cell size. Eutectic cell size is found to decrease in a proportion to the decrease of ${\Delta}t$.
The effects of Mn content and cooling rate on the eutectic reaction of flake graphite cast irons were studied by a combined analysis of macro/micro-structure and cooling curve data. The correlation between the eutectic reaction parameter and macro/microstructure was systematically investigated. Two sets of chemical compositions with different Mn contents were designed to cast. Three types of molds for cylindrical specimens with different diameters were prepared to analyze the cooling rate effect. The difference between undercooling temperature and cementite eutectic temperature (${\Delta}T_1=T_U-T_{E,C}$), which is decreased by increasing the Mn content or increasing the cooling rate, is considered to be a suitable eutectic reaction parameter for predicting graphite morphology. According to the criterion, A-type graphite is mainly suggested to form for ${\Delta}T_1$ over $20^{\circ}C$, and D-type graphite is mainly suggested to form for ${\Delta}T_1$ below $0^{\circ}C$. Eutectic reaction time (${\Delta}T$), which is increased by increasing the Mn content and decreased by increasing the cooling rate, is regarded as a suitable eutectic reaction parameter for predicting eutectic cell size. Eutectic cell size is found to decrease in proportion to the decrease of ${\Delta}T$.
Esterification reaction between succinic acid and 1,4-butanediol was kinetically investigated in the presence of nontoxic organometallic compound catalyst(ESCAT-100E) at $150-190^{\circ}C$. The reaction rates measured by the amount of distilled water from the reaction vessel. The Esterification reaction was carried out under the first order conditions respect to the concentration of reactants, respectively. The overall reaction order was 2nd. The linear relationship was shown between apparent reaction rate constant and reciprocal absolute temperature. By the Arrhenius plot the activation energy have been calculated as 376.13 kJ/mol under nontoxic organometallic compound catalyst and also apparent reaction rate constant, k' was found to obey first kinetics with respect to the concentration of catalyst.
Esterification reaction between succinic acid and 1,4-butanediol was kinetically investigated in the presence of monobutyl tinoxide catalysts at $150{\sim}190^{\circ}C$. The reaction rates measured by the amount of distilled water from the reaction vessel. The esterification reaction was carried out under the first order conditions with respect to the concentration of reactants, respectively. The overall reaction order was 2nd. The linear relationship was shown between apparent reaction rate constant and reciprocal absolute temperature. By the Arrhenius plot the activation energy have been calculated as 87.567 kJ/mol under monobutyl tinoxide catalyst and also apparent reaction rate constant, k' was found to obey first kinetics with respect to the concentration of catalyst.
In this study, reaction model and reactions rate accelerated by o-iodosobenzoate ion(IB$^{\ominus}$) on hydrolysis reaction of p-nitrophenyl valate(NPV) using ethyl tri-octyl ammonium mesylate(ETAMs) for quaternary ammonium salts, the phase transfer catalysis(PTC) reagent, were investigated. The effect of IB$^{\ominus}$ on hydrolysis reaction rate constant of NPV was weak without ETAMs solutions. Otherwise, in ETAMs solutions, the hydrolysis reactions exhibit higher first order kinetics with respect to the nucleophile, IB$^{\ominus}$, and ETAMs, suggesting that reactions are occurring in small aggregates of the three species including the substrate(NPV), whereas the reaction of NPV with OH$^{\ominus}$ is not catalyzed by ETAMs. Different concentrations of NPV were tested to measure the change of rate constants to investigate the effect of NPV as substrate and the results showed that the effect was weak. This means the reaction would be the first order kinetics with respect to the nucleophile. This behavior for the drastic rate-enhancement of the hydrolysis is referred as 'Aggregation complex model' for reaction of hydrophobic organic ester with o-iodosobenzoate ion(IB$^{\ominus}$) in hydrophobic quarternary ammonium salt(ETAMs) solutions.
The high temperature corrosion of Fe-C alloys were studied at I atm SO gas in the temperature range 500~80$0^{\circ}C$ by means of a thermogravimetric analysis. The Na2SO4 induced high tempwrature corrosion rate was also measured at atm O2 gas under above the temperature renge. The reaction products were identified with the aid of X-ray diffraction technique, and micostruction of the alloy/scale interface was observed with a optical microscope and SEM. The experimental results were disussed by the themodeynamic calcutions. Under above the experimental condition. the reaction rates decrbon with increasing carbon content. The transfer of Fe ion was limited by a residue of carbon precipitated at alloy scale interface due to the oxidation of Fe-C alloys at alloy surface. The effect of cold working on reaction rate was different between the Fe containing low carbon and Fe-C Alloy containing carbon above 0,73 wt%. In a cold worked iron containing low carbon content, the crystallization of metal surface leads to the poor adherence between the alloy and the cavity formed between the alloy and scale. The outward diffusion of ion through the scale is estimated to be hindered by the cavity formed between the scale, consequently decreasing reaction rate. In the case Fe-C containing carbon above 0.73 Wt% alloy, the reaction rate was little affected by cold working, because the effect of content on reaction rats is greater than the effect of cold working.
To investigate the effect of heparin on sperm capacitation. The acrosome reaction of bovine sperm which were incubated in mTALP containing heparin and the in vitro development of bovine follicular oocytes which were cocultured with heparin-treated sperm were evaluated, and the resutls were as follows : 1. When bovine fresh sperm were incubated in mTALP solution containing 0, 5, 10 and 25$\mu\textrm{g}$/ml heparin for 15 to 840 minutes, there was no significant difference between motilies of heparin-treated sperm and untreated sperm, but the acrosome-reaction rate of heparin-treated sperm was significantly higher than that of untreated sperm. Moreover the acrosome reaction rate of was sperm treated with heparin was significantly increased after incubating for 15 minutes. 2. When fresh sperm were incubated in mTALP solution containing 10$\mu\textrm{g}$/ml heparn for 840 minutes, the motility of sper incubated for 840 minutes was lower than those of sperm incubated for 0, 15, 60 and 120 minutes, but the acrosome-reaction rate of sperm incubated for 840 minutes was higher than those of the others. 3. When frozen-sperm were incubated in mTALP solution containing 10$\mu\textrm{g}$/ml heparin for 120 minutes, the acrosome reaction rate of sperm was significantly increased after incubating for 15 minutes. 4. When fresh sperm treated with heparin were cocultured with bovine follicular oocytes, 16.7 to 23.7% of the oocytes were developed to 2-8 cell stage.
This paper investigates the reaction rate of $CO_2$ storing carbonation hybrid reaction by comparing the behavior of carbonation between $Ca(OH)_2$ and fly ash with that of CFBC (Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion) containing plenty of Free-CaO. Because fly ash with CFBC contains a lot of unreacted CaO, it cannot be used as a raw material for concrete admixtures and its usages are limited. To reuse such material, we stabilized unreacted CaO by carbonation and investigated the carbonation rate. We used a pH meter and a thermometer to check the rate of the carbonization. Also, we set the contents of fly ash with CFBC, $Ca(OH)_2$, flow and fluid of $CO_2$, respectively, to 100 g, 50 g, 100 ~ 1000 cc/min and 400 g based on the content of Free-CaO. We used carbonated water instead of water, and added an alkaline activator to promote the carbonation rate. As a result, the addition of the alkaline activator and carbonated water promoted the rate of carbonation via a hybrid reaction.
The hydriding kinetic mechanism and the change of the hydriding reaction rate of $MmNi_{4.5}Al_{0.5}$ during the thermally induced hydrogen absorption-desorption cycling are investigated. Comparison of the reaction rate data which are obtained by the pressure sweep method with the theoretical rate equations suggests that the hydriding rate controlling step has changed from the dissociative chemisorption of hydrogen molecules at the surface to the hydrogen diffusion through the hydride phase with the increase of the hydriding fraction. These hydriding kinetic mechanism is not changed during the cycling. However, the intrinsic hydriding reaction rate of $MmNi_{4.5}Al_{0.5}$ after 5500 cycles increases significantly comparing with the activated one. It is suggested that the change of the hydriding kinetic behavior due to intrinsic degradation of $MmNi_{4.5}Al_{0.5}$ can be interpreted as follows ; the formation of nickel cluster at the surface of the sample and the host metal atom exchange in bulk by thermal cycling.
