Development of VE/LCC Evaluation Model for Railway Route Selection (최적 철도 노선 선정을 위한 VE/LCC 평가 모델 개발)

  • Optimal route selection of railway should take consideration of the function of the railway, topography, practicability of construction and management as well as the cost. This study performed the surveys for experts and surrounding industries and the review for the bid guidelines in order to develop the quality model with the AHP method and establish the weight for each factor. Six quality models were developed for such as the efficiency of railway operation, structure design and practicability, economic feasibility, correspondence with other plans, civil appeal and environmental sustainability, and correspondence with system. The detailed evaluation elements were also derived by each factors.

  • The alignment design is one of the most influencing elements in earth work for the railway design. The amount of earth work mostly depends on the route, and the construction cost for railway construction largely depends on it. For this reason. it is necessary to develop a program for the construction cost estimation by route alternatives. This study introduces a program for the estimation of the earth work amount including the logics and the way to use.

  • Recently remote sensing technology is applied for construction projects planning and design areas by use of high resolution satellite images according to engineering application technology in the various experimental tasks. In this study, It was applied for optimum route selection methods and basic design by comparing to present railway and new expand dual railway route on the new construction plan path of 20 km at national railway lines, and then showed 3-dimensional images and fly simulation images to possibility for various application as low cost and short time compare to airplane and helicopters survey methods. As a results of its applied, It gained the results not only improvement of present methods but also real various application possibilities.

  • The energy efficiency and environment-friendly aspect of the railway system would be superior to other on-land ransportation systems. In a preliminary feasibility study stage and selection of optimal railway route, the energy efficiency and problems related to environment are usually considered. For the selection of optimal railway route, geographical features and facility of management are generally considered. Environment effect factors for the selection of environment-friendly railway router are focused and studied in this paper. In this study, various analysis of opinion of specialists (railway, environment, transport, urban planning, survey) and the guideline for construction of environment-friendly railway were accomplished. From these results of various analysis, 7 major categories (topography/geology, flora and fauna, Nature Property, air quality, water quality, noise/vibration, visual impact/cultural assets) were extracted. To select environment friendly railway route, many alternatives should be compared optimal route must be selected by a comprehensive assessment considering these 7 categories. To solve this problem, the selected method was AHP which simplifies the complex problems utilizing hierarchy, quantifying qualitative problems through 1:1 comparison, and extracting objective conclusions by maintaining consistency. As a result, a GUIbased program was developed which provides basic values of weighted parameters of each category defined by specialists, and a quantification of detailed assessment guidelines to ensures consistency.

In this study, it was applied for 3 dimensional terrain analysis and basic design by comparing with present railway and newly expanded double-tract railway route of forest sites on the new construction site of 15km at national railway lines, and then showed 3-D perspective images and fly simulation images to examine possibility of various application as terrain analysis modeling and running simulation at the corresponding course. As a result of its application, it gained the results not only improvement of present methods but also real various application possibilities.

  • This paper proposes an expert system which can determine automatically the shunting routes corresponding to the given shunting works by considering totally the train operating environments in the station. The expert system proposes the multiple shunting routes with priority of selection based on heuristic search strategy. Accordingly, system operator can select a shunting route with the safety and efficiency among the those shunting routes. The expert system consists of a main inference engine and a sub inference engine. The main inference engine determines the shunting routes with selection priority using the segment routes obtained from the sub inference engine. The heuristic rules are extracted from operating knowledges of the veteran route operator and station topology. It is implemented in C computer language for the purpose of the implementation of the inference engine using the dynamic memory allocation technique. And, the validity of the builted expert system is proved by a test case for the model station.

  • To maintain the stability during the operation of railway vehicle, the perfect installation of rail, namely the orbit as well as the performance of the railway vehicle itself is required. The orbit of railway needs the intensity and elasticity that stands the shock and vibration due to the weight of the railway vehicle enough, Also, the driving safety during the operation of vehicle should be guaranteed, comfortable feeling of the passenger should be maintained, and the influence of the noise and vibration to the environs should be minimized. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a program that calculates the change of construction cost according to the selection of railway orbit. This study introduces the orbit design automation program according to the selection of railway orbit, and discuss the principle and the way to use of the program.
