  • This purpose of this paper is to perform the readhesion control algorithm of the urban railway traction. A study on readhesion control algorithm is done for the adhesion system. This system has all characteristics of the voltage source converter by a process ability to regenerate power. The traction motor is controlled by IGBT inverter. The test equipment composes traction motor, torque-meter, clutch, and a tubular type of interia mass.

  • In this paper, design considerations and manufacturing procedure of 200 class insulation system with polyimide(Kapton) main insulation and silicone resin VPI process on the traction motor thor EMU will be reviewed. The performance test and the long life evaluation test that prove stability and reliability of Insulation system for traction motor will also be introduced.

  • Generally, traction motors for railway vehicles are inferior to that of electric vehicle in terms of output density. Traction motors for railway vehicles are relatively free of spatial constraints than motors electric vehicles, but in terms of whole system efficiency, increasing output density of traction motor is helpful. In this paper, using Halbach magnet array structure, output density of traction motor for 40kW class tram was elevated. This paper introduce detailed design process of the Halbach magnet array structure applied model, and check the affects on output characteristics by parameters like rotor shape, airgap diameter and pole ratio. Also, electrical output characteristics were compared between typical SPMSM model and Halbach magnet array model, which has same output size.

  • The aerodynamic noise reduction of railway traction motor is required to satisfy new enhanced Korean noise regulations for a train. This paper is the study result on a noise reduction of a railway traction motor using Lattice Boltzmann Method(LBM). To verify the reliability of numerical analysis, the noise performance of the base model evaluated using LBM, and calculated result was compared with the experimental data. In addition, main noise sources were selected to design parameters through analyzing the flow field of the base model. Based on the noise sources analysis result, a design improvement model of traction motor for this study was derived to reduce the noise. The performance of a design improvement model was evaluated by applying a validated numerical scheme. As a result, it was confirmed that the noise was reduced due to the suppression of the internal turbulent flow components.

  • This paper deal with the design concept of traction motor for Bimodal low floor vehicles that are CNG(Compressed Natural Gas) hybrid bus and Fuel-cell bus. The design concept of the traction motor is studied in terms of electrical characteristics and mechanical construction. Finally, this paper introduces the characteristic of the traction motor for low floor vehicles which are applied in the world, and mentioned the detail design concept of traction motor.

  • Recently, as the feasibility study shows that trans-Korea railway and trans-continental railway are advantageous, interest in high speed railway system is increasing. Because railway vehicle is environment-friendly and safe compared with airplane and ship, its market-sharing increases gradually. Korean High Speed Train has been developed by KRRI for last 7 years to satisfy the need. Korean High Speed Train (350km/h), composed of 2 power cars, 2 motorized car and 3 trailer cars, has been developed and is under trial test. To verify the design requirements for the functions and traction performances of the train, KRRI (Korea Railroad Research Institute) decided to evaluate traction performances of the train during trial test. For this purpose, torque, velocity, voltage and current must be measured. KRRI has developed a measurement system that can measure vast and various signals effectively. In this paper, we introduce traction performances of Korean High Speed Train. The traction measurement items are focused on the verification of motor block performances.   • The researches on the direct drive system, which directly transfers axle load of the traction motor to wheels, have been developed as a next generation drive system in Japan and Europe. As a result of excluding couplings and gear units, the direct drive system has advantages on the bogie mount space to be smaller sized, lower noisy, more efficient and less weighted than the conventional drive system - indirect drive system. Since the simplification of the direct drive system design depends on the design of the traction motors, the researches on the direct drive system with focusing on the traction motors get started. The advantages/disadvantages of direct drive system, types, structures, cooling systems and interfaces of the traction motors are presented on this paper. Furthermore, the development of other countries on the electric equipments of the next generation railway vehicles are discussed and the necessity & requirement for developing new concepts of traction motors are assured.

  • The SRM (Switched Reluctance Motor) is composed of silicon steel plates where the rotor structure is simple and laminated without coil winding or permanent magnet, making it mechanically robust and its maintenance and repair excellent. Applying SRM as traction motor for railway vehicle is given consideration because of its ruggedness capability in severe loading condition and its compact structure. Optimal design of SRM is needed to reduce torque ripple to apply SRM for railway traction drive because SRM has high torque ripple. In this paper, switched reluctance motor with three different stator pole shapes is taken for magnetic analysis using 3d finite element method to apply SRM as traction drive for railway vehicle. It is observed that the model 3 added Tooth Tang Depth and Slot Round to stator shape gives the improved inductance and torque characteristic.

  • The Development of A.C. Induction Motor for Railway Rolling Stock. The traction motor is designed as 4-pole induction motor with self ventilation. The winding insulation is throughout of materials of class C. The rotor is designed as a squrrel rotor with copper bar and casting. The rotor speed is detected by means of a pulse generator. The newer tection motor have no casting(frame). Punched-in holes make up the air duct and transfer the heat losses in complete. Maximim motor rpm is higher due to rotor construction. New is the entry of water-cooled traction motors in urban, However the water cooling design in - unfortunately - not applicable in traction motor.

  • Cooling type of traction motor for EMU in domestic is mostly an open type. Its system is a cooling air entered through air inlet cool down a traction motor and an hot air by traction motor get out air outlet. It is easy to cool it down but hard to maintain it. To improve an ability of maintenance, a total enclosed type traction motor is already developed and used in abroad, not an opne type. So we developed a total enclosed type traction motor which will be used in domestic and abroad EMU. We tried to reduce a weight and a size compared with the abroad one. In contrast with open type traction motors which cool off inside of motors, total enclosed motors cool down by cooling exterior frame of motors. In this case, cooling fins or air fan blowing to the exterior of motors are applied. The total enclosed type traction motor developed by us have two housing to block the foreign substance into inner of a motor and have two cooling fan to easy to reduce a heat happened at a coil. In this paper, design of a cooling structure of the total enclosed traction motor developed twice and performance verification through test will be discussed.
