  • Objectives We will provide basic information on bee venom clinical tests and aid the practical use of bee venom in such tests, through examination of RCT research related to bee venom that was reported domestically. Methods We collected 365 articles on Bee venom study result from the OASIS system using the Keyword 'bee venom, apitoxin, apitherapy, bee sting'. The initially selected theses were primarily screened for clinical research. Out of these, case studies and non randomized controlled trial (non-RCT) were ruled out. As a result, 39 studies of randomized controlled trial (RCT) research were chosen as the subjects of study. Results RCT research related to bee venom was first presented in 2003, and 39 studies have been published until 2012. 18 studies were tests to confirm the effectiveness of bee venom, 7 studies were comparisons between SBV and BV, and 13 studies were comparisons with other types of treatment. Research conducted through appropriate randomization methods were 20 studies, and inappropriate randomization methods were used in 19 studies. In therms of Jadad score, 12 studies received 4~5 points, 15 studies received 1-3 points, and 12 studies received zero point. Conclusions In order to assure good quality RCT research, appropriate guidelines should be provided, and proper evaluation standards should be established. In-depth study is needed concerning the difference of responses to treatment according to the types of treatment received. A standardization of treatment should be reached as a result.

  • In general, Automated Storage/Retrieval Systems (AS/RS) have racks of equal size. But higher utilization of warehouse storage can be achieved by using AS/RS with racks of different size. Therefore those systems are adequate and efficient in current environment. In this paper, travel time models are developed for AS/RS with racks of different size under randomized storage in each zone. Each zone has its own rack size. In order to confirm the proposed travel time models, some numerical examples are given.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate reasearch trend of acupuncture treatment on shoulder impingement syndrome. This study investigated the recent studies about acupuncture treatment for shoulder impingement syndrome via searching Korean and foreign electronic databases(Research Information Services, National Digital Science Library, Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integated Services, PubMed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure). The search term was searched by combining 'shoulder impingement sydrome', 'subacrominal pain', 'acupuncture', 'needle therapy', and was limited to the articles published from 2005 to 2017. 14 studies were found to be analyzed according to the type of study, the number of cases, the type of treatment, the instruments for assessment and published year. 14 studies were published since 2005, 6 case reports, 8 randomized controlled trials. In the treatment of shoulder impingement syndrome, treatments such as acupuncture, acupotomy, pharmacopuncture, laser acupuncture, combined treatment of exercise and rehabilitation were performed. Visual analogue scale(VAS), range of motion(ROM) and various questionnaires were used as primary assessments. In each study, acupuncture treatment was reported to have a significant effect in the pain, range of motion and disability of shoulder impingement syndrome. In order to ensure objective evidence on acupuncture treatment, large scale case reports and randomized controlled trials should be continued.

  • Objective: This study aimed to review herbal remedy-based RCTs on cancer patients in order to produce helpful information for clinical study of herbal medicine in the future. Methods: We collected all RCTs using herbal remedies on cancer patients from Pubmed and Cochrane databases until November 1st, 2009. Elementary information such as nation where performed, clinical question, design, randomization, double-blinding and allocation concealment were analyzed. Results: 153 RCTs were finally selected. 119 RCTs were conduced in China while only 2 were done in Korea. The most frequent targeted cancer was lung cancer as 29 RCTs. The main clinical questions included improvement of quality of life, elongation of survival rate and regression of tumor being 83, 62 and 55 respectively. 112 RCTs used herbal remedies with western therapy. Adequate methods for randomization and allocation concealment were found in 37% and 10% of trials respectively. Conclusions: We found that herbal remedies are used on cancer patients in aspects of both caring for the human body and tumor treatment itself. The study might provide us useful data for cancer-related clinical study using herbal remedies in the future.

  • The bioavailability of digoxin generic tablets manufactures in Korea (formulations A & B) wwere compared to a standard (formulation C; Lanoxin brand digoxin, Burroughs Wellcome, USA) in 12 healthy Korean male volunteers (mean age 31.4 years) in a single dose, randomized, complete block crossover study. Using a latin square design, each of the subjects was randomized to the order number and allocated to each of the three treatments of 0.5mg oral digoxin. Digoxin conc4ntrations in serum and urine samples collected for 48 hours after dosing were measured by fluoprescence polarization immunoassy and radioimmunoassy, respectively. Treatments were compared by using nonlinear least squares regession analysis to evaluate the following pharmacokinetic parameters : maximum serum concentation $(C_{max})$; time of maximum serum concentation $(T_{max})$; area under the serum concentration-time curve $AUC_{0-12}$, $C_{max}$\;and\;(AUC_{0-12})$; and cummulative urinary excretion for 0-48 hours $(CLE_{0-48}.\;Mean\;AUC_{0-12},\;C_{max},\;and\;CUE_{0-48}$ values for formulations B and C were significantly different from formulation A (P<0.001), but not significantly diffeerent form each other. Basede on $AUL_{0-12}\;and\;CUE_{0-48}$ respectively, the relative availability of formulation B was 87.5% and 89.6% and the relative availability of formultation A was 43% and 35% when compared to formulation C(the standard).

  • The RPO(randomized policy optimizer) algorithm, which utilizes probabilistic policy for the action selection, is a recently developed tool in the area of reinforcement learning, and has been shown to be very successful in several application problems. In this paper, we propose a modified RPO algorithm, whose critic network is adapted via RLS(Recursive Least Square) algorithm. In order to illustrate the applicability of the modified RPO method, we applied the modified algorithm to Kimura's robot and observed very good performance. We also developed a MATLAB-based animation program, by which the effectiveness of the training algorithms on the acceleration or the robot movement were observed.

  • Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of treadmill gait trainig on dynamic balance and gait functions in stroke patients. Design: Randomized, double-blind, controlled pilot study. Methods: Four subjects following first stroke participated in this study. They were divided randomly into the treadmill gait trainig group (TM group) (n=2) and the control group (n=2). Subjects in both groups received general training five times per week. Subjects in the TM group practiced an additional treadmill gait trainig program that consisted of 60 minutes, three times per week, during a period of four weeks. Timed up and go test (dynamic balance) and the GAITRite test (gait function) were evaluated before and after the intervention. Results: In dynamic balance (timed up and go test), the TM group (-14.235 sec) showed a greater decrease than the control group (-13.585 sec). In gait functions, the TM group showed a greater increase in gait speed (12.8 cm/s vs. 10.15 cm/s), step-length (5.825 cm vs. 3.735 cm), and stride-length (5.005 cm vs. 1.55 cm) than the control group. Conclusions: The treadmill gait trainig improved dynamic balance and gait functions. Further research is needed in order to confirm the generalization of these findings and to identify which stroke patients might benefit from treadmill gait trainig.
