Wave Climate at Hong-do and Mara-do Sea Areas (홍도와 마라도 해역에서의 파후에 대하여)

  • In this paper the statistical characteristics of the waves at Hong-do and Mara-do are examined. The wane scatter diagrams of H/sub s/ and T/sub z/ and H/sub 1/3/and T/sub 1/3/ at two locations are given and various statistical characteristics of the ocean waves are examined. If the sea is not narrowband, the modified Rayleigh distribution introduced by Longuet-Higgins can be used for the individual wave height distribution. However the modified Rayleigh distribution has not been widely used due to the inconvenience of determining the empirical constant. In this paper a simple method to determine the empirical constant for the modified Rayleigh distribution is proposed. Extreme waves based on the measured wave data are estimated. There is no significant difference depending on the distribution functions. However the estimations of the extreme waves from H/sub s/ and H/sub 1/3/ show considerable difference.

Assessment of Wind Energy Potentiality in Wolryong using Short-term Observation (단기관측에 의한 월령 연안지역 풍력에너지 잠재량 평가)

  • Wind energy resources are recently considered as an important power generation alternative in the future. The fact that the investment of wind turbine installation continues to increase has motivated a need to develop more widely applicable methodologies for evaluating the actual benefits of adding wind turbines to conventional generating systems. This study is aiming to estimate the future wind resources with various estimation methods. The wind power is calculated at the hub height 75m of 800KW and 1,500KW wind turbines in Wolryong site, Jeju island, South Korea. Three equations - logarithmic, profile, and power law methods are applied for the accurate prediction of wind profile. In addition, yearly wind power can be calculated by using Weibull & Rayleigh distribution. It is found that predicted wind speed is highly affected by friction velocity, atmospheric stability, and averaged roughness length. It is concluded that Rayleigh distribution provides greater power generation than the Weibull distribution, especially for low wind-speed condition.

  • Random process plays a major role in wireless communication system to analytically derive the probability distribution function of the various statistical distribution. In this paper, we derive the decreasing function of the exponential distribution under the given condition which is expressed as wireless channel condition. The probability distribution function of Gaussian, Laplacian, Rayleigh and Nakagami distribution are also derived. Extensive simulation results of these statistical distributions are provided to prove that random process has a significant role in the wireless communications. In addition, the Rayleigh and Rician channels show specific examples of visible distance communication and invisible distance channel environment. This paper is motivated by that we assume a block fading channel model, where the channel is constant during a transmission block and changes independently between consecutive transmission block, can achieve a better performance in high SNR regime with i.i.d channel. This algorithm for realizing these transforms can be applied to the Kronecker MIMO channel.

A Model for Software Development Manpower Allocation (소프트웨어 개발인력 배분 모델)

  • If the effort(manpower) and schedule are estimated, there is very difficult to allocate the manpower according to the schedule time units efficiently. Generally, the Putnam's Rayleigh Model has been applied popularly. This distribution model is expressing topology that manpower is consumed concentrically in first-half point. But actual manpower of projects are consumed concentrically at middle or second half point. Therefore, this model cannot be applied in software project planning area. This paper suggests a model to distribute manpower efficiently. Fist of all, we investigate a typical type presenting in software development field and manpower profile type of actuality development projects. Next, we suggested a method to present the model by a drawing a contour about manpower profile for the efficient manpower distribution. The proposed model shows better performance than Rayleigh and Gomma model. By applying proposed model, we will properly distribute manpower to schedule in software development planning phase, and finally we may manage project successfully.

Occurrence Probability of Freak Waves at Nearshore of Donghae Harbor in the East Sea (동해항 전면 해역에서의 Freak Waves 발생확률)

  • Over the last 20 years, freak waves have attracted many researchers because of their unexpected behaviors and damages on offshore structures and vessels in the ocean and coastal waters. Despite many researches on the causes, mechanisms and occurrence of freak waves, we have not reached consensus on the results of the researches. This paper presents the occurrence probability of freak waves based on the analysis of wave records measured at coastal waters of Donghae harbor in the East Sea. Three freak waves were found which satisfied conditions of m and $H_S{\geq}2.5m$ and $H_m/H_S{\geq}2$. The occurrence probabilities of freak waves were estimated from extreme distributions by Mori, Rayleigh and Ahn, and found to be on the orders of O($10^{-1}$), O($10^{-2}$), and O($10^{-3}$), respectively. The occurrence probabilities of freak waves measured from waves records were estimated between O($10^{-2}$) and O($10^{-3}$), which were located between predictions by Rayleigh and Ahn's extreme probability distributions. However, we need more analysis of wave records obtained from diverse field conditions in order to verify the accuracy of the estimation of occurrence probability of freak waves.

  • Low Rayleigh number thermal convection in a fluid layer confined between two-infinite horizontal walls kept at spatially sinusoidal temperature distributions, T_L=T_m+\Delta T\sin \kappax,\;T_U=T_m+\Delta T\sin(\kappax-\beta)$, is theoretically investigated by a regular perturbation expansion method. For small wave numbers, an upright cell is formed between the two walls at $\beta$=0. The cell is tilted, as the phase difference increases, and a flow with tow counter-rotating eddies occurs at $\beta=\pi$. when the wave number is large, isolated eddies are formed near the lower and upper walls, for all the phase differences. There exists a wave number at which maximum heat transfer rate at the walls occurs, at each of the phase differences. And the wave number increases with increase of the phase difference. for a fixed wave number, the heat transfer rate decrease with increase of the phase difference.

Buckling Strength of Orthotropic Rectangular Plate with a Longitudinal Stiffener under In-plane Linearly Distributed Loads (면내 선형분포하중을 받는 수평보강재가 설치된 직교이방성판의 좌굴강도)

  • In this study buckling behavior of orthotropic plate with a longitudinal stiffener under in-plane linearly distributed loads is investigated. All edges of plate are assumed to be simply supported and the stiffener is considered as a beam element. For the equation of buckling analysis Rayleigh-Ritz method is employed. The upper limit of the critical stress at various location of stiffener is determined by using Lagrangian multiplier method. Buckling analysis is performed for the various position of stiffener and for the various width ratios between plate and stiffener. The parametric study shows that, when four edges of plate are simply supported, the most effective position for a longitudinal stiffener is at the location of which the upper limit of the stress is the maximum.

Comparative Analysis on the Attributes of NHPP Software Development Cost Model Applying Gamma Family Distribution (감마족 분포을 적용한 NHPP 소프트웨어 개발비용 모형의 속성에 관한 비교 분석)

  • In this study, the attributes of the NHPP software development cost model applying the Gamma family distribution (Erlang, Log-Logistic, Rayleigh) were newly analyzed, and after comparing with the Goel-Okumoto basic model to verify the properties of the model, the optimal model was also presented based on this. To analyze software reliability, failure time data that occurred randomly during system operation was used, and the calculation of the parameters was solved using the maximum likelihood estimation. As a result of comprehensive evaluation through various attribute analysis (mean value function, development cost, optimal release time), it was confirmed that the Rayleigh model had the best performance. Through this study, the attributes of the software development cost model applying the Gamma family distribution, which has no previous research case, were newly identified. Also, basic design data could also be presented so that developers can efficiently utilize this research data at an early stage.

Comparative Study on the Performance of Finite Failure NHPP Software Development Cost Model Based on Inverse-type Life Distribution (Inverse-type 수명분포에 근거한 유한고장 NHPP 소프트웨어 개발비용 모형의 성능에 관한 비교 연구)

  • In this study, the Inverse-type (: Inverse-Exponential, Inverse-Rayleigh) life distribution, which is known to be suitable for reliability research, was applied to a software development cost model based on finite failure NHPP(: Nonhomogeneous Poisson Process), and then the attributes that determine the model's performance were analyzed. Additionally, to evaluate the efficiency of the model, it was compared with the Goel-Okumoto basic model. The performance of the model was analyzed using failure time data, and MLE (: Maximum Likelihood Estimation) was applied to calculate the parameters. In conclusion, first, as a result of analyzing m(t), which determines the development cost, the Inverse-Exponential model was efficient due to its small error in the true value. Second, as a result of analyzing the release time along with the development cost, the Inverse-Rayleigh model was confirmed to be the best. Third, as a result of comprehensive evaluation of the attributes (m(t), cost, and release time) of the proposed model, the Inverse-Rayleigh model had the best performance. Therefore, if software developers can effectively utilize this research data in the early process, they will be able to proactively explore and analyze attributes that affect cost.
