Investigation of the Dynamic Properties of Railway Tracks using a Model for Calculation of Generation of Wheel/Rail Noise

  • For optimization of a low-noise track system, rail vibration and noise radiation needs to be investigated. The main influencing parameters for the noise radiation and the quantitative results of every track system can be obtained using a calculation model of generation and radiation of railway noise. This kind of model includes contact modeling and the calculation model of the dynamic properties of the wheel and the rail. This study used a nonlinear wheel/rail interaction model in the time domain to investigate the excitation of the rolling noise. Wheel/rail response is determined by time integrating Green's function of the rail together with force impulses from the wheel/rail contact. This model and the results of the study can be used for supporting calculation with the conventional model by an addition of the contributions due to nonlinearities to the roughness spectrum.

  • Railway construction in the random vibration natural phenomena, as well as a relatively regular train loads for dynamic loads, such as a usability and safety should be ensured. Vibration due to train loads and seismic vibrations caused by wind compared to the typically very small in size, rather than the safety of the structure affects the usability. Recently in the downtown area, ground and underground facilities, such as a permanent facility that may cause excessive vibration increases, associated with the construction of these transportation facilities on ground vibrations of structures has been increasing concern and complaint. More recently, high-speed train vibration and noise due to furnace is increasing. In order to solve this problem, such as soundproof considering several feet, but by applying the vibration and noise reduction measures insufficient for the study is Free. In this study, track structure, track, and the inside of the building to support the system, the different forms of neurological history and share about the history cheonanahsan high-speed rail, if passed by the bus stop on the train loads of noise, and the history of interior noise and vibration measurement / analysis of measurement results to assess the relative comparison with the relevant provisions were reviewed. Based on this history, future plans for the design of the bridge to reflect the results of a study is intended to provide information. Waiting for the analysis of vibration and noise reduction, cheonanahsan history passed quietly in the train, on average, appeared to 67.53dB and 65.41dB nervous week on average, were measured with the history.   • To improve the riding comfort and to increase the speed of high-speed railway, it needs active suspension system for railway more and more. In Korea, Korean Train Express (KTX) was opened to commercial traffic 3years ago. Korea High-speed Railway (HSR 350x) was developed and succeeded 350km/h test run by Korean government and several related institute. With the increase of the speed, the vibration control of the high-speed railway becomes important to improve high ride quality. To meet this request, the authors suggest the installation of lateral semi-active damper to the power car of HSR 350x. The result shows better performance.

  • In this paper, the vibration of high speed trains and the irregularity of railway are examined using a wavelet-based frequency response function. To investigate their characteristics, non-stationary acceleration data are acquired and processed using the wavelet transform. Also, the railway irregularity is examined by acquiring the data from the on-board laser-based measurement system. The correlation between the train vibration and the railway irregularity has been investigated. From the analysis, the wavelet-based frequency response function is a promised method for the dynamic characteristics of high speed trains.

  • Brake noise has been one of the most difficult concerns in the automotive industry. Although substantial research has been conducted to predict and eliminate brake noise, there is yet no method to completely suppress brake noise. Furthermore, little effort has been made to improve noise and vibration characteristics of the railway brake system. The amount of sound energy radiated from the railway brake system is much larger than that from the automobile, and it causes discomfort of passengers in the station. In this paper, noise and vibration caused by the braking force of the KTX vehicle have been measured and analysed. Results show that noise level increases abruptly right before a train comes to a complete stop. Furthermore, typical characteristics of the disk brake squeal have been observed.

소음/진동을 고려한 철도 감속기 개발에 대한 연구 (A Study on Development of Railway Reducer for Low Noise/Vibration)

  • A dynamic model of railway reducer is developed by the lumped parameter method. The model accounts for shafts, bearings flexibilities, gyroscopic effects and the force couplings among the transverse and torsion motions due to gearing. Vibration/noise analysis as well as strength of gear teeth, and bearing life are considered. Excitation forces of railway reduction are considered as the mass unbalance of the rotors, misalignment and a function of gear transmission error which comes from the modified tooth surface. A campbell diagram, in which the excitation sources caused by the mass unbalance of the rotors, misalignment and the transmitted errors of the gearing are considered, shows that, at the operating speed, there are not the critical speed. The program which can be used to analyze and predict vibration/noise characteristics by mass unbalance, misalignment and gear transmission error of railway reduction is developed with this system model.

  • The maximum speed is one of the most important performance in high speed railway vehicle. The higher the train speed is, the worse the ride comfort is, In order to solve this problem, a semi-active or active suspension can be applied to high speed railway vehicle. The variable damper with hydraulic solenoid valve is used in the semi-active suspension. But the variable damper with hydraulic solenoid valve requires tank for supplying fluid. The MR(Magneto Rheological) damper can be considered instead of hydraulic variable damper which needs additional device, i.e. reserver tank for fluid. In the case of active suspension, hydraulic actuator or electro-mechanical one is used to suppress the carbody vibration in railway vehicle. In this study the MR damper and electro-mechanical actuator was considered in secondary suspension system of high speed railway vehicle. The dynamic analysis was performed by using 10-DOF dynamic equations of railway vehicle. The performance of the semi-active suspension and active suspension system were reviewed by using MATLAB/Simulink S/W. The vibration suppression effect of semi-active and active suspension system were investigated experimentally by using 1/5-scaled railway vehicle model.

Prediction and analysis of structural noise of a box girder using hybrid FE-SEA method

  • With the rapid development of rail transit, rail transit noise needs to be paid more and more attention. In order to accurately and effectively analyze the characteristics of low-frequency noise, a prediction model of vibration of box girder was established based on the hybrid FE-SEA method. When the train speed is 140 km/h, 200 km/h and 250 km/h, the vibration and noise of the box girder induced by the vertical wheel-rail interaction in the frequency range of 20-500 Hz are analyzed. Detailed analysis of the energy level, sound pressure contribution, modal analysis and vibration loss power of each slab at the operating speed of 140 km /h. The results show that: (1) When the train runs at a speed of 140km/h, the roof contributes more to the sound pressure at the far sound field point. Analyzing the frequency range from 20 to 500 Hz: The top plate plays a very important role in controlling sound pressure, contributing up to 70% of the sound pressure at peak frequencies. (2) When the train is traveling at various speeds, the maximum amplitude of structural vibration and noise generated by the viaduct occurs at 50 Hz. The vibration acceleration of the box beam at the far field point and near field point is mainly concentrated in the frequency range of 31.5-100 Hz, which is consistent with the dominant frequency band of wheel-rail force. Therefore, the main frequency of reducing the vibration and noise of the box beam is 31.5-100 Hz. 고속전철의 실내소음특성에 관한 연구현황분석 (State-of-the-Art on the Indoor-Noise Characteristics of High Speed Train)

  • A high speed train named Korean High Speed Train (KHST) with its maximum operating speed 350 km/h is now under development. For the successful design of a quiet and comfortable high speed train, it is important to understand the general features of the noise and vibration characteristics of high speed train. This paper reviews extensively collected materials on the noise and vibration characteristics of existing high speed trains. Based on the noise and vibration characteristics of TGV systems, a simple indoor-noise prediction rule is proposed for the TGV-type high speed trains such as KHST The indoor-noise of KHST at 350km/h is expected to be larger than at least 71 dBA. Some important researches conducted for designing KHST during last two years under the G-7 project are also briefly introduced at the last part of this paper.
