  • This study focused on the characteristics of railway station squares according to layout patterns, which provide transit and links between the station and town. The results were as follows: (1) The analysis examined the characteristics of the railway station to the location and types the proportion: civic center type (59.3%) and ground station (43.7%), and upper railroad station (40.6%). The spatial configurations of the railway station square were obtained: Traffic space and Environment space. (2) The railway station square space configurations was classified as 4 main layout types: Turn place type (PC), Circulation type (PI), Stop place type (PS-1), and Stop place type (PS-2) (3) The average size for each type of railway station square layout patterns of the Location was larger than the civic center type ($16,882.3m^2$) to suburbs type ($37,698.9m^2$). The average form for each type of a railway station square layout patterns of the Location was the civic center type (1.00:0.73) and suburb type (1.00:0.37).

  • Recently, various types of trains are being operated in the same railroad whose designated stop stations are not the same. In other words, each train does not stop at every station. This could cause the pass-through accidents in which a train passes a station where it is supposed to stop. Although the number of train accidents is on the decrease, this type of error is still an important problem to be resolved. It is true that the burdens of train drivers are growing because the number of high speed trains and non-stop stations is increasing in the current railway system. However, another major reason for this accident is that there is no prevention system for these errors in the current train control system although it is being constantly improved. The purpose of this study is to reinforce the train stop system with wireless communication equipment in order to decrease this type of accident and to maximize the safety of railway transportation.

  • This paper proposes an analytical methodology of station capacity calculation on high - speed railway. Our method explicitly takes into account the effect of the number of sidings and the combination of train halting patterns (stop - stop, pass - stop, stop - pass, pass - pass) on the capacity of a station. To verify the reliability of our model, we conducted capacity analysis of selected stations using the Railsys simulator. We found that the difference in calculated capacity between our model and Railsys was less than 10%. After Monte Carlo simulation, our model was determined to be a good one. In addition, the consistency in capacity between our model and the train-path allocation program (Korea Rail Network Authority) was statistically significant.

  • The station area development planed to improve the old and narrowed station and to enhance the train passenger's convenience through private capital attraction in the past. But it has been faced with difficulty for the creative of transfer demand. Because of lean upon building facilities were caused by shortage of business profitability as to development of the upside a railway line, and lack of public utilities. The station area development requires that it's trend to large scale development of station areas, korail's direct development, deputation of specialty company to development, collaboration between local government and korail in development, diversification of process & installed facility, building multi-transfer center and one-stop transfer system. This trend caused by low profitability in development of the upside a railway line. The purposes of study are to make the system and law reflected to the property of station area development, investment in kind of needed land, and change railroad areas to high-rise and complex development, and make a forum between government and korail, etc.

  • A station is the place for the passenger who load the baggage or for bus, taxi, train to stop regularly. For example, bus stop which is installed on many areas for bus as a public transportation provides some space to the passenger who waits for getting on the bus. The bus stop built up recently carries on many kinds of function to make the passenger convenient different from the conventional simple bus stop. Smart station for Bimodal Tram combined with ITS(Intelligent Transportation System) technology has the advantages of both new and conventional stations. This paper has investigated the function and role of newly developed smart station which is able to be adaptive to the rapid variation of road station.

  • This paper is mainly concerned with the characteristics of precision stop on the automatic operating for the train car. Recently, the automatic operation of train car and the PSD establishment inside the subway are magnified. Consequently, the importance and necessity of characteristic of train car precision position stop are augmented. It researches the characteristic of precision position stop when the train car is operated with automatically and plans the safe operation of train car and the method of maintenance which is rational.

  • The purposes of this primary study are the selection of rail station and train operation management techniques for express-rail operation service at the convectional railway electrification. For these analyses, we used the KNR statistics and KROIS data of rail stations and train users by rail line. Therefore, we chose the important stations for express-rail operation of Kyongbu conventional rail line (esp. Seoul-Jochiwon section) through the rail transportation demand. and then, suggested primary operational management plan thorough the effects analyses of decreasing total travel time and increasing transportation demand by train speed-up. This study has some bounds and limits for proceeding, as it does, we excluded as followings: the conditionals of fate system, headways and train diagram, economic/financial analysis and technological assessment, and other railway technological infrastructures and a certain railcar specification, etc. . We propose to enlarge this study into a feasibility study of express or skip-stop operation service and compatible vehicle system decision considering with the best possible investment rail line, furthermore. in front of Kyongbu (Seoul-Busan) high-speed rail open in 2004, we have to try to progress the efficiencies of railway operation applying various train operation management plan.

  • TPS (Train Performance Simulation) based on ATO (Automatic Train Operation) is required for driverless LRT (Light Rail Transit) operation plan instead of typical TPS based on driver operation. In this paper, new TPS model using ATO pattern is proposed and compared with the automatic train operation result in a test line of Seoul Metro Line 6 and in a whole line of Busan-Gimhae LRT. The actual ATO pattern can be very accurately simulated by new TPS model with the introduction of 4 parameters such as commercial braking rate, jerk, station stop profile and grade converted distance. The commercial scheduled time for driverless automatic train operation can be proposed to have "Fast" mode TPS trip time plus 3 seconds/km margin recommended by Korean standard LRT specification in this paper.

  • Unlike domestic railway transportation system in which majority of station are equipped with gate access controller and ticket office, it has been a very common practice in overseas railway transit or railway station that they use a pressure door mat, infrared-sensors or CCTV cameras so as to automatically determine the number of passenger onboard and alight and to reflect the information to their business (i.e., deployment of vehicles and human resources). The data collected by the automatic passenger counting (APC) system provides methods how to obtain the information about the number of passenger using the vehicles on the basis of date, time and stop(station) which enables large-scaled transit company to create profits through effective vehicle deployment and management of their employees. This paper addresses the basic features of the automatic passenger counting system using infrared sensor and describes those of the extended APC system in conjunction with wireless technologies such as GPS, WLAN or Cellular network.

  • Currently, dozens of CCTVs are widely used in railway station for monitoring passengers in danger and security areas. The most frequent accidents occur at the platform area where passengers boarding the train. However, It is almost impossible that station operator monitors dozens of CCTV screens and recognizes immediately accidents and handle them. Therefore, railway platform monitoring system using image processing technology which automatically detects platform accidents is needed, and in order to that, preferentially, accurate determination of train state in the platform is required. In the paper, we propose train state detection algorithm for vision based railway platform monitoring system. the proposed algorithm determines four different states i.e. trains approach(IN), departure(OUT), stop(ON), and empty(OFF) of the train, in the platform. To evaluate the proposed algorithm, we present the train detection results for the Seoul Metro Line 4 Dongjak and Namtaeryeong Station.
