Light-rail transit system has many characteristics of better accessibility. frequency service, low construction cost, reduced air pollution and medium-capacity public transport etc. Light rail transit system as a urban transportation system has been growing worldwide since the late 20th century. More than 300 cities around the world have light railway systems. Many medium-size cities in domestic site is planning the construction of light railway. This paper describes the development strategies for the light rail transit industry.

For many years Korean railway industry has experienced substantial growth based on foreign advanced technology. Recently some problems was clearly stated on effective management, practical use and transfer of the railway technology. This paper presents some results of the study on necessary requirements of the expert system for railway technology transfer. We propose a general plan to develop the expert system and the contents on railway technology transfer in the text of this article.

Green ocean is one of the main issues internationally. Most governments are leading the role in boosting the economy through creating new green market and establishing system of coping with increasing international environmental regulation. Green ocean, which is a solution for the environmental issue of global warming, is applied throughout the industry. Domestic transportation industry including railway is also developing technology for creating green ocean. Transportation must decrease energy consumption at running stages because it shows high environmental loads expecially on using stages during its life cycle. Therefore, There are some tries for developing technologies; new engine through alternative energies, hybrid and lightweight. Railway transportation can not be exception. it is intended for this paper to suggest the direction of manufacturing environmentally friendly railway vehicle through the global warming effect evaluation of several materials being applied to vehicle and comparison of the results.

본 연구에서는 철도산업의 효율성을 측정하는데 있어 내부요인인 운영기관의 생산활동 뿐만 아니라 구조개혁으로 인한 조직유형, 사회경제적 관점에서 통제 불가능한 환경요인 등이 철도산업 효율성을 결정짓는데 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 분석하였다. 우리나라를 비롯하여 1990년 이후 구조개혁이 활발히 진행된 유럽국가와 일본을 대상으로, 철도산업 효율성 측정에 적합한 DEA방법을 이용하여 1990년~2006년까지의 효율성 값을 구하였다. 그 결과 우리나라는 모든 연도에 걸쳐 상대적으로 효율적으로 추정되었고, 전반적으로 평가대상국들의 효율성이 시간이 지남에 따라 향상되었음을 나타내었다. 또한 효율성 결정요인을 분석하고자 DEA방법으로 추정된 효율성 값을 종속변수로 하고, 구조개혁으로 인한 조직유형, 사회경제적 환경요인을 독립변수로 한 Tobit 분석에서는 시설과 운영을 분리하는 수직적 분리와 화물과 여객을 분리하는 수평적 분리가 효율성에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 철도산업의 경쟁력 강화와 경영효율성을 제고하기 위한 구조개혁은 그 과정과 결과에 대한 신중한 검토 및 평가가 이루어져야 함을 시사하였다.

Since the railway passenger services have been recognized as important factor for success in railway, electrical energy consumption in railway station for high quality service has greatly increased. Furthermore, the number of the private railway station has gradually increased. Therefore, the operation conditions for railway power distribution system is dramatically changed in comparison with the past. So, this paper proposes the optimal construction method for railway power distribution system considering economical efficiency and the reliability of power supply to establish the railway power distribution system standard for the future railway industry.

Risk assessment of a railway system should be periodically conducted managing a large amount of accumulating accident/incident data and scenarios, which generally requires enormous time and efforts. Therefore, special information management system is essential for railway risk assessment, where data needed for decisions on managing the railway safety could be promptly supported. The objective of this study is to develop a railway accident analysis program for risk assessment. The program is application running on the web which links railway accident analysts throughout the railway industry to a central database. Data entered, together with associated code tables. is stored on MS-SQL database. The program uses the concepts of accident, safety events, causes, related factors(vehicle, person, infrastructure, tool/equipment), recommendations to bring together the various elements of railway accidents. The program will be useful in finding hazard conditions, accident scenarios, quantitatively assessing the risk, and providing pertinent risk measures, eventually serving to prevent railway accidents and reduce severities of railway accidents.

In this paper, the safety criteria and framework of railway software which is developing presently is examined. The software development capability and organization of railway company in korea are investigated through interview and are analyzed. Then the application plan for railway software safety criteria is deduced to apply criteria to railway industry effectively.

In this paper, I illustrate the situations and problems rail industry is faced with. The rail industry has been suffering deficiency in investment with low technical level. Lacks of strategic marketing plans and low competitiveness in the industry led to a small portion of modal share, estimated at 12.6% in 2001(person base). Recently, rail industry has caught up with the current flow of changes. For example, a prototype of Korea high speed train had been manufactured to be successfully tested on commercial track. And the amount of rail investment increased gradually. The rail industry of EU nations, America, Japan reveals good outcomes, which keeps the balance in the black thanks to growth of investment in rail and high technical level. I have come up with some ideas for improvement, which I believe will be helpful to lead the rail industry. First, I suggest the upbringing of rail industry and technology on a national level. Second, expanding the rail network with the rail modernization. Lastly, I think it is crucial to establish a law and institution before we advance into overseas markets.

The purpose of this study is to analyze human factors - stress, alcohol, fatigue - of the railway driver in domestic railway industry. This study proposes railway safety improvement of domestic railway by intensively comparing railway safety system overseas to reinforce domestic railway safety. Domestic railways well known the well-organized railway safety culture has brought up safety issues on their process of private management. With this process, also, domestic safety is requested by increasing sense of the safety for general public. This study expects Korean railways to become a well-organized that as removing insecure factors of domestic railway based on result comparing and analyzing the manual, factors and requirements of guideline for internal and external safety culture.
