  • In a SI engine, three-way catalyst converter has the best efficiency when A/F ratio is near the stoichiometry. The feedback control using oxygen sensors in the commercial engine has limits caused by the system delays. So it is necessary to control fuel quantity in accordance with intake air amount in order to reduce exhaust emission and improve the specific fuel consumption. Precise A/F ratio control requires measurement of air amount with respect to the cylinder and injection fuel according to the air amount In this paper, we applied nonlinear fuel injection model and developed the algorithm of A/F ratio control. This algorithm includes the methods of measurement of transient air mass flowing into each cylinder, of calculation of injection pulse width for measured air mass, and the method of feedback and engine control by using lambda sensor. Also we developed control program for IBM-PC by using C++ Builder, and tested it in the commercial engine.

  • Since the telemanipulator consisting of high reduction ratio gear joints has a slow dynamics comparing with the master manipulator, its control signal is likely to be saturated resulting in poor tracking performance and deteriorated stability. This paper proposes a bilateral control scheme of a telemanipulator having high reduction ratio, which can compensate the control input saturation. The experimental results show that the proposed control scheme has excellent performances.

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Over the past 10 yrs, the prevalence of diabetes in Korea has continued to incline, and the importance of lifestyle modification to manage diabetes has been highlighted. For patients with diabetes, carbohydrate intake reduction is effective in improving glycemic control; thus, we aimed to analyze the effect of carbohydrate intake ratio and suggest an appropriate carbohydrate intake ratio. SUBJECTS/METHODS: Using the 8th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2019-2021), we analyzed the data including participants aged 30 yrs or older with diabetes, and they were stratified into good and poor glycemic control groups. To analyze the correlation between the dietary behavior characteristics of participants with diabetes and the carbohydrate intake ratio, sociodemographic characteristics, dietary behavior, and health behavior were adjusted, and multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted to present the adjusted odds ratio and 95% confidence interval (CI). RESULTS: In the unadjusted crude model, when carbohydrate intake ratio in total energy intake increased by 1%, the likelihood of poor glycemic control increased by 1.007-fold (95% CI, 0.998-1.016; P = 0.121). In model 1, which uses age and sex as adjustment variables, an increase of up to 1.011-fold was possible (95% CI, 1.001-1.021; P = 0.008). In model 2, which added variables such as diabetes duration, frequency of fruit consumption, frequency of lunch and, frequency of dinner, the risk of poor glycemic control increased by 1.010-fold as the carbohydrate intake ratio increased (95% CI, 0.998-1.022; P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: This study confirmed that as the ratio of carbohydrate intake to total energy intake increases the likelihood of poor glycemic control also increases in patients with diabetes. Therefore, to improve glycemic control in patients with diabetes, controlling the carbohydrate intake may be helpful.

  • Since the dynamics of the slave manipulator with high reduction ratio joints is likely to be much slower than that of the master manipulator, the control input the slave manipulator is so frequently saturated. This paper proposes a bilateral teleoperation control scheme for 2-DOF manipulators with high reduction ratio joints, which can effectively compensate the control input saturation. In the proposed scheme, the controllers of the slave manipulator are designed with an anti-windup feature and forces caused by the saturation are reflected to the operator holding the operating handle of the master manipulator. When the control input of the slave manipulator is saturated, the master manipulator moves slowly file to tile reflected forces. In this way, the position tracking performance of the slave manipulator with high reduction ratio joints can be enhanced regardless of saturation. The proposed scheme is shown to give excellent position tracking performance through a series of experiments.

  • Generally, larger sample size leads to a greater statistical power to detect a significant difference. We may increase the sample size for both case and control in order to obtain greater power. However, it is often the case that increasing sample size for case is not feasible for a variety of reasons. In order to look at change in power as the ratio of control to case varies (1:1 to 4:1), we conduct association tests with simulated data generated by PLINK. The simulated data consist of 50 disease SNPs and 300 non-disease SNPs and we compute powers for disease SNPs. Genetic Power Calculator was used for computing powers with varying the ratio of control to case (1:1, 2:1, 3:1, 4:1). In this study, we show that gains in statistical power resulting from increasing the ratio of control to case are substantial for the simulated data. Similar results might be expected for real data.

  • This paper considers the seismic performance of lever-type tuned mass damper(TMD). The lever-type TMD is designed utilizing the seismic-performance of TMD and the control force required for constraining story drift. The TMD is basically designed by tuning the frequency of primary structure. Thus, the TMD plays an important role to reduce the dynamic responses. The lever-type TMD has a merit to control more displacement responses than the existing TMD due to the control forces. It is shown that the optimum design of lever-type TMD is affected by the ratio of the TMD mass with respect to the mass of the primary structure, the damping ration of the primary structure, and the length ratio of the lever. A numerical example exhibits the effectiveness of the dynamic control by the lever-type TMD and its validity is illustrated in a three-story building structure subjected to earthquake.

  • Known as an important criterion that evaluates performance of future high-speed backbone networks, burst data loss ratio is well-studied in Optical Burst Switching networks. Current literatures mostly focus on reduce burst loss ratio without considering the system stability and link utilization after reducing. In this paper, we propose a novel framework which comes from feedback theoretic to dynamically control burst loss ratio in OBS. The proposed scheme tries to track the pre-set values of burst loss ratio and increases the stability and link utilization degree. The simulation results show that measured burst loss ratio always tracks setup reference with small errors, wavelength channel utilization is increased up to 2% and the system stability is also improved.

  • In this paper, engine-CVT consolidated control performance were investigated experimentally. Engine-CVT consolidated control was composed of engine throttle control based on power difference and CVT ratio control based on CVT ratio map. Experimental results showed that engine optimal operation was obtained while satisfying the driver's desire, i. e., following the given drive mode by engine-CVT consolidated control. Also, it was found that engine performance is subjected to inertia of the powertrain where the magnitude of acceleration changes abruptyly. Comparing with the results of CVT only control, the results of engine-CVT consolidated control showed better performance. Therefore, in order to meet the driver's desire as well as keeping the engine optimal operation, the engine-CVT consolidated control could be suggested as an integral solution.

  • With the aim of achieving half the regulated value of EURO-3 Emission Regulations, an ultra low emission motorcycle has been developed based on a motorcycle with an 1800 $cm^3$, horizontal opposed 6-cylinder engine. For the fuel supply system, an electronically controlled fuel injection system was applied. For the emission purification system, three-way catalysts, a feedback control system with a LAF(Linear Air-Fuel ratio) sensor, and a secondary air induction system were applied. To reduce CO and HC emissions during cold starting, an early catalyst activation method combining RACV(Rotary Air Control Valve) and retarded ignition timing was applied. After the catalyst activation, air-fuel ratio was controlled to maximize the purification ratio of the catalyst according to vehicle speed. For the air-fuel ratio control system, the LAF sensor was used. Furthermore, fine adjustment by the LAF feedback control reduced torque fluctuation due to the air-fuel ratio change. As a result, smooth ride feeling was maintained. Owing to these technologies, half the regulated value of EURO-3 has been achieved without any negative impact to the large-scaled motorcycles' drivability. This paper presents the developed ultra low emission technologies including the control method using an LAF sensor.
