In reliability engineering, the bathtub-shaped hazard rates play an important role in survival analysis and many other applications as well. For the bathtub-shaped, initially the hazard rate decreases from a relatively high value due to manufacturing defects or infant mortality to a relatively stable middle useful life value and then slowly increases with the onset of old age or wear out. In this paper, we present a new two-parameter lifetime distribution function, called the Loglog distribution, with Vtub-shaped hazard rate function. We illustrate the usefulness of the new Vtub-shaped hazard rate function by evaluating the reliability of several helicopter parts based on the data obtained in the maintenance malfunction information reporting system database collected from October 1995 to September 1999. We develop the S-Plus add-in software tool, called Reliability and Safety Assessment (RSA), to calculate reliability measures include mean time to failure, mean residual function, and confidence Intervals of the two helicopter critical parts. We use the mean squared error to compare relative goodness of fit test of the distribution models include normal, lognormal, and Weibull within the two data sets. This research indicates that the result of the new Vtub-shaped hazard rate function is worth the extra function-complexity for a better relative fit. More application in broader validation of this conclusion is needed using other data sets for reliability modeling in a general industrial setting.
This paper studies a real-time VBR traffic characterization. There are two big approaches to determine traffic. One is a statistic approach and the other is a deterministic approach. This paper proposes a new constraint function, what we called “Sub-Sum Constraint Function”(SSCF). This function is mainly based on a deterministic approach and uses a statistic approach. It predicts and calculates the next rate with a present information about the stream. SSCF captures the intuitive bounded by a rate lower than its peak rate and closer to its long-term average rate. This model makes a order of the constraint function much less than any other works (O(n)). It can also be mapped on a token bucket algorithm which consists of r (token rate) and b (token depth). We use a concept, EB(effective bandwidth) for a utility of our function and comparing with other techniques such as CBR, average VBR. We simulated 21 multimedia sources for verifying the utility of our function.
Objective : To explore and analyze the influencing factors of facial nerve function retainment after microsurgery resection of acoustic neurinoma. Methods : Retrospective analysis of our hospital 105 acoustic neuroma cases from October, 2006 to January 2012, in the group all patients were treated with suboccipital sigmoid sinus approach to acoustic neuroma microsurgery resection. We adopted researching individual patient data, outpatient review and telephone followed up and the House-Brackmann grading system to evaluate and analyze the facial nerve function. Results : Among 105 patients in this study group, complete surgical resection rate was 80.9% (85/105), subtotal resection rate was 14.3% (15/105), and partial resection rate 4.8% (5/105). The rate of facial nerve retainment on neuroanatomy was 95.3% (100/105) and the mortality rate was 2.1% (2/105). Facial nerve function when the patient is discharged from the hospital, also known as immediate facial nerve function which was graded in House-Brackmann : excellent facial nerve function (House-Brackmann I-II level) cases accounted for 75.2% (79/105), facial nerve function III-IV level cases accounted for 22.9% (24/105), and V-VI cases accounted for 1.9% (2/105). Patients were followed up for more than one year, with excellent facial nerve function retention rate (H-B I-II level) was 74.4% (58/78). Conclusion : Acoustic neuroma patients after surgery, the long-term (${\geq}1year$) facial nerve function excellent retaining rate was closely related with surgical proficiency, post-operative immediate facial nerve function, diameter of tumor and whether to use electrophysiological monitoring techniques; while there was no significant correlation with the patient's age, surgical approach, whether to stripping the internal auditory canal, whether there was cystic degeneration, tumor recurrence, whether to merge with obstructive hydrocephalus and the length of the duration of symptoms.
There is a new trend of incorporating software coverage metrics into software reliability modelling. This paper proposes a coverage-based software reliability growth model. Firstly, the failure rate function in coverage is analytically derived. Then it is shown that the number of detected faults follows a Nonhomogeneous Poisson distribution of which intensity function is the failure rate function in coverage. Practical applicability of the proposed models is examined by illustrative numerical examples.

The failure rate functions between successive failures are of concatenated form. We allow the parameters of failure rate function change after a certain failure and its fixing. We confine out attention to a model wherein the interfailure times are described by its failure rate function. We suggest an adaptive failure rate function with a change-point under the assumption that interfailure times are record value statistics from a Weibull distribution. The proposed model will be applied through a practical example of software failure data.
As the software complexity increases, the development success rate decreases and failure rate increases exponentially. The failure rate related to the software size can be described by a growth function. Based on this phenomenon, this paper estimates the development success and completion rate using the Gompertz growth function. At first, we transformed a software size of numerically suggested $10^n$ into a logarithm and kept the data interval constantly. We tried to derive a functional relationship between the development success rate and the completion rate according to the change of logarithmic software size. However, we could not find a function which can represent this relationship. Therefore, we introduced the failure rate and the cancel rate which are inverse to the development success rate and completion rate, respectively. Then, we indicated the relation between development failure rate and cancel rate based on the change of software size, as a type of growth function. Finally, as we made the Gompertz growth function with the function which describes the cancel rate and the failure rate properly. We could express the actual data suitably. When you apply the growth function model that I suggested, you will be able to get the success rate and completion rate of particular site of software very accurately.

This paper presents sliding mode control(SMC) method using target variation rate of Lypunov Function. SMC keeps the response of structure in sliding surface where structure is stable. It can design both linear controller and bang-bang controller. Linear control of previous research, however, can not make most of the performance of controller, because it is designed to satisfy the condition that the variation rate of Lyapunov function is minus. Also, incase of bang-bang controller, unnecessary large control force is generated. Presented method can utilize the capacity of controller efficiently by prescribing the target variation rate of Lyapunov function. Numerical simulation results indicate that the presented control methods can reduce the peak response larger than linear control, and it has control performance equivalent to bang-bang control.
The unbalance between system ergodic sum rate and high fairness is one of the key issues affecting the performance of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system. To solve the problem, this paper proposes a power allocation algorithm to realize the ergodic sum rate maximization of NOMA system. The scheme is mainly achieved by the construction algorithm of fair model based on α fair utility function and the optimal solution algorithm based on the interior point method of penalty function. Aiming at the construction of fair model, the fair target is added to the traditional power allocation model to set the reasonable target function. Simultaneously, the problem of ergodic sum rate and fairness in power allocation is weighed by adjusting the value of α. Aiming at the optimal solution algorithm, the interior point method of penalty function is used to transform the fair objective function with unequal constraints into the unconstrained problem in the feasible domain. Then the optimal solution of the original constrained optimization problem is gradually approximated within the feasible domain. The simulation results show that, compared with NOMA and time division multiple address (TDMA) schemes, the proposed method has larger ergodic sum rate and lower Fairness Index (FI) values.
We introduce a method of estimating an unknown failure rate function based on sample data. We estimate failure rate function by a function s from a space of cubic splines constrained to be linear (or constant) in tails using maximum likelihood estimation. The number of knots are determined by Bayesian Information Criterion(BIC). Examples using simulated data are used to illustrate the performance of this method.
This study was designed to investigate fast ab/adduction rate of articulation valves in normal adults. The measurement of fast ab/aduction rate has traditionally been used for assessment, diagnosis and therapy in patients who suffered from dysarthria, functional articulation disorders or apraxia of speech. Fast ab/adduction rate shows the documented structural and physiological changes in the central nervous system and the peripheral components of oral and speech production mechanism. Fast ab/adduction rates were obtained from 20 normal subjects by producing the repetition of vocal function (/ihi/), tongue function (/t${\wedge}$/), velopharyngeal function (/m/), and labial function (/p${\wedge}$/). The Aerophone II was used for data recording. The results of finding as follows: average fast ab/adduction rates were vocal function(6.21cps), tongue function(7.42cps), velopharyngeal function(5.23cps), labial function (6.93cps). The results of this study are guidelines of normal diadochokinetic rates. In addition, they can indicate the severity of diseases and evaluation of treatment.
