The demand for fuel and energy resources continues to grow due to increased consumption and emerging economies in all parts of the world. With this increase in demand, crude oil prices in the international market has jumped dramatically. Global warming, which is a consequence of increasing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, has become scientific, social, and political concerns. To cope with global warming and energy crisis, cost-competitive biofuels are urgently needed. In addition, development of an infrastructure, which supplies energy stably and diversifies energy resources, as well as new cost-saving technologies should be developed to reduce the costs of producing biofuels. Due to high oleic acid content, rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) is currently the potential feedstock for biodiesel production in temperate zone region and the production and use of rapeseed oil is already commercialized in Europe. In Korea double-cropping (rice and rapeseed) became more prevalent because it reduces competitions from land constraints. Production of rapeseed as a biodiesel feedstock may reduce the influence of rising oil prices and nation's dependence on imported petroleum and increase job opportunities and farm incomes.
Recently, the development of renewable energy sources in Mongolia has been needed due to climate change and air pollution in Ulaanbaatar as rapid economic growth. Biodiesel can be considered as an alternative fuel for petroleum based diesel in order to decrease air pollution in Ulaanbaatar because of its no emission of particle materials from internal combustion engine in automobile. Rapeseed oil having low cloud point and pour point was suggested as a promising raw material for biodiesel production in Mongolia. Considering high population density and severe air pollution by particle materials and SOx in Ulaanbaatar, prior supplying site of biodiesel in Mongolia was the capital region including Ulaanbaatar. In the production of biodiesel in Mongolia, adsorption process was a effective alternative to washing process for the removal of residual alkali catalyst and reactants due to long winter time in Mongolia. For the stable supply of biodiesel, subsidy and no tax policy is needed in the early stage of biodiesel supply in Mongolia.
In South Korea, direct seeding of rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) is difficult during spring cultivation in early March because of the low yield production associated with late flowering and poor seed quality. To compare the period of direct sowing, the present study investigated the growth characteristics of rapeseed according to planting dates. Specifically, 35 day-old seedlings were transplanted or directly sown on four different dates (late February, early March, late March, and early April) in 2020 and 2021. As the planting date was delayed, the days to flowering of rapeseed decreased. Similarly, the plant height, seed set percentage, and seed yield of rapeseed were reduced upon delay in planting. The seed yield of rapeseed through direct seeding in late February was the highest, 2.76 ton·ha-1. On all seeding dates, except for late February, the transplanted rapeseed produced a higher yields than the directly seeded rapeseed. The crude oil and oleic acid content, which is related to the quality of rapeseed, decreased with the delay in planting dates, and this decrease was greater, with the direct seeding of rapeseed depending on the sowing time. In the correlation analysis, the planting date was significantly and negatively correlated with the yield, crude oil content, and oleic acid content of the transplanted rapeseed, while the sowing date was negatively correlated with the plant height, silique size, yield, and seed quality of the directly seeded rapeseed. Finally, the effect of planting date on rapeseed growth was stronger in direct seeding than in transplanting. Therefore, during spring cultivation after late February to early March, transplanting, rather than direct seeding, in more advantageous in terms of seed quality and yield.
As there have been lately many worldwide resource challenges such as potential exhaustion of fossil fuels, sudden rise of oil price and ever-rising grain pricing due to global food crisis, there have been more interests focused on recycling vegetable oils and fats into clean natural fuel and producing new resources based on waste cooking oil as a part of reusing waste resources. An Experiment was performed by using ratio of 50:50, 75:25 (w/w) mixture of based rapeseed oil, camellia oil, and olive oil. 50:50, 25:75 (w/w) mixture of based palm oil. The result was that the oleic acid ($C_{18:1}$) got the lowest percentage of 42.8%, when we combined the mixture of rapeseed oil and soybean oil. While the highest percentage of 72.1% was when the mixture of camellia oil and rapeseed oil were combined at 50:50 ratio. In 75:25 (w/w) case, mixture of rapeseed oil and soybean oil got the lowest. The highest ratio was the mixture of camellia oil and olive oil. Based on the component of palm oil, the total saturated fatty acid was decreased. It is expected that stabilizing oxidation through controlling of fatty acid after mixture and that liquidity at a low temperature. The acid value indicated that stabilizing oxidation got a range of highest to lowest. Camellia oil ranked as the highest, followed by olive oil, and the oil seeds as the lowest in rank. Controlling iodine value through mixture and improvement of stabilizing oxidation will provide a good quality. The quality of color has no significant change about mixture in ratio and maintenance. The reduction of the cost of refining process is expected by controling of mixture ratio at biodiesel production in the future.
Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) oil with high oleic acid content is of great interest for both food and non-food uses. The 'Tamla' variety, characterized by oleic acid content of approximately 69%, was treated with 1% ethyl methane sulfonate (EMS) to induce mutations in the fatty acid biosynthesis pathway. $M_1$ plants were selfed and subsequent generations ($M_2$, $M_3$, and $M_4$ mutants) were analyzed to identify mutants having increased levels of oleic acid. $M_2$ mutants showed oleic acid content ranging from 13.5% to 76.9% with some mutants (TR-458 and TR-544) having up to 74.7% and 76.9% oleic acid, which was an increase of nearly 5% and 7%, respectively, compared to untreated cv 'Tamla'. We selected two $M_3$ mutants with >75% oleic acid content. One mutant (TR-458-2) had increased oleic acid (75.9%) and decreased linoleic acid (12.5%) and linolenic acid (4.4%) contents. The other (TR-544-1) showed increased oleic acid content (75.7%) and decreased linoleic acid (13.5%) and linolenic acid (3.3%) contents. The accumulation or reduction of oleic acid content in the selected $M_4$ mutants was also accompanied by a simultaneous decrease or increase in linoleic and linolenic acid contents. The high-oleic lines could be utilized further in breeding programs for improvement of rapeseed oil quality.

Supplementation of iodine at the level of 3.5mg/kg reduced weight gain of the rats fed rapeseed oil meal (ROM) diets. Treatment of ROM with ammonia at the level of 2 or 4% tended to increase metabolizable energy value and availability of dry matter, crude protein and crude ash of ROM in the chicken. Potential goitrin level of ROM was reduced by ammoniation at 6% level, while the level of potential isothiocyanates was increased by ammoniation. Treatment of ROM with ammonia at the level of 3% and above reduced weight gain of the chickens fed treated ROMs. Weight of thyroid glands of the birds increased as the level of ammoniation of ROM increased. Supplementation of Avoparcin to the diets containing ROM improved weight gain and dressing percentage of the broiler chickens.

Hydro-thermal liquefaction technology for rapeseed straws was investigated the biomass conversion rate with different catalysts and reaction temperatures. NaOH and KOH were used for catalysts, and the reaction temperature were ranged from 180 to $320^{\circ}C$ at every $20^{\circ}C$ of intervals for 10 minutes. The reaction was carried out in a 5,000 mL liquefaction system with dispenser and external electrical furnace. Raw materials (160g), 2,000 mL of distilled water and 10% (wt/wt) of catalyst to plant residue were fed into the reactor. It was observed that the maximum crude oil yield was about 36% at temperature range, $260{\sim}280^{\circ}C$ with KOH and at $300^{\circ}C$ with NaOH, respectively. It was observed that the more calorific values of crude oil, the higher reaction temperature with KOH, but it had the reverse pattern in NaOH.
Fatty acid contents of 59 food items which are major fat sources in Korean diet were analyzed. The contents of EPA and DHA in fish were 0.02-2.66g and 0.02-3.01g per 100g edible portion, respectively. Items with high amount of EPA and DHA were canned Sardine, Mackerel, Mackrel pike, Atka-fish, Hair tail, Conger eel and Herring. But white fish such as Croaker, Gindaro, Flounder and frozen Alaskan pollack contained less than 0.1g of EPA and DHA per 100g edible portion. Other sources of n-3 fatty acid were perilla oil, rapeseed oil, soybean oil and walnuts all of which contained relatively high amounts of linolenic acid.
This experiment was conducted to investigate the oil content, change of fatty acid composition affected by ferlilizer levels in upland and paddy field cultivation of rapeseed, The oil content with the fatty acid such as palmitic, linoleic and linolenic was increased in the winter crop on drained paddy field compared with those of upland field in which oleic and stearic fatty acid was increased. Unsaturated, good quality fatty acid content such as oleic and linoleic acid in the cultivation of upland field was higher by 2-5% than those of paddy field. Oleic and linoleic fatty acid contents showed increased with increment of nitrogen fertilizer up to 15kg/10a, and showed same trend until 80kg/ha fertilization level of phosphate and potassium in upland field but there was no effect in paddy field cultivation.
In autumn, to determine the optimal planting date and plant density of rapeseed in southern areas of Korea, Yudal variety for autumn sowing, the highest yielding variety was grown under three different planting dates and five different plant densities. Yield components such as plant height, ear length, number of seedling stand per $m^2$, number of branches and pod length were highest at the plots with Sep. 30 of planting date and 30/20 cm drilling of plant density. Yield of seed, oil and 1,000 grains weight were highest at the Sep.30 of planting date and 30/20 cm drilling of plant density. Judging from the results reported above, at optimum planting date and plant density of rapeseed seemed to be Sep.30 of planting date and 30/20cm plant density in autumn sowing.
