  • This paper presents a 1.6[kW]class single phase high power factor(HPF) pulse width modulation(PWM) boost rectifier featuring soft commutation of the active switches at zero current. It incorporates the most desirable properties of conventional PWM and soft switching resonant techniques. The input current shaping is achieved with average current mode control and continuous inductor current mode. This new PWM converter provides zero current turn on and turn off of the active switches, and it is suitable for high power applications employing insulated gate bipolar transistors(IGBT'S). The principle of operation, the theoretical analysis, a design example, and experimental results from laboratory prototype rated at 1.6[kW] with 400[Vdc] output voltage are presented. The measured efficiency and the power factor were 96.2[%] and 0.99[%], respectively, with an input current Total Harmonic Distortion(THD) equal to 3.94[%], for an input voltage with THD equal to 3.8[%], at rated load.

  • Climatic characteristics were described using the LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) and the met-mast on Dongbok·Bukchon region. The influences of meteorological conditions on the power performance of wind turbines were presented using the data of Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) and met-mast of the Dongbok·Bukchon Wind Farm (DBWF) located in Jeju Island. The stability was categorized into three parameters (Richardson number, Turbulence intensity, and Wind shear exponent). DBWF was dominant in unstable atmospheric conditions. At wind speeds of 14 m/s or more, the proportion of slightly unstable conditions accounted for more than 50%. A clear difference in the power output of the wind turbine was exhibited in the category of atmospheric stability and turbulence intensity (TI). Particularly, a more sensitive difference in power performance was showed in the rated wind speeds of the wind turbine and wind regime with high TI. When the flow had a high turbulence at low wind speeds and a low turbulence at rated wind speeds, a higher wind energy potential was produced than that in other conditions. Finally, the high-efficiency of the wind farm was confirmed in the slightly unstable atmospheric stability. However, when the unstable state become stronger, the wind farm efficiency was lower than that in the stable state.

  • The neural network pitch controller using changing rate of generator speed has been suggested in this paper to regulate wind turbine power above the rated wind speed. The changing rate of generator speed is used in the suggested pitch controller as well as the difference between the rated and current generator speed. Matlab/simulink has been used for simulations and it has been shown that the suggested pitch controller regulates generator speed as the rated speed of 122.9[rad/s].

  • An LLC series resonant converter has many unique characteristics and improvements over PWM topologies. However, many output capacitors are needed in parallel to satisfy output voltage ripple and the rated ripple current of the capacitors. This paper deals with a novel two phase interleaved LLC resonant converter using a phase of the resonant capacitor. The proposed converter can satisfy output voltage ripple and a rated ripple current of capacitors with few output capacitors, relatively. The operation and features are considered in detail and a prototype with a 12V-100A output is investigated.

  • The spanwise aerodynamic loads of the wind turbine blade are investigated numerically. The blade shape such as twist and chord length along the blade span is obtained from the procedure of aerodynamically optimal design. The rated tip speed ratio and the rated wind velocity are set to 7 and 12m/s respectively. The BEM method is applied to obtain both the aerodynamic performance of the wind turbine (Fig.1) and the spanwise aerodynamic loads along the blade span including Prandtl's tip loss factor. The maximum running power coefficient is occurred around 90% radial position from hub (Fig.2). The distributed aerodynamic loads along the blade span can be used for structure analysis.

  • In this study, we design, model, and analyze a compound generator that combines the axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM,) and radial flux permanent magnet (RFPM), which is expected to increase power generation by allowing the magnets to be placed on the upper, lower, left, and right sides of the same-sized generator. Through the design, modelling, and analysis of AFPM and RFPM compound generators, the generator load evaluation results rated output of 500.25 W and efficiency of 87.60%, respectively, at a rated speed of 600 rpm. By employing this complex generation system, these findings are expected to contribute to the activation of a small power generation system.

  • Fuel cell systems have witnessed remarkable development in recent years as they offer a clean and efficient alternative for power generation. Testing was conducted to determine the safety performance of a residential fuel cell system when subjected to abnormal operation condition, especially for voltage sag and fuel cut. In case of voltage sag to 198V, its arriving time at rated power had shown a slight lag but there wasn't any noticeable change when operating it between rated voltage(220V) and 10% voltage sag(198V). In case of fuel cut, it also showed stable shut-down characteristics. The test results are being used to develop a new safety evaluation for residential fuel cell system.

  • This paper presents the digital control techniques of a bidirectional CRM(critical-conduction mode) buck(boost) converter, a dead-time design method that optimizes ZVS(zero-voltage switching) and valley-switching operation, and a switching-frequency limitation that ensures stable converter operation. To verify the feasibility of the design, a Si-MOSFET-based bidirectional CRM buck(boost) converter is built with 260-430 V input, 160-240 V output, and 1.0 kW rated capacity. The bidirectional CRM converter achieves an efficiency of up to 99.6% at buck mode and 98.7% at boost mode under rated load conditions.

  • AC to DC single phase PWM converter for traction application requires rated high power and voltage. Therefor, series or parallel operation converters are necessary with considering the limitation of the power device specification. This paper compares the characteristic between two parallel operation of conventional PWM converter and Single phase three level converter about comparison of power circuit, cooling system control method and harmonic current by computer simulation.
