  • Reliability means that a product maintains its initial quality and performance at a certain period of time (time, distance, cycle etc) under given condition without failure. The given conditions include both environmental condition and operating condition. Environmental condition means a common natural environment such as temperature, humidity, vibration, and working condition means an artificial environment such as voltage, current load, place for installment, and hours of use, which occurs during the life of the product. In the field of railway vehicles, it is mandatory to use a part with the proved reliability as the extension of the life of vehicle become highly necessary. But the reliable assessment method for the reliability of the part is insufficient. If the reliability of the railway vehicle parts could be assessed by using the field data, the reliability of the entire system could also be evaluated reliably. In this study, life span of micro-switch for master controller is analyzed and prediction is performed based on its field data given by an operator considering the special circumstances of railway vehicles such as the operation of a large number of trains on the same line.

A review on modelling and monitoring of railway ballast

  • Nowadays, railway system plays a significant role in transportation, conveying cargo, passengers, minerals, grains, and so forth. Railway ballasted track is a conventional railway track as can be seen all over the world. Ballast, located underneath the sleepers, is the most important elements on ballasted track, which has many functions and requires routine maintenance. Ballast needs to be maintained frequently to prevent rail buckling, settlement, misalignment so that ballast has to be modelled accurately. Continuum model was introduced to model granular material and was extended in ballast. However, ballast is a heterogeneous material with highly nonlinear behaviour. Hence, ballast could not be modelled accurately in continuum model due to the discontinuities nature and material degradation of ballast. Discrete element modelling (DEM) is proposed as an alternative approach that provides insight into constitutive model, realistic particle, and contact algorithm between each particle. DEM has been studied in many recent decades. However, there are limitations due to the high computational time and memory consumption, which cause the lack of using in high range. This paper presents a review of recent ballast modelling with benefits and drawbacks. Ballast particles are illustrated either circular, circular crump, spherical, spherical crump, super-quadric, polygonal and polyhedral. Moreover, the gaps and limitations of previous studies are also summarized. The outcome of this study will help the understanding into different ballast modelling and particle. The insight information can be used to improve ballast modelling and monitoring for condition-based track maintenance.

도시철도의 직류전력 공급을 위한 사이리스터를 사용한 병렬 듀얼 컨버터의 순차적 모드 전환 제어 알고리즘에 대한 연구 (A Studies for Sequential Mode Change Control Algorithm of the Parallel Dual Converter of Using Thyristor for Supplying the Urban Railway DC Power)

  • This paper is proposed control algorithm for the using thyristor of the parallel dual converter for Urban railway power supply in order to return the regenerative power generated by regenerative braking in urban railway train. Conventional control algorithm of Thyristor dual converter for urban railway power supply has voltage variation within a control range of hysteresis band. The purposed control algorithm of the parallel thyristor dual converter is to maintain a constant voltage without voltage variation in accordance with variable load through the Sequential mode change. And the control algorithm need calculating optimum initial firing angle to consider magnitude of the load current slope. For this purpose, Proposed algorithm for sequential conversion mode of the dual converter was verified by applying for the simulation.

A Study on the Cause Analysis of Human Error Accidents by Railway Job

  • Purpose: This study investigates human error accidents in the Korean railway sector, emphasizing the need for systematic management to prevent such incidents, which can have fatal consequences, especially in driving-related jobs. Research design, data and methodology: This paper analyzed data from the Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, examining 240 human error accidents that occurred over the last five years (2018-2022). The analysis focused on accidents in the driving, facility, electric, and control fields. Results: The findings indicate that the majority of human error accidents stem from negligence in confirmation checks, issues with work methods, and oversight in facility maintenance. In the driving field, errors such as signal check neglect and braking failures are prevalent, while in the facility and electric fields, the main issues are maintenance delays and neglect of safety measures. Conclusions: The paper concludes that human error accidents are complex and multifaceted, often resulting from a high workload on engineers and systemic issues within the railway system. Future research should delve into the causal relationships of these accidents and develop targeted prevention strategies through improved work processes, education, and training.

비상발전용 UPS 기능을 갖춘 도시철도용 복합형 전력저장시스템 개발 (Development of Hybrid Power Storage System for Urban Railway with UPS Function for Emergency Power Generation)

  • 도시철도 시설물의 경우, 대중교통의 특성상 전력공급이 차단되면 혼란이 발생하므로 통신설비, 방재설비 및 승차장 안전문 등이 안전한 승객의 이동을 위해 전원공급이 유지되어야 한다. 또한, 도시철도 운행노선에는 다수의 전동차가 운행 중이므로 운행 간격과 시설복구 시간을 고려하면 승차장 안전문은 최소 30분 이상, 통신설비 및 방재설비는 1시간 이상의 설비가동이 요구된다. 따라서 도시철도 구간의 역사나 차량화재발생 시 화재로 인한 추가확산을 막기 위해 주요전력이 차단되므로 유도등 및 배연설비의 안정적 동작 유지를 위해 비상 전원공급이 필수적이다. 최근에는 비상시 정전을 방지하는 UPS (uninterruptible power supply, 무정전 전원공급장치) 기능과 가격이 저렴한 야간 시간대에 전기를 저장하였다가 주간 피크시간대에 사용할 수 있도록 하여 전기요금을 절감해주는 ESS 기능을 합친 비상발전용 UPS 기능을 갖춘 복합형 전력저장시스템을 개발하는 추세이다.

도시철도내 지능형 객체인식 시스템 구성 및 설계 (A design and implementation of Intelligent object recognition system in urban railway)

  • 도시철도인 지하철은 대중교통 수단 중의 핵심이라고 할 수 있다. 도시 철도는 항상 많은 승객들이 이용하다 보니 도난, 범죄, 테러 등의 심각한 문제에 늘 노출되어 있다. 특히 도시철도 환경 특성상 감시 범위가 넓게 분산되어 있고 감시 대상 범위가 급증하고 있어 기존 CCTV와 같은 수동적인 감시만으로는 종합적인 관리가 어려운 상황이다. 본 논문에서는 도시철도내 지능형 객체인식 시스템을 구성, 설계 방법 및 객체 인식 알고리즘을 제안하고자 한다. 제안하고자 하는 객체 인식시스템은 역사내 카메라 영상을 분석하여 승강장 및 대합실에서 제한구역내 접근이나, 방치 혹은 일정 시간 이상 움직이지 않는 물체가 있는 경우를 위험 상황으로 인지하고 신속하게 대응 할 수 있도록 하고자 하였다. 제안된 알고리즘은 기존 Kalman 필터를 이용한 객체 인식율 84.62%에 비해 지정지역 감지에 대해서는 100%, 방치된 물체 감지는 최소 82% 이상, 움직임이 없는 물체 감지에서는 94% 이상의 감지율을 나타내어 실효성을 입증하였다.

  • 우리나라는 1990년대부터 도시공간구조 재배치와 지역 간 균형발전계획에 따라, 경전철, 모노레일, 자기부상열차, 간선급행버스 등 신교통수단 도입이 구체적으로 논의되어 왔고 일부는 건설 중에 있다. 그러나 경량전철 사업추진과정에서 일관성 있게 조율할 수 있는 전담기구역할이 부족하여 사업주체간에 심각한 혼선을 빗고 있으며, KDI 공공투자관리센터에서 시행하고 있는 예비타당성조사도 경제성(B/C)에만 비중을 두고 사업을 시행하고 있는 형편이다. 따라서 경량전철형식에 대한 적정성 연구가 필요함으로 도시별 유형과 특성에 맞는 효율적인 경량전철형식을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 서울과 경기도의 지역을 요인분석을 이용하여 6개 군집으로 분류하고 각 군집에 적합한 경량전철을 선정하기 위해 선호도 분석을 실시하였다.

  • Recently, there are environmental issues for sustainable transportation system to pursue the energy-efficient and environment-friendly public urban transit. These transportation system needs to offer demand-oriented high-quality service being on the same level with cab service for urban space. PRT(Personal Rapid Transit), small track-guided vehicle, is repeatedly mentioned as a possible alternative for the new urban public transportion system, but but there are not many researches on the operational optimal routing for PRT network. In this paper, the concept of PRT and general optimal routing methods are reviewed. And we suggest the optimal routing method for city-wide PRT network with multi-vehicles and stations, junctions and directional arcs. Futher research directions for PRT routing are presented.

  • The existing city which consists of the downtown in Korea has been built spontaneously, and it is in difficulties for the distribution problem and traffic congestion since undersupply of social facilities cannot afford to handle the increasing traffic demand. So the traffic facilities have been reinforced to increase the competitiveness of the city and solve the related problems. The need of a new transit system considering the transport capacity and environment-friendliness is emerging as revitalization of public transportation is needed for reduce of personal transportation. In case of local governments that the Self-Reliance Ratio of local finance is high, if they promote the business by tram transit low which period could be shorten, it can correspond the traffic policy and invigorate the introduction of the new traffic system.

  • In the past decades, complain about ground vibration and noise induced by pile driving has been quickly increased. Because of that, auger The role of train has expanded as mass transportation according to the increase of train passenger. The train operation personnel are more emphasis on the safety of train operation due to the increase of train's role. The reason is that the train transports many people daily. So, if there is natural disaster, such as earthquake, flood, high temperature, and so on, it will become disaster. Therefore, this paper introduces and proposes wayside detection system, which can be helpful for the safety assurance of train operation.
