  • The turbulence structure of e. tip vortex generated by e. fixed wing was investigated with the use of two-dimensional laser Doppler velocimetry. The velocity field, composed of circumferential end axial components, was measured on the vertical section to the vortex trail, located at 2C downstream from the wing tip in the incoming flow condition of $Re=2.24{\times}10^5$. A quasi 3-dimensional measurement technique by use of 2-dimensional LDV system was suggested for Reynolds stresses and the higher moments. The validity of this technique was confirmed with the uncertainty analysis. The budget of the turbulence kinetic energy was analyzed by those results in the radial direction of the vortex core. It is resulted that the production is to be very likely balanced with the dissipation in most range of the vortex core.

  • To achieve functions of doppler measurement, MTI(Moving Target Indicator), high-resolution, and others in radar system, all circuits of transmitter and receiver are to be performed in coherent system. In this paper, we use TWTA(Traveling Wave Tube Amplifier), STALO(Stable Local Oscillator) and COHO(Coherent Oscillator) to design of coherent radar transceiver, and calculates noise figure of designed receiver. Using radar equation calculated noise figure, maximum detecting range of each transmitting mode can be calculated.

  • To study kinematics of solar prominences, we have made Ha spectrographic study of an eruptive prominence which appeared on the 27th of August, 1992 with a position angle of 270 deg. The observation was carried out by a Littrow type spectrograph and a G1 CCD camera attached to the 25cm coronagraph at Norikura Coronal Station. In taking the spectral data the slit was placed in parallel to the solar limb at 7 different heights, each being separated by 5 arcsec with a time step of 30 sec. The observed eruptive prominence shows a wide range of line of sight Doppler velocity, spanning from $V_{dopp}=-17.5km/s\;to\;V_{dopp}=58.2km/s$. It is also found that the velocity increases with height at the rate of ${\Delta}V= 0.86 km/s/arcsec$.

  • A pulsed ultrasonic doppler flowmeter for mesurements of velocity profils in man is described. The device projects a beam of ultrasound in burst of 570 ns duration at 3.5 MHz. The back-scattered signals are processed to produce a signal oxrresponding to the mean velocity over a small region of the flowing stream. The observation range of 112mm is divided into 128 depth channels. The size of this sample volume determines the flowmeter sensitivity and accuracy. The device uses a quadrature detector to detect the direction of the moving target(hemoglobin). The main feature of the novel instrumnet is its simple hardware structure due to sequential signal processing.

  • In this paper, we have described a Simulated Radar Target Generation Equipment(SRTGE) for evaluating the performance of a developed radar system. In order to change a simulated target range(or time delay), the variable optical delay line structure is used in SRTGE, In addition, SRTGE is required to generate a target return signal which is composed of variable amplitude and Doppler velocity. The interference such as noise jamming and clutter is also produced from SRTGE for evaluating ECCM(Electronic-Counter-Counter Measure) capability of radar.

  • This paper describes the fundamentals, design, realization and test results of a BPSK(Bi Phase Shift Keying) transceiver for the direction finding proximity fuze sensor for anti-aircrafts or air missiles. The BPSK transceiver for the direction finding fuze sensor has been designed to detect a moving target by Doppler signal processing with the code correlation method and to distinguish direction by comparing received powers of each Doppler signal from adjacent three receiving antennas. The electrical and ESS(Environmental Stress Screening) tests of the BPSK transceiver showed satisfactory results and target detection and direction finding performances proved to be successful through dynamic operation tests by 155 mm gun firing.

  • This paper describes a rectification procedure that relies on a polynomial model derived from the imaging geometry without loss of accuracy. By using polynomial model, one can effectively eliminate the iterative process to find an image pixel corresponding to each output grid point. With the imaging geometry and ephemeris data, a geo-location polynomial can be constructed from grid points that are produced by solving three equations simultaneously. And, in order to correct the local distortions induced by the geometry and terrain height, a distortion model has been incorporated in the procedure, which is a function of incidence angle and height at each pixel position. With this function, it is straightforward to calculate the pixel displacement due to distortions and then pixels are assigned to the output grid by re-sampling the displaced pixels. Most of the necessary information for the construction of polynomial model is available in the leader file and some can be derived from others. For validation, sample images of ERS-l PRI and Radarsat-l SGF have been processed by the proposed method and evaluated against ground truth acquired from 1:25,000 topography maps.

  • This paper proposes a systematic method for estimating detection performances of a frequency-modulated continuous wave radar using electromagnetic simulations. The proposed systematic method includes a radar system simulator that can obtain range-Doppler images using the electromagnetic (EM) simulations in conjunction with a test setup employed for performance evaluation of multiple targets at different velocities in a traffic environment. This method is then applied for optimizing the half-power beamwidths of the antenna array using an evaluation metric defined to improve the detection strengths for the multiple targets. The optimized antenna has vertical and horizontal half-power beam widths of $10^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$, respectively. The results confirm that that the proposed systematic method is suitable to improve the radar detection performance with the enhanced radar-Doppler images.

  • A 3-D surveillance radar is a pulsed-doppler radar to provide various target information, such as range, doppler and angle by performing TWS. This paper introduces HW/SW architecture of radar signal processing board to process in real-time using high-speed multiple DSP(Digital Signal Processor) based on COTS. Moreover, we introduced a implemented algorithm consisted of clutter map creation/renewal, FIR(Finite Impulse Response) filter for rejection of zero velocity components, doppler filter, hybrid CFAR and finally presented computational burden of each algorithm by performing operational test using a beacon.

  • Recently, collision avoidance systems are under development to reduce the traffic accidents and driver comfort for automotive radar. Pulse radar can detect their range and velocities of moving vehicles using range gate and FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) of the doppler frequency. We designed the real time DSP(Digital Signal Processing) based automotive UWB(Ultra Wideband) radar, and implemented DSP to detect the range and velocity within 100ms for real time system of the automotive UWB radar. We also measured the range and velocity of a moving vehicle using designed automotive UWB radar in a real road environment.
