  • In this study, we have developed the ergonomic pattern from the 3D human body reflecting cycling posture and extensibility of the stretch fabrics. Adjusting pressure level in the construction of athlete's tight-fitting stretch garments by reducing the original pattern is a challenging subject, which influence on the performance of the wearer directly. Therefore, in this study, relationships between the reduction rates of the 2D pattern obtained from the 3D human scan and resultant clothing pressure were explored to improve the fit and pressure exerted by reduced clothing pattern. Subjective wear sensations of the experimental garments were rated using a seven-point Likert scale on two consecutive days. While wearing the garments, subjects were asked to take five different postures including waist flexion, sitting and others. A Likert-type scale was used for the evaluation, with 7 points indicating the best fit in tight-fitting pants. Comparing 2/3T-pattern with T-pattern, the latter was superior to 2/3T-pattern in terms of adhere well to the waist and hip area in the 0.032 significance level. T-pattern was superior to 2/3T-pattern in terms of fitting and wear comfort. As results, the pattern obtained from the flexed body reflecting cycling posture already included the contraction and extension of the skin while cycling posture, so that the extra ease for movement and good fit was not need to be considered. The optimized reduction rates were determined with the proposed reduction rate, the resultant pressure range was within the range of $0.5{\sim}3.0gf/cm^2$ at eight locations on the body except front waist band and thigh band.

  • Controlling insects and diseases is an important factor for increasing yields of agricultural products. Power sprayer is widely used in cooperative controlling of insects and diseases for the production of rice and fruits. However, farmers need a long hose to use the power sprayer and that presently most of the farmers have hose made abroad. This study was designed to test the change of outside diameter and unit Iength, and to measure the pressure Ioss for three different kinds of hoses made domestically and one made in Japan. The resulte are as follows; 1. The three kinds of Korean-made hoses showed an increase in the length and a decrease in the outside diameter as the spraying pressure increase. The rate of change of the length ranged from 3.5% to 1.6% and the rate of change of the outside diameter from 3.5% to 1.4% respectively. 2. As the length of hose increases, the pressure loss was $3kg/cm^2$ at the end of a 100m of the hose made in Japan, while it was $7-10kg/cm^2$ for Korean-made hoses. 3. The Korean-made hoses were not broken under $27-28kg/cm^2$ of spraying pressure. 4. As a conclusion, the Korean-made hoses can safely be used under continuous rated pressure of the power sprayer, but they can not properly be used for the case of cooperative controlling system where a long hose is reguired because of the heaviness of the hoses and the narrowness of the inside diametar. Hence, it is highly recommended to improve the Korean-made hoses to be used for such a situation.

  • In this paper, we studied the application of low pressure ultra-violet (UV) lamps for the development of an energy saving ship's ballast water treat (BWT) device. We proposed the optimal arrangement of UV lamps by analyzing the energy radiated from medium- and low-pressure UV lamps. Based on the experimental results, we manufactured a disinfection chamber which is composed of low-pressure UV lamps. The rated power and the treatment capacity of the chamber are 216 [W] and 10 [$m^3$/h], respectively. This can replace a disinfection chamber treated by two 2 [kW] medium pressure lamps. The disinfection performance, however the power consumption is about one-eighteen compare to the medium pressure UV lamp, is over 94 [%] for bacteria, 93 [%] for zooplankton, and 94 [%] for phytoplankton. Therefore, it would be possible to develop an energy saving BWT device in a low capacity below 100 [$m^3$/h].

  • On the basis of standard Si processing, the miniaturized piezoresistive-type Si pressure sensor with a chip size of $1.7{\times}1.7{mm^2}$ was fabricated and its operating characteristics were investigated. The sensor chip has a full-bridge type of 4 boron-diffused resistors which is formed on an $1.0{\times}1.0{mm^2}$ area, $20{\mu}m$ thick n-type Si diaphragm and finally, encapsulated under room temperature, 1 atm in order to measure a gauge pressure. The operating characteristics of this sensor were determined as a pressure sensitivity of $14.2{\mu}$V/VmmHg, a rated pressure range of 0~760 mmHg, and a maximum nonlinearity of $1.0{\%}$ FS at room temperature.

  • The rotor design is fundamental to the performance and dynamic response of the Counter-rotating marine tidal current turbine. The wind industry has seen significant advancement single rotor blade technology, offering considerable knowledge and making it easy to transfer to tidal stream energy converters. In this paper, 3D flow and performance an alysis on a 100 kW counter-rotating marine current turbine blade was carried out by using the 3-D Navier-Stokes commercial solver(ANSYS CFX-11.0) to provide more efficient design techniques to design engineers. The front and rear rotor diameter is 8m and the rotating speed is 24.72rpm. Hexahedral meshing was generated by ICEM-CFD to achieve better quality of results. The rated power and its approaching stream velocity for design are 100 kW and 2 m/s respectively. The pressure distribution on the blade's suction side tells us that the pressure becomes low at the leading edge of the airfoil as it moves from the hub to the tip.

  • An experimental study on the Hybrid Cooling Tower has been done having a rated capacity of 3RT. Counter flow type fill, cross flow type fill and hybrid-type fill which is combined with two type fills as previously stated having a height of 0.3m have been used in the 0.8m${\times}$0.4m${\times}$1.9m dimensional tower respectively. The heat exchanger is consisting of 2 or 3 rows. The relevant temperatures and the velocities were selected based on the typical Korean weather for the year round operation of the tower. The cooling capacity of the tower is explained with respect to varying air inlet velocities, wet-bulb temperatures, and air to cooling water volume flow rate ratio (L/G ratio). The capacity of the hybrid-type fill was much superior to other fills, but hybrid-type fill shows higher pressure drop.

  • This study focused on the charateristic of magnetic fluids, the viscosity deviation of magnetic fluids due to temperature changes, and fabrication of a 'purely' liquid type microvalve. The viscosity of magnetic fluids decreases sharply during increasing of temperature. The viscosity of magnetic fluids is rated 1,000 cP at the room temperature and 25 cP when the temperature reaches $100^{\circ}C$. Briefly, it is remarkable that the fluid flow can be controlled by the temperature and this characteristic can be adopted to the microfluidics as a microvalve. The fabrication of a liquid type microvalve is more easy than solid state microvalves and which can increase an efficiency of the controlability with respect to the thermo-pneumatic micropump which is studied broadly for many years. When the magnetic fluid used as a sealant for high level sealing, the pressure leakage is less than solid state microvalve. The experimental results show that the pressure drop in microchannel, filled with the magnetic fluid, is significant in the temperature range of $20^{\circ}C{\sim}50^{\circ}C$ and this result explains why the use of magnetic fluids is possible as a microvalve searcher uses this characteristics. Well known thermo-pnumatic.

  • Our final goal was to manufacture low-calorie healthy seafood spreads using high pressure processing. Prior to developing the spread products, we performed a nationwide survey of consumers aged in their teens and twenties (n=585). The questionnaire was designed to gain insights from consumers on spread products, including Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA), recipes, market prospects, etc. Consumers responded that 'price, calorie, fat content, sanitary, nutrition, and food additive' should be improved, in that order. They also thought that fruits and vegetables are highly acceptable in recipes of seafood spreads. In addition, consumers pointed that we should concentrate on 'taste, sanitary, flavor, nutrition, and price' to make spreads more successful. Regarding market prospects, consumers rated spreads with scores over 2.96/5.00, which means the market for seafood spreads is sufficient. The consumers' response provided guidelines for developing and manufacturing low-calorie healthy seafood spreads.
