  • In this study, by using the eye model of NAVARRO, KOOIJMAN, MAHKICHOONG, the properties of optical system are reserched in a finite ray tracing method, when ametropia is corrected by glasses or contact lens, this study is useful as a reference. Also, when Auto-refractometer for refraction test and Keratomeler are designed, these eye models can be used.

  • We numerically determined the direction of ray and the average ray-crossing position from the shape of the wavefront on the exit pupil of optical system which had aberrations and apodized aperture. This position was calculated easier and closer to the position of the maximum intensity than that calculated by Safa's method when the aberration is greater than about 2λ.

  • Purpose: In this study a program was developed to determine corneal aberrations using corneal shape of topographer and represented a wavefront and corneal aberrations using zernike polynomial. Methods: When the pupil size was 6 mm, we calculated new corneal shape data with zernike polynomials using corneal shape data of ORBSCAN topographer. We programmed the wavefront construction using ray tracing for corneal shape, then represented corneal aberrations having zernike polynomial with 6th order and 28 terms. Conclusions: We developed programs to determine a wavefront and corneal aberrations using corneal shape of ORBSCAN topographer. Theses results will be applied to a development of new topographer and prescription of contact lens and OK lens.

  • In this paper, the rate of transmittance regarding the home -and foreign-made lens that have been treated with multi coating and no coating has been studied in the range of the visible ray. The lens that were treated with No Coating turned out to be about 93% of the rate of transmittance, but those treated with Coating turned out to be over 98%. Especially, the rate of transmittance of product made by a company in a foreign country turned out to be homogeneous in the whole range.

  • We have synthesized a new material of polyoxetane based liquid crystalline polymer/liquid crystal (LCP/LC) for flexible memory or dynamic mode device and characterized the electro-optics behavior of this system. The microscopic dynamic behavior of main chain, side chain, and the low molecular weight LC were characterized by X-ray scattering and time resolved FTIR..

  • In this report, we present in-orbit radiometric performance prediction for the Amon-Ra (Albedo Monitor and Radiometer) energy channel instrument. The Integrated Ray Tracing (IRT) computational technique uses the ray sets arriving at the Amon-Ra instrument aperture orbiting around the L1 halo orbit. Using this, the variation of flux arriving at the energy channel detector was obtained when the Amon-Ra instrument including the energy channel design observes the Sun and Earth alternately. The flux detectability was verified at the energy channel detector (LME-500-A, InfraTecTM). The detector time response and RMS signal voltage were then derived from the simulated flux variation results. The computation results demonstrate that the designed energy channel optical system satisfies the in-orbit detectability requirement. The technical details of energy channel instrument design, IRT model construction, radiative transfer simulation and output signal computation results are presented together with future development plan.

  • The variation of MgO surfaces, in which fluorine was contained (F-MgO), by high energy electron-beam (EB) was studied using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Fluorine on the MgO surface was eliminated by EB treatment with the consequence that the electronic structures of Mg, O and C were varied. Moreover, as a result of oxidation of carbon species on the surface by high dose EB treatment (90 kGy), the concentration of carbonate and carboxyl species on the surface was increased. In this experiment, it was confirmed that the structure of oxidized metal surface can be adjusted by varying conditions of EB treatment (energy and dose). This result implies that EB can be applied for developing new catalysts.

  • We built 7 potential extra-terrestrial planets including the full 3D Earth model with various surface types and 6 planet models, each with uniform surface characteristics. The surface types include ice, tundra, forest, grass, ground and ocean. We then imported these 7 planets into integrated ray tracing(IRT) model to compute their disk averaged spectra and to understand the spectral behavior depending on the geometrical view, illumination phase and seasonal change. The IRT computation show that the 6 planets with uniform surfaces exhibit clear spectral differences from that of the Earth. We then built a phase and seasonal DAS database for the 6 uniform surface planets and used them for parametric spectral decomposition technique to derive the Earth DAS. This computation resulted in the first potential solution to the surface type ratio of the Earth compared to the measured earth surface type ratio. The computational details and the implications are discussed.

  • The variations of output energy due to tilt output coupler for different types of pulsed Nd:YAG laser resonators were compared by measuring FWHM (full width at half maximum) which means the width of angle displacement where maximum output energy decreases to half value. We proposed a new configuration of pulsed solid-state laser resonator which had high FWHM for tilting of output coupler and which was little sensitive for tilting of rear optics. We proved that our laser resonator had high alignment stability using ABeD ray matrix method because the ray matrix of such a resonator corresponded to unit matrix. atrix.
