This study is carried out the analysis of the runoff characteristics for the design of the interior drainage systems by SWMM in urbanization basin. The basin analyzed in this study is Bumuh-chun basin which is located in Susung-gu of Taegu city. Huff method is used for rainfall distribution analysis. The optimal rainfall duration in Bumuh-chun basin is analyzed as about 90 minutes decided from comparison of arrival time and critical duration. Flood flow variation pattern is proposed through the comparison of the results of peak flow and peak time analyzed by SWMM about pre-urbanization and post-urbanization of Bumuh-chun basin. It is known that the variation of arrival time caused by the rapid increase of pavement rate in the upper area shows about 20∼25 minutes faster than pre- urbanization. Therefore, the management of surface water for design of water supply and drainage, and channel alteration has to considered the variation of geological factors according to urbanization.
This study used the WGR model to generate the rainfall input and the modified Clark method to estimate the runoff with the aim of investigating how the errors from the areal average rainfall propagates to runoff estimates. This was done for several cases of raingauge density and also by considering several storm directions. Summarizing the study results are as follows. (1) Rainfall and runoff errors decrease exponentially as the raingauge density increases. However, the error stagnates after a threshold density of raingauges. (2) Rainfall errors more affect to runoff estimates when the density of raingauges is relatively low. Generally, the ratio between estimation errors of rainfall and runoff volumes was found much less than one, which indicates that there is a smoothing effect of the basin. However, the ratio between estimation errors of rainfall to peak flow becomes greater than one to indicate the amplification of rainfall effect to peak flow. (3) For the study basin in this studs no significant effect of storm direction could be found. However, the runoff error becomes higher when the storm and drainage directions are identical. Also, the error was found higher for the peak flow than for the overall runoff hydrograph.

Various methods have been applied for the research to model the relationship between rainfall-runoff, which shows a strong nonlinearity. In particular, most researches to model the relationship between rainfall-runoff using artificial neural networks have used back propagation algorithm (BPA), Levenberg Marquardt (LV) and radial basis function (RBF). and They have been proved to be superior in representing the relationship between input and output showing strong nonlinearity and to be highly adaptable to rapid or significant changes in data. The theory of artificial neural networks is utilized not only for prediction but also for classifying the patterns of data and analyzing the characteristics of the patterns. Thus, the present study applied self?organizing map (SOM) based on Kohonen's network theory in order to classify the patterns of rainfall-runoff process and analyze the patterns. The results from the method proposed in the present study revealed that the method could classify the patterns of rainfall in consideration of irregular changes of temporal and spatial distribution of rainfall. In addition, according to the results from the analysis the patterns between rainfall-runoff, seven patterns of rainfall-runoff relationship with strong nonlinearity were identified by SOM.

Recently, the use of radar rainfall data that can help tracking of the development and movement of rainfall's spatial distribution is drawing much attention in hydrology. The reliability of existing radar rainfall compared to gauge rainfall data on the ground has not yet been confirmed and so we have difficulties to apply the radar rainfall in hydrology. The radar rainfall for the applications in hydrology are adjusted merging method derived from gage. This study uses the Mean-Field Bias (MFB) and Statistical Objective Analysis (SOA) as correction methods to create adjusted grid-based radar rainfall data which can represent the temporal and spatial distribution of rainfall. This study used a storm event occurred in August 2010 for the adjustment of radar rainfall. In addition, the grid-based distributed rainfall-runoff model (Vflo), which enables more detailed examinations of spatial flux changes in the basin rather than the lumped hydrological models, has been applied to Gamcheon river basin which is a tributary of Nakdong River located in south-eastern part of the Korean peninsular and the basin area is $1005km^2$. The simulated runoff was compared with the observed runoff in an attempt to evaluate the usability of radar rainfall data and the reliability of the correction methods. The error range of peak discharge using each correction method was within 20 percent and the efficiency of the model was between 60 and 80 percent. In particular, the SOA method showed better results than MFB method. Therefore, the SOA method could be used for the adjustment of grid-based radar rainfall and the adjusted radar rainfall can be used as an input data of rainfall-runoff models.

For estimating the minimum discharge to maintain a river, low flow analysis is required and long term runoff records are needed for the analysis. However, runoff data should be estimated to run a hydrologic model for ungaged river basin. For the reason, parameter estimation is crucial to simulate rainfall-runoff events for those basins using Tank model. In this study, only runoff data recorded for dry season are used for parameter estimation, which is different to other methods based on runoff data recorded for wet and dry seasons. The Harmony Search algorithm is used to determine the optimum parameters for Tank model. The coefficient of determination ($R^2$) is served as the objective function in the Harmony Search. In cases that recorded data are insufficient, the recording interval is changed and Empirical CDF is adopted to analyze the estimated parameters. The suggested method is applied to Yongdam dam, Soyanggang dam, Chungju dam and Seomjingang dam basins. As results, the higher $R^2s$ are obtained when the shorter recording interval, the better recorded data quality, and the more rainfall events recorded along with certain rainfall amount is. Moreover, when the total rainfall is higher than the certain amount, $R^2$ is high. Considering the facts found from this study for the low flow analysis, it is possible to estimate the parameters for Tank model properly with the desired confidence level.

In terms of flood management, it is necessary to analyze quantitative rainfall and runoff from a spatial and temporal perspective and to analyze runoff for heavy rainfall events that are concentrated within a short period of time. The simulation and analysis results of rainfall-runoff models vary depending on the type and input data. In particular, rainfall data is an important factor, so calculating areal mean rainfall is very important. In this study, the areal mean rainfall of the Samcheok Osipcheon(Riv.) watersheds located in the mountainous terrain was calculated using the Arithmetic Mean Method, Thiessen's Weighting Method, and the Isohyetal Method, and the rainfall-runoff results were compared by applying the distributional model S-RAT and the lumped model HEC-HMS. The results of the temporal transferability study showed that the combination of the distributional model and the Isohyetal Method had the best statistical performance with MAE of 64.62 m3/s, RMSE of 82.47 m3/s, and R2 and NSE of 0.9383 and 0.8547, respectively. It is considered that this study was properly analyzed because the peak flood volume occurrence time of the observed and simulated flows is within 1 hour. Therefore, the results of this study can be used for frequency analysis in the future, which can be used to improve the accuracy of simulating peak flood volume and peak flood occurrence time in mountainous watersheds with steep slopes.

In this study, the conceptual foundation and development process of the Antecedent soil Moisture Condition(AMC) in SCS runoff curve number method are reviewed. Although the runoff volume is very sensitive with AMC condition, the AMC class limits developed in SCS(1972) are used in rainfall-runoff analysis without careful consideration. Tn this study, following the SCS curve number development process, rainfall-runoff characteristics of the Jang-Pyung subbasin subject to the Pyung-Chang River basin are analyzed to evaluate the reasonability of the AMC class limits at present. The New AMC class limits are proposed by the sensitive analysis of the antecedent rainfall - curve number value. As a result, the classification value of AMC-I with II is 22mm of antecedent 5-day rainfall amount, and the classification of AMC-II with III is 117mm in growing season. When the New AMC class limits are applied to Jang-Pyung subbasin, AMC probability distribution shows that the AMC-II has increased remarkably even though the AMC-I has a little higher value. But the AMC-III has the smallest one. According to the conceptual basis of the curve number method, the AMC probability distribution, the New AMC class limits adopted, gives reasonable results.
Many rainfall-runoff models have been used for the flood forecasting. However, the determination of rainfall-runoff model parameters is very difficult. In this study, we investigated the efficiency of flood forecasting models by studying the optimization techniques for parameter calibration of SFM, Tank, and SSARR models. We analyzed the correlations between parameters in optimization techniques, then classified the parameters into parameter groups. For this we applied the sequential calibration method through the sensitivity analysis. As the results of the analysis, the parameter groups clibration method showed better result for peak flow and clibtation time.
This study was intended to investigate the rainfall-runoff relationship with spatially distributed rainfall data, and then, to analyze and quantify the uncertainty induced by spatially averaging rainfall data. For constructing spatially distributed rainfall data, several historical rainfall events were extended spatially by simple kriging method based on the semivariogram as a function of the relative distance. Runoff was computed by two models; one was the modified Clark model with spatially distributed rainfall data and the other was the conventional Clark model with spatially averaged rainfall data. Rainfall errors and discharge errors occurred through this process were defined and analyzed with respect to various rain-gage network densities. The following conclusions were derived as the results of this work; 1) The conventional Clark parameters could be appropriate for translating spatially distributed rainfall data. 2) The parameters estimated by the modified Clark model are more stable than those of the conventional Clark model. 3) Rainfall and discharge errors are shown to be reduced exponentially as the density of rain-gage network is increased. 4) It was found that discharge errors were affected largely by rainfall errors as the rain-gage network density was small.
This study is on the purpose of leading Geomorphoclimatic Instantaneous Unit Hydrograph(GcIUH) by using GIS Techniques, and estimating trigger rainfall for predicting flash flood in Seolmacheon catchment, mountain river watershed. This study leads GcIUH by using GIS techniques, calculates NRCS-CN values for effective rainfall rate, and analyzes 2011 main rainfall events using estimated GcIUH. According to the results, the case of Memorial bridge does not exceed the amount of threshold runoff, however, the case of Sabang bridge shows that simulated peak flow, approximately $149.4m^3/s$, exceeds the threshold runoff. To estimate trigger rainfall, this study determines the depth of 50 year-frequency designed flood amount as a threshold water depth, and estimates trigger rainfall of flash flood in consideration of duration. Hereafter, this study will analyze various flood events, estimate the appropriateness of trigger rainfall as well as threshold runoff through this analysis, and develop prototype of Flash Flood Prediction System which is considered the characteristics of mountain river watershed on the basis of this estimation.
