The effects of BPC (blade pitch control) on FOWT (floating offshore wind turbine) motions and generated power are investigated by using a fully-coupled turbine-floater-mooring simulation program. In this regard, two example FOWTs, OC4-5MW semi-submersible FOWT and KRISO four-3MW-units FOWT, are selected since the numerical simulations of those two FOWTs have been verified against experiments in authors' previous studies. Various simulations are performed changing BPC natural frequency (BPCNF), BPC damping ratio (BPCDR), and wind speeds. Through the numerical simulations, it was demonstrated that negative damping can happen for platform pitch motions and its influences are affected by BPCNF, BPCDR, and wind speeds. If BPCNF is significantly larger than platform-pitch natural frequency, the pitch resonance can be very serious due to the BPC-induced negative-damping effects, which should be avoided in the FOWT design. If wind speed is significantly higher than the rated wind velocity, the negative damping effects start to become reduced. Other important findings are also given through systematic sensitivity investigations.

Wide operating range and speed control is needed for wind power generating and a Doubly Fed Induction Generator(DFIG) has good adaptivity for that purpose. This paper deals with the speed, power, and power factor control using the Grid connected DFIG in the super-synchronous speed regions, by controlling frequency and voltage fed to the rotor. Power flow of the DFIG and steady-state algebraic equations of the equivalent circuit are analyzed. The wind turbine speed and constant stator power were controlled by the rotor exciting frequency. For a normal operating region, in which the generator ratings were not exceeded, rotor exciting frequency. For a normal operating region, in which the generator ratings were not exceeded, the rotor current was either less than or equal to the rated value. Accordingly, the optimal power factor can be selected relative to the permissible rated current at the rotor coil which controls the magnitude of the injected rotor voltage to the rotor according to a given rotor frequency. Consequently, it is possible to determine the optimal drive of a DFIG for wind power generation application.
With growing of wind turbine industry, offshore wind turbine system is getting more attention in recent years. Foundation of the offshore wind turbine plays a key role in stability of whole system. In this work, 5MW NREL reference wind turbine with rated speed of 11.4m/s is used for load calculation. Wind loads and wave loads are evaluated using GH-Bladed (Garard Hassan) and FAST (NREL). Additionally, FE simulation is carried out to investigate the wave effect on the support structure. Meanwhile, this work is trying to systematize and optimize load cases simulation for foundation of wind turbine system.
Mechanical load measurements on blade and tower of Vestas 100 kW wind turbine has been reformed in Wollyong test site, Jeju island. The experimental procedure for the measurement of wind turbine loads, such as edgewise(lead-lag) bending moment, flapwise bending moment, and tower base bending moment, has been established. The test facilities consisting of strain-gauges, telemetry and T-Mon system are installed in the wind turbine. Strain gauges are on-site calibrated against load cell prior to monitoring the wind turbine loads. Using the test setup, the loads on the components are being measured and analysed for various external conditions of the wind turbine. A set of results for near rated wind speed has been presented in this paper.
In an efforts to encourage renewable energy deployment, the government has initiated so called 1 million green homes program but the accumulated installation capacity of small wind turbine has been about 70kW. It can be explained in several ways such that current subsidy program does not meet public expectations, economic feasibility of wind energy is in doubt or acoustic emission is significant etc. The author investigated annual energy production of Skystream 3.7 wind turbine using measured power curve and wind resource data. The measured power curve of the small wind turbine was obtained through power performance tests at Wol-Ryoung test site. AEP(Annual Energy Production) and CF(Capacity Factor) were evaluated at selected locations with the measured power curve.

Doubly-Fed Induction Generator(DFIG) is adequate to maximize the energy capture from wind energy, whereby the turbine speed can be adjusted to a speed, at which a rated tip speed ratio be kept. In this paper, a power analysis for DFIG and its characteristics of power flow in grid-connected operation, are dealt with in speed range of super- and sub-synchronous region. In a test of the machine, whereby a doubly excited circuit configuration in stator as well as rotor with back to back PWM inverter have been equipped, a constant input torque is given and in that condition, power new in stator and rotor circuit have been measured and compared with theoretical value. Furthermore, the power factor in stator and rotor circuit have been examined.

The purposes of this study are to evaluate the power performance through CFD analysis and structural integrity through uni-directional FSI analysis in aerodynamic design and structure design of wind turbine blade. The blade was designed to generate the power of 2MW under the rated wind speed of 11 m/s, consisting of NACA 6 series, DU series and FFA series airfoil. The inside section of the blade was designed into D-spar structure and circular stiffener was placed to reinforce the structural strength in the part of hub. CFD analysis with the application of transitional turbulence model was performed to evaluate the power performance of blade according to the change of TSR and 2.024MW resulted under the condition of rated wind speed. TSR of 9 produced the maximum power coefficient and in this case, Cp was 0.494. This study applied uni-directional FSI analysis for more precise evaluation of structural integrity of blade, and the results of fiber failure, inter fiber failure and eigenvalue buckling analysis were evaluated, respectively. For the evaluation, Puck's failure criteria was applied and the result showed that fiber failure and inter fiber failure did not occur under every possible condition of the analysis. As a result, power performance and structural integrity of 2 MW blade designed in this study turned out to satisfy the initial design goals.
This paper describes a real-time hardware simulator for a grid-tied Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) wind power system, which consists of an anemometer, a data logger, a motor-generator set with vector drive, and a back-to-back power converter with a digital signal processor (DSP) controller. The anemometer measures real wind speed, and the data is sent to the data logger to calculate the turbine torque. The calculated torque is sent to the vector drive for the induction motor after it is scaled down to the rated simulator power. The motor generates the mechanical power for the PMSG, and the generated electrical power is connected to the grid through a back-to-back converter. The generator-side converter in a back-to-back converter operates in current control mode to track the maximum power point at the given wind speed. The grid-side converter operates to control the direct current link voltage and to correct the power factor. The developed simulator can be used to analyze various mechanical and electrical characteristics of a grid-tied PMSG wind power system. It can also be utilized to educate students or engineers on the operation of grid-tied PMSG wind power system.
Effects of Weibull shape parameter, k, on capacity factors of wind turbines were investigated. Wind distributions with mean wind speeds of 5 m/s, 6 m/s, 7 m/s and 8 m/s were simulated and used to estimate the annual energy productions and capacity factors of a 2MW wind turbine for various Weibull shape parameters. It was found from the study that the capacity factors of wind turbines are much affected by Weibull shape parameters. When the annual mean wind speed at the hub height of a wind turbine was about 7 m/s, and the air density was assumed to be 1.225 $kg/m^3$, the maximum capacity factor of a 2 MW wind turbine having a rated wind speed of 13 m/s was found to occur with the shape parameter of 2. It was also found that as the mean wind speed increased, the Weibull k parameter which yielded the maximum capacity factor increased. The simulated results were also validated by predictions of capacity factors of wind turbines using wind data measured in complex terrain.
This paper deals with the aerodynamic analysis and structural test under estimated loading condition for small composite blade, which is utilized in dual rotor wind turbine system. Firstly, the front and rear blades of dual rotor wind turbine system were modeled using reverse engineering method. And using finite volume method, the aerodynamic forces were analyzed at the rated and cutout wind speed to identify the pressure distribution on blades. And then, the full scale structural tests were conducted according to load and strength based methodology in IEC 61400-2 to identify the structural integrity of composite blade.
