Ramsay Hunt syndrome is a type of acute herpes zoster, which occurs by reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus at the geniculate ganglion. Clinical presentation of Ramsay Hunt syndrome includes a vesicular rash on the ear (herpes zoster oticus) or in the oral mucosa accompanied by acute peripheral facial nerve paralysis. Other cranial nerves such as V, IX, XI, and XII are often involved. Additional variability of the clinical picture of Ramsay Hunt syndrome is produced by varying patterns of skin involvement explained by individual anastomoses between cranial and cervical nerves. Combination treatment containing anti-viral agents and steroids is recommended for the treatment of Ramsay Hunt syndrome. Additionally, early diagnosis of Ramsay Hunt syndrome is a crucial factor to improve damaged nerves in Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which initiates treatment as soon as possible.

Background: Ramsay Hunt syndrome is a disease that cause faical palsy, ear pain, ear vesicle, tinnitus, hardness of hearing by geniculate ganglion herpes. Ramsay Hunt syndrome could be taken two sides view of herpes zoster and facial palsy. In traditional oriental medicine Ramsay Hunt syndrome could be diagnosed as heat and dryness syndromes. Object: These studies are clinical observations about two Ramsay Hunt syndrome patient cases that is recovered under the treatment by herbal-acupuncture therapy and moxibustion. Methods: For treatment in acute state, acupuncture therapy was used and in convalescent stage, herbal acupuncture therapy and moxibustion therapy were used. For diagnosis system, House-Brackmann system, Yanagihara's system used as diagnosis scales. Result&Conclusion: The results as follows. 1. Generally, to treat Ramsay Hunt syndrome, it is knwon that from invasion of virus to period of first effect a short term bring about good result, but in these two cases, though a long term. considerable effect was braught out. 2. In treating two cases, herbal acupuncture therapys what are called CF, JSD were used. satisfactory results was produced.

Objectives : The aim of this study is comparing the improvement of Bell's palsy and Ramsay hunt syndrome according to treatment duration. Methods : The 11cases diagnosed as Ramsay hunt syndrome and 30cases of Bell's palsy who visited Cheong-ju Oriental Medical hospital from February 2006 to June 2008 were evaluated. We used Yanagihara's unweighted Grading System to confirm the improvement. Results : In the analysis of cause, except the "none", the most common cause was "Overwork" in both two group. After 5-day treatment the score was getting worse but after 10-day treatment score was improved in both group. The improvement of Bell's palsy group was better than that of Ramsay hunt syndrome group after 5-day and 10-day treatment, but there was no significance. Conclusions : In comparison of Yanagihara's unweighted grading score checked before treatment, after 5-day, 10-day and 15-day treatment between Bell's palsy and Ramsay hunt sundrome, there was no statistical significant difference.

Ramsay Hunt syndrome is a disorder characterized by herpetic eruptions on the auricle, facial paralysis, and vestibulocochlear dysfunction, and is attributed to varicella zoster virus infection in the geniculate ganglion. Ramsay Hunt syndrome accounts for about 10% cases of facial palsy. We report a 46-year-old healthy man developed left side skin vesicles on the face with severe pain. We thought of the trigeminal herpes zoster. He was treated with intravenous acyclovir, and stellate ganglion block daily. Four days later, brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed small areas of enhancement in the seventh cranial nerve and eighth cranial nerve, not in the fifth cranial nerve. Eight days later, the left facial palsy was come. We confirmed him as Ramsay Hunt syndrome. We started steroid therapy immediately. He recovered completely a month later. The patient was improved through the early antiviral therapy, steroid medication and stellate ganglion block.

Ramsay-Hunt syndrome is a related but more serious disorder caused by herpes zoster viral infection of the geniculate ganglion. It is characterized by unilateral painful vesicular rash of the uvula, palate, auricle, ear canal, and postauricular area, but it can extend into the facial tissues as well. Paralysis of the facial nerve is often seen, and there can be disequilibrium and hearing problems also. We experienced continuous cervical epidural block (CCEB) with intermittent stellate ganglion block is effective in Ramsay-Hunt syndrome. CCEB should be considered to the treatment of choice in Ramsay-Hunt syndrome.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical effects of Embedding Therapy for Ramsay Hunt syndrome. Methods: 5 patients with Ramsay Hunt syndrome were treated with Embedding therapy. It was performed once a day, once a week. 15~20 Embedding threads were used in each Embedding treatment. The total number of Embedding therapy treatments was 4 or 8. To evaluate the effects of Embedding therapy, we analyzed Yanagihara's score and House-Brackmann scale Results: In case 1, After treatment the Yanagihara's score was changed from 3 to 7 and the House-Brackmann scale was changed from VI to V. In case 2, After treatment the Yanagihara's score was changed from 12 to 33 and the House-Brackmann scale was changed from IV to I. In case 3, After treatment the Yanagihara's score was changed from 3 to 9 and the House-Brackmann scale was changed from VI to V. In case 4, After treatment the Yanagihara's score was changed from 22 to 32 and the House-Brackmann scale was changed from III to I. In case 5, After treatment the Yanagihara's score was changed from 23 to 37 and the House-Brackmann scale was changed from III to I. Conclusion: Embedding Therapy is effective for improve the symptoms of Ramsay Hunt syndrom. Therefore, it will be used to treat Ramsay Hunt syndrome.

Ramsay Hunt syndrome is a viral associated disease with severe otalgia, vertigo, fever, herpetic eruptions on either side of the external auditory meatus and cavum concha, ipsilateral facial nerve palsy and cochleovestibular dysfunction. This syndrome may be the most common cause of unilateral facial paralysis and involvement of both the vestibular and cochlear branch of 8th cranial nerve. And loss of taste sensation may be developed in same involement site. This syndrome affects adults in most cases, and a samll number of children with herpes zoster oticus have been reported. And concomittantly CNS invlovement of this snydrome is very rare. We experienced a 7 years old aged patient of Ramsay Hunt syndrome who had evidence of aseptic meningitis, and this patient showed well reponses with Acyclovir and symptomatic therapy. So, we report this case with brief review of related literatures.

This study was conducted to investigate whether treatment with Korean medicine might help to improve symptoms of patients diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome. A patient diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome was hospitalized for 15 days from October 4, 2018 to October 18, 2018 and treated using Korean medicine (Sinbaro3 pharmacopuncture, acupuncture, electroacupuncture, and herbal medicine). Therapeutic effects were evaluated using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), House-Brackmann grade, Yanagihara's score survey, and Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging (DITI). After treatment, the Numerical Rating Scale score (6 at admission down to 2 points at discharge), House-Brackmann grade (Grade V down to Grade II), Yanagihara's score (6.0 up to 22.0), and Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging showed improvement from admission to discharge. Treatment with traditional Korean medicine, may help improve symptoms of Ramsay Hunt Syndrome such as facial nerve paralysis, neuralgia after paraplegia, hearing difficulties, and dizziness.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report a pediatric patient with Ramsay Hunt syndrome and sinusitis Methods : The patient was treated by acupuncture, electroacupuncture, moxa, herb medicine, vesiculation therapy, massage, cupping boil, and taping. We recorded his degree of progression by House-Brackmann scale and Yanagihara's scale. Results and Conclusions : His facial palsy had been improved from 4(Lt.)score to 20(Lt.)score based on Yanagihara's scale, but House-Brackmann scale had not been changed.
