In this paper, a method to obtain the sensitivity of eigenvalues and the random responses of the structure with uncertain parameters is proposed. The concept of the proposed method is that the perturbed equation of each uncertain substructure is obtained using the finite element method, and the perturbed equation of the overall structure is obtained using the mode synthesis method. By this way, the reduced order perturbed equation of the uncertain system can be obtained. And the response of the uncertain system is obtained using probability method. As a numerical example, a simple piping system is considered as an example structure. The damping and spring constants of the support are considered as the uncertain parameters. Then the variations of the eigenvalues, the correlation function and the power spectral density function of the responses are calculated. As a result, the proposed method is considered to be useful technique to analyze the sensitivities of eigenvalues and random response against random excitation in terms of the accuracy and the calculation time.
The seismic safety of reinforced concrete containment building can be evaluated by probabilistic analysis considering randomness of earthquake, which is more rational than deterministic analysis. In the safety assessment of earthquake-resistant structures by the deterministic theory, it is not easy to consider the effects of random variables but the reliability theory and random vibration theory are useful to assess the seismic safety with considering random effects. The reliability assessment of reinforced concrete containment building subjected to earthquake load includes the structural analysis considering random variables such as load, resistance and analysis method, the definition of limit states and the reliability analysis. The reliability analysis procedure requires much time and labor and also needs to get the high confidence in results. In this study, random vibration analysis of containment building is performed with random variables as earthquake load, concrete compressive strength, modal damping ratio. The seismic responses of critical elements of structure are approximated at the most probable failure point by the response surface method. The response surface method helps to figure out the quantitative characteristics of structural response variability. And the limit state is defined as the failure surface of concrete under multi-axial stress, finally the limit state probability of failure can be obtained simply by first-order second moment method. The reliability analysis for the multiaxial strength limit state and the uniaxial strength limit state is performed and the results are compared with each other. This study concludes that the multiaxial failure criterion is a likely limit state to predict concrete failure strength under combined state of stresses and the reliability analysis results are compatible with the fact that the maximum compressive strength of concrete under biaxial compression state increases.
Industrial structure systems may have nonlinearity, and are also sometimes exposed to the danger of random excitation. This paper proposes a method to analyze response and reliability design of a complex nonlinear structure system under random excitation. The nonlinear structure system which is subjected to random process is modeled by finite element method. The nonlinear equations are expanded sequentially using the perturbation theory. Then, the perturbed equations are solved in probabilistic methods. Several statistical properties of random process that are of interest in random vibration applications are reviewed in accordance with the nonlinear stochastic problem.

Most dynamic systems have various random properties in excitation and system parameters. In this paper, a procedure fur response analysis is proposed for the linear dynamic system with random properties in both excitation and system parameters. The system parameter and response with random properties are modeled by perturbation technique, aand then response analysis is formulated by probabilistic and vibration theories. And probabilistic FEM is also used for the calculation of mean response which is difficult by the proposed response model. As an application example, the transient response is calculated for a sdof system with random mass and spring constant subjected to stationary white-noise excitation and the results are compared to those of numerical simulation.

In a meta-analysis combining the results from different clinical trials, it is important to consider the possible heterogeneity in outcomes between trials. Such variations can be regarded as random effects. Thus, random-effect models such as HGLMs (hierarchical generalized linear models) are very useful. In this paper, we propose a HGLM framework for analyzing the binominal response data which may have variations in the odds-ratios between clinical trials. We also present the prediction intervals for random effects which are in practice useful to investigate the heterogeneity of the trial effects. The proposed method is illustrated with a real-data set on 22 trials about respiratory tract infections. We further demonstrate that an appropriate HGLM can be confirmed via model-selection criteria.
This paper presents image analysis method using a Markov random field(MRF) model. Particulary, image esgmentation is to partition the given image into regions. This scheme is first segmented into regions, and the obtained domain knowledge is used to obtain the improved segmented image by a Markov random field model. The method is a maximum a posteriori(MAP) estimation with the MRF model and its associated Gibbs distribution. MAP estimation method is applied to capture the natural image by TMS320C80(MVP) and to realize the segmented image by a MRF model.
A finite element model of a beam element with flexible connections is used to investigate the effect of the randomness in the stiffness values on the modal properties of the structural system. The linear behavior of the connections is described by a set of random fixity factors. The element mass and stiffness matrices are function of these random parameters. The associated eigenvalue problem leads to eigenvalues and eigenvectors which are also random variables. A second order perturbation technique is used for the solution of this random eigenproblem. Closed form expressions for the 1st and 2nd order derivatives of the element matrices with respect to the fixity factors are presented. The mean and the variance of the eigenvalues and vibration modes are obtained in terms of these derivatives. Two numerical examples are presented and the results are validated with those obtained by a Monte-Carlo simulation. It is found that an almost linear statistical relation exists between the eigenproperties and the stiffness of the connections.

Industrial machines are sometimes exposed to the danger of earthquake. In the design of a mechanical system, this factor should be accounted for from the viewpoint of reliability. A method to analyze a complex nonlinear structure system under random excitation is proposed. First, the actual random excitation, such as earthquake, is approximated to the corresponding Gaussian process far the statistical analysis. The modal equations of overall system are expanded sequentially. Then, the perturbed equations are synthesized into the overall system and solved in probabilistic way. Several statistical properties of a random process that are of interest in random vibration applications are reviewed in accordance with nonlinear stochastic problem. The obtained statistical properties of the nonlinear random vibration are evaluated in each substructure. Comparing with the results of the numerical simulation proved the efficiency of the proposed method.
An aerospace vehicle in flight can be exposed to random gust which may cause critical structural failure. In this paper, the failure analysis is conducted for composite wing subjected to random gust. For this, the profile of random gust is idealized as a stationary Gaussian random process and the power spectral density (PSD) of wing bending moment induced by gust is obtained. The PSD function is converted to probabilistic distributions and the failure probability during total flight time is calculated by Monte Carlo simulation.
This study presents a random-aggregate mesoscale model integrating the random distribution of the coarse aggerates and the damage mechanics of the mortar and interfacial transition zone (ITZ). This mesoscale model can generate the random distribution of the coarse aggregates according to the prescribed particle size distribution which enables the automation of the current methodology with different coarse aggregates' distribution. The main innovation of this work is to propose the "correction factor" to eliminate the dimensionally dependent mesh sensitivity of the concrete damaged plasticity (CDP) model. After implementing the correction factor through the user-defined subroutine in the randomly meshed mesoscale model, the predicted fracture resistance is in good agreement with the average experimental results of a series of geometrically similar single-edge-notched beams (SENB) concrete specimens. The simulated cracking pattern is also more realistic than the conventional concrete material models. The proposed random-aggregate mesoscale model hence demonstrates its validity in the application of concrete fracture failure and statistical size effect analysis.
